Herman Cain Comes Unglued In Crazed Sexual Harassment Email Rant
In an email rant sent out to reporters today, Herman Cain responded to mounting sexual harassment allegations by flipping out and calling sexual harassment nonsense, and accusing the media of trying to set him up.
Cain began his statement by writing, “It’s easy to make accusations when, by virtue of your anonymity, you don’t have to be held accountable for the claims you’re making. It’s easy to publish them when, like Politico, you don’t follow basic rules of journalism by naming your sources or giving any details whatsoever about what supposedly happened.” Media obsessed with nonsense; the voters and I are not I am a serious person, seeking the opportunity to do a serious and very important job. Our nation has very serious problems, particularly of an economic nature, and Barack Obama does not have the skill, knowledge or will to solve them. (Hint: If you have to tell people that you are a serious person, that’s a battle you’ve already lost).
Later, Cain played to GOP primary voters by attacking the media, “Unfortunately, the media-driven process by which one must seek this opportunity is fundamentally unserious. I have touched on this before – the emphasis on “gaffes,” gotcha questions and time devoted to trivial nonsense – and everyone knows the process only became further detached from relevance this week as the media published anonymous, ancient, vague personal allegations against me. Once this kind of nonsense starts, the media’s rules say you have to act in a certain way. I am well aware of these rules. And I refuse to play by them.” (The rule that Herb seems to object to most is that sexual harassment is not ok).
Cain also claimed that his poll numbers are just fine, “Another reason I refuse to play by these rules is that, by doing it my way, I’m getting much better results. My fundraising has skyrocketed since all this nonsense began. Just this weekend, the Washington Post has come out with a new poll – taken since all this started – showing me in the lead nationally, with my numbers on the rise. The media may be obsessed with this business, but the voters are not. And I am not. (Cain might want to take a closer look Reuters/Ipsos poll that found that he has lost 9 points off of his GOP favorability rating in a week, and 53% of Republicans think the sexual harassment allegations are true). (Hint #2: It’s not you, Herman. They really don’t like Mitt).
He followed this up by claiming that Politico is out to get him, “So once the editors of Politico started looking for people who would make claims against me, their chances of finding a few takers were probably about 100 percent. These people will not give their names. The so-called “witnesses” who purportedly corroborated their stories also will not give their names. That’s about what you would expect when people are engaging in a “hatchet job,” as it’s been described by Joseph Fassler, who was chairman of the National Restaurant Association board when I was there. It’s easy to make accusations when, by virtue of your anonymity, you don’t have to be held accountable for the claims you’re making. It’s easy to publish them when, like Politico, you don’t follow basic rules of journalism by naming your sources or giving any details whatsoever about what supposedly happened.”
Herb blamed the media for his mishandling of the story, “When someone stops you on the street and hits you with an accusation like this, they subsequently write a story about the look in your eyes, and how many seconds it took you to speak some words in response. They go to “crisis management experts” who offer the usual sage wisdom about “getting all the information out” – as if you can get any “information” out (aside from telling them nothing happened, which they don’t want to hear) in response to allegations that are unsourced and nonspecific. Then, when you haven’t “calmed the firestorm” – if only because the people wielding the blow-torches have no intention of putting them out – more experts are put on the air to say this proves you are “not ready for prime time.” Maybe that would matter if I was trying out for the cast of Saturday Night Live. But this should be a slightly more serious undertaking than that.”
He closed by claiming once again that only the media cares about this story, “If the media want to continue talking about nonsense, that’s fine. I’m not going to join them. It doesn’t look like the citizenry plans to join them either.”
All you really need to know about Herman Cain is that he considers sexual harassment nonsense. While trying to defend himself, Cain actually confirmed what the allegations suggest about his attitude towards women.
What Cain is trying to here is play the victim, but it is unbelievable that a presidential campaign would put out such a sloppy half deranged email rant as their defense. It isn’t like the editors of Politico went out and dug this story up. They had it handed to them, and if they wouldn’t have found it now, another outlet would have certainly uncovered it later. What decade does Herman Cain think he is living in? Did he really believe that he could get away with a pattern of sexual harassment?
It is funny that Cain would blame the media, because it was the media who created him. When the media deemed Cain’s win in a meaningless Florida straw poll significant, and gave him oodles of free airtime on national television, his campaign took off. Cain would still be a second tier candidate without the weeks of Sunday morning talk show appearances.
Herman Cain may have gone to Sarah Palin School of Lamestream Media Self-Victimization, but he is no Palin. Cain’s email was designed to stop the bleeding among Republicans, but even if he does survive, he will now be even easier pickings for Obama.
The truth is that instead of painting a comprehensive defense, Herman Cain’s email made him look paranoid, crazy, and guilty, which in the eyes of many GOP primary voters makes him the perfect candidate. However, the rest of America just witnessed the wheels fall off the Herman Cain 9-9-9 Express.

Herman Cain is demonstrably NOT a serious candidate for President, from quoting as “a famous poet” the lyrics to the theme song of the Pokemon movie, to basing his tax plan on a videogame, to having no knowledge of the most basic elements of foreign and domestic policy, it is clear that — as Rachel Maddow put it — Herman Cain’s so-called “candidacy” is actually a brilliant work of satirical PERFORMANCE ART.

Looks like his “meme” is officially wrong now that his accuser not only has a face, but has told her story on camera. This loon is a serial harasser – who’s gotten by because people got bought off. No one starts doing this at his age – he’s a pro at it.
He’ll say it’s racism – I say he’s a filthy male chauvenist pig. Color doesn’t matter, morals and ethics do.
He’s got a BIG problem now – and she’s willing to go public, she’s a Republican and she’s white. No man should ever be able to get away with what he did to her. I admire her for speaking out. She is going to be extremely difficult for him to try and smear – and he will try and smear her.
I hope Mrs. Cain has a good divorce lawyer – but she obviously made her deal with the devil over 10 years ago.

Herman Cain is a very dangerous man. Even with this damage, the Koch bros & their minions are still trying to avoid the inevitable. They are incessantly pushing him on their media outlets.
They are terrified of a Paul presidency & are doing anything they can to try to put ANYONE in the top tier position, when, in reality, Ron Paul is the head of the pack. The lying MSM goes along with this farce.
Obama has turned out to be a MONUMENTAL disappointment. He will never win a second term. His own base, for the most part, are totally disgusted with his continuation of bush’s warmongering, “israel” firster, polluting, 1% enabling policies. No true Liberal could possibly support him.
What does this leave us faced with? A Herman Cain, or a Slick Rick Perry, Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich???? I mean really, God help us all if we don’t wake up & elect the ONLY candidate that cares a whit about us. Either Ron Paul, or the so-called dems need to run Nader or Kucinich. Without one of these 3 men, we will lose all hope for our country.
I wonder if it isn’t already too late.

You haven’t read the Murdoch owned WSJ today, have you? The WSJ shows President Obama beating ALL of the GOP candidates, annnnnd, Mark Halperin reported today that President Obama is UP in the polls to 49%, and that he beats all of the GOP candidates. Furthermore, TPM reported today that the majority of Americans blame GW Bush and the republicans for the bad economy more than they blame President Obama. I know, I know, it sucks to back a pack of know nothings, but them’s the breaks when you choose people who are against what the majority of the American people want: more income equality, the preservation of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, an end to subsidies for Big Oil and Big Business, and the regulation of Wall St, among other things.

It never fails to amaze me to see how some people are so thoroughly trapped in the false paradigm of us against them. Dem, repub, not a wit of difference between the two. Two sides of the same coin, two piles of the same shit.
Why don’t you see that the Koch bros are making scads of money by manipulating the so-called mainstream?
Don’t you see that Obomber is a puppet & the Koch’s & their ilk are the puppet masters? They are the true welfare queens in our country.
They reap enormous riches by keeping us all distracted with this nonsense while they have Obomber, bush, clinton, bush 1, raygun, nixon, LBJ, even carter, to a point, along with a bought & paid for congress, doing their bidding, making & pushing policy, to allow them to fleece us through war, big oil, agriterrorists, big pharma, insurance cos. & banking.
How could any so-called liberal, support such an obvious warmonger, as Obomber is. He has NEVER denied this, either. People chose to believe he was something he isn’t. He was always pro-war. Go back & listen to what he actually said during his campaign. This is the reason I could not support him & it is why I still can’t support him.
You sneer & dismiss the only anti-war candidate in the room? What the hell is wrong with you people?
I read some of these comments about Ron Paul & it is obvious that those, saying these things, have never listened to RP or read RP’s issues page. He is the only one talking about corporatism, who the true welfare leeches are, what the banking system does to the poor, the middle class, how we have lost so much of our Liberty.
He voted AGAINST the unPatriot Act, AGAINST the wars, he has a 30 year record that proves who he really champions. He is not a rank & file so-called repub. He adhers to our Constitution. He has been tirelessly fighting for us for years. And you guys think you can just dismiss him out of hand, without knowing anything about him or his stands on issues. You lap up the lies being spoonfed to you, never considering that maybe you should take the time to find out for yourself.
A sad commentary on the state of the union. You guys (maybe not all of you, but many) are no better than these idiots who flock, like sheep, to any “repub” that Glenn Beck or Rush Limpballs tells them to.
God help the USA.

Consistent with Ron Paul supporters, this contributor has no interest at all in facts. Something about this strange and bizarre, anti-American candidate takes them back to their childhood, playing cowboys and indians with toy guns and feeling their budding manhood in a world where illness and old age and dominance by people who do NOT want them to succeed didn’t exist. It’s a childlike politic; the problem is, there are so many childlike adults who can vote.

It also might behoove you to check the voting record of the man. It would behoove you to listen to what he actually says about these things. It would also behoove you to check out Gary Johnson, for those who want to harp on Dr. Paul’s age, which I find to be stupid. It is obvious that the man has all his marbles, is very healthy & vital. He has more energy than I do, that’s for sure. BTW, I am studying the constitution. I do not profess to be an expert on it, but I do know a little something about it. Maybe you should crack the books as well, no? It just may change your mind.

Frankly, the only person I would truly trust right now would be Bernie Sanders, with Kucinich second.
I know that President Obama has relied too much on drones, but he IS ending the Iraq invasion at last. He wanted to close Gitmo,. who blocked that? He wanted out of Afghanistan right after HE got Bin Laden, who blocked that? Because of the war-mongering GOP, no true anti-war candidate will ever be elected. They put fear in every sentence when someone is for peace. They hail Israel, which kills Palestinian kids every day. The only true Christina President we have ever elected was Carter, a Democrat, and he is skewered by both sides. I loved him. I thought the world had a chance at peace when a true man of God was POTUS. But the GOP doesn’t want peace. They want the poor off fighting wars, feeding their donors, and who cares if the boys and girls return? The GOP won’t create any jobs for them anyway….they just turned down the jobs bill AGAIN. The GOP deserves nothing in 2012 but disdain….if we don’t vote them out, we are probably a doomed nation.
Tori
Nov. 9th, 2011 at 12:35 pm
Yeah, I have alot of respect for Carter, although, he disappointed me with a couple things.
I remember how presidential he was when he appeared on tv wearing a sweater, while turning the heat down in the WH. I remember him giving tremendously generous WIC benefits & then going on national tv & encouraging people to share with their neighbors, whose children were too old to get WIC. Telling the country that anyone who qualified for these benefits, most likely lived in a poor neighborhood & the older kids in that neighborhood needed good food, as well.
Of course, Raygun destroyed WIC, lowered the benefit & opened it up for corrupt food. Our family will no longer even apply for WIC because the rules will not allow you to buy real food, only garbage from agriterrorists. Once again, the benefit of this welfare program goes to the big corps.
Look at the dept of ed. A tremendous boondoggle, that has seen our kids systemically dumbed down & bereft of critical thinking skills, all the while increased the pay & benefits for teachers who are not allowed to really teach. They are handed scripts filled with lies & deceptions to pollute our kids with. Meanwhile, the taxes for landowners have become a horrendous burden, while parents have virtually no say over what their children are exposed to. This is unsustainable. Sooner or later, our society will collapse & be thrust into a dark age. An unintended consequence, Carter never envisioned this.
While Carter meant well, what happened to the good he did, proves that a strong central gov. is too easily corrupted. This is why the founders were so opposed to a strong fed. They rightly believed that local was the best way to go. This is why they put strong states rights into the constitution.
Carter has walked the talk since leaving office. He is the most dignified ex-pres we ever had.
All that, being said, I must disagree with your assessment. It isn’t only the GOP that deserves disdain. Check out the actual voting records. Many, many dems need to be held to account. We must break out of this false paradigm of left vs right. It is destroying our nation, all the while the criminals are achieving their ends.
Read & study the constitution. Read & study the Iroquois constitution, which was the inspiration for our own.

Herman Cain reminds me so much of Clarence Thomas with his unconvincing playing of the victim role when both are victimizers. He must never have thought any of his dirty laundry would be exposed, which shows how arrogant and ignorant he is for running for president. Whether his campaign is serious or not, he has been irreparably damaged and it’s all his own doing from start to finish.
Deb G.
Nov. 8th, 2011 at 7:07 pm
I couldn’t believe how they tore into Anita Hill and you could tell how hesitant she was to air such dirty laundry. I also think the grand jury got off on her “details”.
You can bet if 4 have shown up, that number will only increase with his bold lying about it.

Nov. 9th, 2011 at 12:19 pm
Anita Hill was not even the one who brought up the issue. There were people who tried to derail Clarence Thomas’s appointment to the US Supreme Court and they were the ones who brought this to light. His railings about “high tech lynching” convinced enough people to allow his appointment, and since then he has been a dud. He lacks empathy for the underdog in any situation, but just like Cain, he is the GOP’s ideal of a black man. Of the 5 women we know about in connect with Cain, at least 2 are registered Republicans. Along with that information is the fact that many Democrats want Cain to get the nomination. They see him as easily beatable because he is ignorant, arrogant, and intellectually incurious. It evokes shades of Sarah Palin.

It is so clear that Herman Cain has “selective memory”, no respect for women, has changed his story numerous times, is arrogant, does not have the support of his wife (he speaks for her), and does not have the qualifications to be President. His blame to bring down Gov Perry (rock incident & blame game for release of this scandal, then backtracked the following day both times) and accuse numerous others speaks volumes!
