How Corporate Conservatives Have Lied To Us For 30 Years
Americans love to debate taxes, conservatives believe the government confiscates their money while liberals believe taxes are “dues” you pay to society. These dues are much like the ones you pay to a country club even though you never use the pool, sauna or tennis courts, you still pay the same amount.
A conservative doesn’t complain about paying $5-10K for his country club dues, even though he never uses those facilities, but he complains about taxes being used in our schools that he doesn’t use, our libraries or council on aging.
The lie that we hear every single election year is that the corporations are paying too much in taxes, that’s why the middle class is hurting and that is why our factories are closing. The liberals raised taxes to much on the businesses and they went off to greener pastures. Again that is the LIE they have sold us. Look at this picture and read this World Bank article.
This illustration shows that the effective tax rate, (the amount actually paid to the government) in the U.S.A is substantially LOWER than Italy, Japan, Brazil, CHINA, INDIA, Canada and Germany.
Notice my emphasis on China and India. Most of our jobs are leaving to Countries and the have a HIGHER effective tax rate.
So why do conservatives continually beat the drum on taxes? The answer is simple, if they actually told you the REAL reason they would NEVER get elected.
These companies that shipped American jobs overseas are looking for CHEAP labor. It’s not the taxes at all. The conservatives know this, but if they blamed the American people rather than taxes, there would be riots on the streets and you would never see another conservative elected to office.
More and more American companies are hiring overseas rather than here in the U.S.A., according to an AP report.
More than half of the 15,000 people that Caterpillar Inc. has hired this year(2010) were outside the U.S. UPS is also hiring at a faster clip overseas. For both companies, sales in international markets are growing at least twice as fast as domestically.
All but 4 percent of the top 500 U.S. corporations reported profits this year, and the stock market is close to its highest point since the 2008 financial meltdown.
The report focuses on emerging middle class markets in China, India and Brazil. As we have stated above, the effective tax rate in those Countries are higher than here in the U.S.A, yet the economy is moving and the American companies are hiring in those “high tax” countries. Obviously, the HIGH taxes had little to no effect on their hiring practices. The conservatives here, stateside have told us differently.
Essentially, THEY LIED! They knew all along what they were doing.
The conservatives have sold us down the river. They have covered up for their corporate friends, as they shipped our neighbors’ jobs overseas and placed blame on our government and the “taxes.”
The fact is, the American labor force makes too much money, our standard of living is too high. The companies that move overseas are looking to increase their profits at the expense of the American people.
I believe it’s time for a real “tea party” and dump the Corporate Tea overboard along with the conservatives who covered the backs as the corporations sold us out.

Its true that our current tea party is blinded by the corporates that run it, blinded to American job losses and many other things in our society by the promise that they are patriots to look the other way.
In 2000 I had to work in Mexico for a period of time for my company. The people you met there were from all over the world. Mercedes Benz and many other companys where there. Now, because the Mexican people want higher wages for working in the Car and supplier plants there, many of the jobs that we lost in the sucking sound are on their way to China. In Korea my girlfriends brother laments that Korean jobs are headed to China and India. The search for cheap labor is ever moving.
I do not believe we will work again until we are willing to take wages vastly below what people make now. Corporations moving out puts the pressure on us to do just that. Want jobs? Take a huge pay cut. And by the way, we will not be lowering the cost of our products.
Corporate profits will not fail, the peoples income will(and hass). Its all for short term gains. But what do the republicans get from it? This can and will be used against them in time. The only thing that can save them is that corporate money will actually be in power in the congress. And even they will be emasculated

What if we moved congress to China? If we outsourced them maybe they’d feel the pain and take a stand for manufacturing and labor here. LOL.
What slays me is the Party of USA! USA! USA! is the party behind the motive to move jobs overseas.

If only…..I still think the people who are working to repeal healthcare should give theirs up. We pay for that! It outrages me that they have the perks of unions and are against them. Talk about entitlement. STOP the welfare for congress. What’s good for us is good for them.

What makes you think that like Bush setting on Cheneys lap, that our congress is not setting on the laps of the Chinese? Why do you think all that work goes there? Just cause the republicans want it so?
Make it so Mr Christian! Or is that Mr Data
I feel ill.

“I do not believe we will work again until we are willing to take wages vastly below what people make now.”
You’re thinking inside a corporatist box. What if instead we refuse to sell a company’s products in this country unless they have a number of jobs here that reflects the revenue they want to make off us. We are still a ginormous retail market for companies, and we have a lot of commercial leverage that we don’t use.

As long as Americans sit by wringing their hands as Corporations reshape the world to their liking, they deserve eery ounce of pain they get. They MUST be penalized for their GREED, ARROGANCE & SELF-AGGRANDIZEMENT!
For every job they send to China and India, they must replace & replicate in the US – or pay the job’s compensation IN TAXES to the US government. The government, if it were honest, ethical and governed by the Rule of Law, would eliminate US tax benefits fo corproations with a PLURALITY of its jobs moved overseas. But again, Ameicans are too STUPID, GREEDY & DUMB to think th situation through! All they want is ‘To Pop another Cold One’!

Excellent article! If Democrats had possessed control of government for the past 50 years I don’t think we’d be having all these problems. The economy always prospered more under Democratic leadership (not simply due to Democrats but because of Republican willingness to actually work with Democrats), and the gap between rich and poor was always smaller.
The conservatives have lied to us and will continue to lie to us while they fill their pockets with loot. None of that is likely to change.

Mr. H.H., Americans are more concerned to get their kids to soccer games han they are to ensure voting machines & the Voting Process work correctly! They’re driven by Racism, Arrogance, Greed, Egotism & Self-aggrandizment rather than by a determination to protect their Constitution, Bill of Rights and Democracy with their LIVES! Today, CONGRESS, the COURTS and the GOVERNMNT are TOTALLY BOUGHT h Wealthist 5,000 Old White Men!
Their SOLE objective is to perpetuate hei WEALH, POWER & CONROL!

The jobs will come back – as soon as they get rid of the minimum wage.

Well, certainly not all of them. But they will play this out logistically. India and China’s economies are growing, many people are moving up the economic ladder and at some point they will all start demanding higher wages and better working conditions. These populations are so huge, that a revolt in such great numbers will be a force to be reckoned with. If job creation here stagnates, unemployment benefits are capped again, and the minimum wage can be gotten rid of, people here will be so desperate for any kind of work, that they’ll take anything and be grateful. I think this is one of the goals corporations are working toward.

You need to find you ‘Jammies’ and go to bed. The minnimum wage has had NOTHING to do with corporate jos and corporations leaving America. What has EVERYTHING to do with such is American RACISM, ARROGANCE, GREED, EGOTISM & SELF-AGGRANDIZEMENT – RAGES! Corporations are about making a profit for their investors – NOT A ‘QUALITY PRODUCT’!
They cruise the world to find the cheapest INPUTS that’ll poduce the greatest OUTPUTS (profits). If they were faced with penalties -wherever they went – for such ‘crusing, they’d stop it. The masters won’t change their behavior when and until the SLAVES FORCE THEM TOO!

An irony that would be hilarious if the consequences weren’t so dire is that the GOP are not the fiscal conservatives they like to claim they are. I love how they call Democrats “tax and spend” as if “borrow and spend” isn’t a big problem.

The financial crisis would neer have occured had the BOUGHT CONGRESS & BOUGHT GOVERNMENT implemented regs on the books to stop CDS from proliferating – and pu a host of BANKING & FINANCIAL INDUSTRY EXECUTIVE IN PRISON FOR COMMITING MYRIAD FELONS! Fraud is but the tip of the iceberg. Securities & RICO LAWS were & ARE CONSISTENTLY VIOLATED. COLLUSION, CONSPIACY, TAX EVASION, TAX FRAUD, BRIBRY, SELF ENRICHMENT all played a role in DESTROYING AMERICA.
Regularly Looting the US Treasury & Robbing Taxpayers didn’t help either.

Why do you label them conservatives when some of the biggest liberals/Democrats are guilty of the same thing? Even Nancy Pelosi herself has introduced legislation that directly helped her husbands business in Samoa. That is only one example, but just look at these liberals and the businesses they own or “silently” run and some of them are so arrogant and bold that they aren’t even paying the statutory taxes owed on the income they make? What do you call that? I think that most corporations make an obscene amount of money and profit no matter how conservative or liberal their political leanings are. That is why these CEO’s can commit crimes and still make out like bandits for God’s sakes! It’s a horrible social disease and it doesn’t matter what kind of tax laws are in place because they will still make their money one way or another. Let’s cut out the name calling and get down to the real problem here. Government is too big and they all have too much money to waste and spend on inappropriate programs and anything else they deem important. That is why both parents work now- because they have to! That is also the main reason for the sad state of affairs with our children and their values which seem to be decaying by the day and nobody really has anything to look forward to anymore. The rich do get richer and the poor are the ones working everyday trying to keep them living a ridiculously indulgent lifestyle that we can only witness on TV or the tabloids! The athletes and movie stars included! It’s obscene- and both sides are guilty in my book!

I’m no Nancy Pelosi fan, however, there’s more to the Samoa story. Not raising the minimun wage in Samoa may have helped her husband financially but doing so could have hurt the Samoan economy and put many people out of jobs.

1. This article is talking about there being higher tax rates in China. I think that would make sense considering China is communist.
2. I can tell from the tone of this article that the author is extremely unintelligent and overly angry. This is typical of many leading liberals and progressives from what I’ve seen. The author hints that a conservative is someone who is a member of a prestigious country club. It would be just as easy to denote any liberal is a welfare-collecting criminal. The author is clearly not trying to solve any problems here, he is just trying to stir up more anger and create an even huger gap between left and right in this country.
3. This article sort of confused me. Maybe just because I’m an idiot – I don’t know. It seemed like a poorly connected string of anger outburst. Nothing new – just the same type of hot-headed mindless anger as usual. If the author is trying to make the point that companies hire labor overseas because it is cheaper, I would polity like to tell him “no shit”. I’m not really sure who is arguing otherwise. What firm would not want to decrease its costs?
4. The paying taxes thing. Generally, I feel that regardless of price, people are okay with paying for something as long as they don’t feel ripped off. So when a working person sees so much of his/her hard earned money disappear with little to no return, he/she essentially feels ripped off and gets tired of paying useless taxes. The government is the most wasteful entity we know of. We should be weary about giving them our money. Unless the government gives us money, in which case, all the power to them I suppose??
