That’s why I’m unfriendly to our “Justice System” and think it should be called the INJUSTICE system. When you’ve got people like Rick Scott and others getting away with murder, while ordinary folk are punished severely for small things (sometimes just trying to survive)… there is no justice there.

I’ve seen it with business owners quite a few times… the courts automatically assume a “Good Businessman” is more honest than his employee, even in the face of evidence that he’s a crook.

I won’t get started about preachers and many of the churches…

The saddest part is the store owner did nothing the wall street crooks did and got prison time, and the guy who lied on his application recieved prison time, but Mitt lied on SEC and Ma. state filings and is maybe going to be president? Anyone else see a major flaw in our CRIMINAL justice system? I am not advocating cheating and lying, but as Mitt always says “sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander”.

Toxic shame… good term, and we know the reality of it well (Native Americans have been taught for generations that it’s shameful to be Indian, especially to those who can pass). Many of the elders and ancients have a really tough time admitting to their heritage because of toxic shame.

The dominionists are especially adept at using toxic shame… it’s a powerful, but evil manipulation and control tool (part of the reason memories of my dominionist days were suppressed for all those years was toxic shame).

This is classic toxic-shaming “The Other”; it is so embedded (like racism at an early age) within those who are raised in what I term as “social abuse/neglect”* environments that they have no consciousness when it comes to denying food to the poor; it is beyond sad…they can do no better than to say “I got my rice bowl, fook-yew”.

Toxic shame (according to volumes written by Bradshaw in the 80′s!)is…

…”the feeling of being flawed and diminished and never measuring up. Toxic shame feels much worse than guilt. With guilt, you’ve done something wrong; but you can repair that – you can do something about it. With toxic shame there’s something wrong with you and there’s nothing you can do about it; you are inadequate and defective.”

Education is really the only answer to this multi-generational problem, but, we see the evidence every where from the GOP who fights hard to make sure that this kind of education never happens…

*(I prefer the term “socially retarded” for those raised “under the bar” with intent as an accurate descriptor, but people get “scared”, knee jerk and, take it out of context)

I was just going to mention the Welfare Cadillac story myself. There is another angle to that, as I explained to one person who used to take that as gospel. (When I did, he changed his tune completely.)

The big cars were notorious gas guzzlers, and much more expensive to operate and maintain (one of the Lincolns of the period required removing something like 46 screws, and it was a major operation to just change a taillight bulb!). Thus, they were not very popular on the used car market and cheap… often dirt cheap. Poor people couldn’t afford anything better and so they’d be driving Lincolns and Cadillacs – which ate up more of their hard-earned cash. Like everything else when you’re poor, you’re stuck with the more expensive in the long run and less efficient options because anything decent costs too much up front.

(See the book “The Poor Pay More” – dated and from the 60s, but still quite valid in its description of the life of the poor.)
