Joe Biden Calls Bullshit on Bush’s Obama Nazi Comparison

ImageToday speaking before the Knesset in Israel, President Bush compared Barack Obama’s foreign policy to those who wished to appease the Nazis before World War II. This brought about a strong rebuttal from Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE).

Bush said, “some people" believe the United States "should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: 'Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is--the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

Biden called Bush’s comments bullshit, “This is bullshit, this is malarkey. This is outrageous, for the president of the United States to go to a foreign country, to sit in the Knesset . . . and make this kind of ridiculous statement. If he thinks this is appeasement, is he going to come back and fire his own cabinet?" Biden asked. "Is he going to fire Condi Rice?"

This only goes to show how desperate the Republicans are in their attempt to derail Barack Obama. They know they can’t run on the issues, so they have to resort to once again pulling out the deeply flawed comparison that the so called “war on terror” is just like World War II.

Now keeping in mind for a minute that according to President Bush we are at war with a tactic, while the Nazis were real, this attack launched by Bush was the exact same thing that the Republicans did to John Kerry in 2004. The major difference is that America was not as opposed to Bush and his policies four years ago.

This is Republican campaigning 101, and Biden is 100% right to call this exactly what it is. Republicans know that McCain’s only chance of winning is based on changing America’s perception of Barack Obama into a terrorist loving security risk. It is one thing to debate national security issues, but quite another to engage in outright lying. If President Bush wants to make this election about him, then we can start planning the Obama inaugural now.
