That is one massive, collective “WE.” Most of us couldn’t do anything about it. And really, we didn’t let bin Laden get away. George W. Bush did. If he’s going to claim credit for prosecuting the war on terror so well, and for preventing another attack, then he ought to stand up and own up to the fact that he completely took his eyes (and the nation’s attention) off the ball. By diverting us, our resources into a fruitless, pointless, selective war in Iraq, Bush let bin Laden slip right out of our collective consciousness and grasp.

Now, though none of the three men mentioned bin Laden by name, I do believe Obama said, “Let us remember that the terrorists responsible for 9/11 are still at large, and must be brought to justice.” That, at least, references bin Laden.

None of them mentioned Bin Laden for a reason, thats the same reason that Bin Laden is only listed on the FBI’s most wanted for an embassy bombing in Kenya, and not for 9/11. That reason is, that there is no hard evidence that Bin Laden was responsible for 9/11. The FBI have admitted as much.

If thats not enough to make you think, then lets not forget Bush tried to tie 9/11 to Saddam Hussein as well, and failed to make that stick. What makes anyone think that the assertation that Bin Laden was responsible was anymore accurate than trying to claim Saddam had links to Al Qaeda? Perhaps Bin Laden isn’t that important simply because its likely he wasn’t actually responsible? Just a thought.
