Five Reasons Why Joe Biden Was the Right Choice

ImageSome, mostly Hillary Clinton supporters, will argue that Joe Biden was not the best choice to be Barack Obama’s running mate, but below are five reasons why he was the best choice for the Obama ticket.

1). Biden is Neutral - Once he got out of the race, Joe Biden never endorsed Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. He was more concerned with supporting the Democratic Party, but since he never sided with either camp in the political civil war known as the primary, his selection eliminated the dilemma of selecting either an Obama supporter or a Clinton supporter. He is a choice that both camps can get behind.

2). Knowledge of Policy - I don’t think any other Democrat is more well rounded in terms of domestic and foreign policy than Joe Biden. Hillary Clinton is strong on domestic policy. Bill Richardson is strong on foreign policy. Joe Biden is strong on both. His foreign policy record will get all of the attention, but Biden also wrote the crime bill in the mid-1990’s that put 100,000 new policemen on the street. Biden is also outstanding on education and healthcare.

3). Limited Baggage - The problem that Obama faced in making his choice is that except for Biden the Democrats that are baggage free are boring, dull, Evan Bayh types. I am a firm believer that it was Bill Clinton and his shady presidential library fundraising, among other scandals that cost Mrs. Clinton the VP slot. Obama did not want the Clinton baggage, but finding a top tier running mate that has no baggage at all is tough. Biden’s biggest problem is his own mouth. Otherwise, he has a moving personal story, and fits the Obama mode as a good family man.

4). Energy and Passion - The negative attacks on him seem to have taken Obama a bit off his game lately. This has been a long campaign, and Obama looks like he could use a shot of energy. Nobody will argue more passionately on Barack Obama’s behalf than Joe Biden will. Biden is energetic passionate, and his oratorical gifts rival Obama’s. Biden may be a bit of a loose cannon, but as long as he is aimed at the Republicans, he will be a powerful weapon.

5). Presidential Ambitions - Joe Biden has wanted to be president for at least the last 20 years, but now at age 65, he seems to realize that the vice presidency would be a fine end to his political career. If Obama wins two terms, I don’t see a then 73 year old Biden running for president, which means that door will be wide open for the then 68 year old Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee. Because of his age, Biden will be able to campaign as the experienced advisor to Obama, which makes this is a win-win-win for Obama, Biden, and Clinton.

Well, I'm disappointed because Biden's a drug warrior.

That's really sad.

The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are "mere" continuations of the long history of American imperialism under the military, industrial and congressional complex. They will naturally draw to an end now that the profits have been reaped by all the contractor pigs sucking at the teats.

What I had hoped for from Obama was a real change. We need to stop using the US government to wage war against the American people. The drug war is a cancer that is eating America from the inside. Choosing Biden as a running mate makes me really wonder if it's worth voting for Obama at all.

The drug war is as moronic as the war on terror

The drug war is as moronic as the war on terrror. How can you wage war against a concept, strategy, or consumer product? I am not trying to tell anyone who to vote for. Both Nader and Barr are good options, but if your choice is between Obama and McCain, one needs to think long and hard about what America will look like after another 4 years of neo-con rule before they decided whether or not to vote.

Just curious

Do you think it will hurt that the Republicans will use Biden's words against him in the coming months? What I'm referring to: when Biden was still in the primaries he was easily the most critical of Obama's "lack of experience," and used that as reasoning for why Obama should not be president more than anyone else. I agree, he stayed neutral once he was eliminated--but unfortunately, that does nothing to erase the sound bites that exist.

I'm not saying that it will have any impact at all--I don't really know--just interested in opinions on the topic.

To respond to an earlier post: I've never really thought of Biden as a drug lord--that's a new one to me! In fact, on the issues he generally, with some exception, of course, seems like a good guy. There are some issues with how he handled the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings--issues that deserve scrutiny, but that he has offered explanations/apologies/rationale/etc. for--and, to be fair, as the original post points out, you'll never find a candidate with no skeletons in their closet at all.

Every opponent tries to create discord on a ticket

The Republicans will certainly try to use Biden's words against Obama. This is a tactic that is as old as the hills, but it never works. The most famous example of this is probably George H.W. Bush calling Ronald Reagan's economic plan voodoo economics during they 1980 Republican primary, but they went on to not only be on the same ticket, but controlled the White House for a combined 12 years.

reply to Just Curious

Ref Biden's words against Obama earlier on, people tend to forget that sometimes people say things about other people and then very well have the right to "change their mind" especially after getting to know that person and seeing what they are about. Plus Biden was running himself at that time, so of course, this would be a reply. The one statement Biden said against Obama is nothing compared to all those negative statements Hillary said about Obama. So the question to all here in comparieson would be, would Hillary have been a good mate for Obama with all those negative things she said. People don't remember that.Looking at all the right things about the Biden choice, I believe it was a very good decision.

Michael Moore would disagree

inre to Obama selecting Biden.

Further, Biden had better do something about his HAIR.

P.S. The "Drug War" will NEVER end

since there is SO much money being made by both "sides". It's a self-contained economy, not to mention the thousands of cops being kept on tap in the "War on Drugs" to keep an eye on/control the citizenry.

They have it all figured out; it's pretty g*ddamn obvious what's going on.

Biden

Biden cannot be a vp or president since he is not a fake. He is real and sincere and real and sincere people cannot be VPs or presidents. Look at the current and past world leaders.

Biden as runningmate: Mr. Anti-Change

Is there anyone who more represents Congress as it is and always has been?

Doesn't this turnabout in the initial Obama message hurt his base?

How many Democrtas have you met today who are disappointed? I am at over a dozen, eveyone at an open house this afternoon. I have yet to find anyone who's energized or excited by this selection...

Selection of Biden

As a native born Delawarean I suppose I should support Biden. It is evident that he was selected by the Democratic Party as the VP candidate because they realize they have selected a "pig in a poke" as their banner bearer for President. This selection serves to acknowledge that Obama is incompetent to be President of this country. To me this makes Biden Obama's baby sitter whose knowledge will lead the country. Kind of like Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy.

Biden is a good choice

Biden appears to be a very honest man. Obama needs at least one person on the ticket with integrity. Biden opposed Obama in major legislation, and was right. Biden knows Obama has no experience and doesn't deserve to be president, and has said so.

If Clinton was on the ticket some supporters would have voted for Obama. Now at least 20% or so, maybe twice that, won't. McCain will win and Clinton can run and win in 2012.

Thank you Obama.

Clinton in 2012, oh Please! Get real!!

Obama has pissed off HRC supporters who declare they will not vote for him and chose Mccain instead.....

Just what do you think the 19 million obama supporters are going to do in 2012 if he does not become President....FORGET?? Throw their support blindly behind HRC.... Wake up HRC supporters! What you do to Obama will come back and be visited upon you. An eye-for-an-eye!! WE WILL NOT FORGET!! It will be another cake-walk for a republician in 2012

Obama and Biden

Hurray Barack Obama has chosen a charismatic and experienced VP to win the White House. Hilary Clinton supporters should now get behind the ticket to ensure that the ageing McCain does not win and carry on with George W Bush's disastrous policies. The rest of the world is looking for change and hopes the American voters will do them a favour this time and elect Barack Obama. Please do not inflict GW Bush the second on us!

I am tired of the McCain and Clinton supporters complaining

I am tired of the complaining by the McCain and Clinton supporters. It is a bit of childish spin by the McCain people to say that by picking Biden Obama admitted that he isn't ready to be president. If Obama would have went with an inexperienced person, the McCain people would have bashed the ticket as inexperienced. I know the game that you are playing, and you may fool some, but not most.

As far as the blind Clinton zealots are concerned, the Clinton baggage would have doomed the ticket to defeat. Why would Obama want to attach himself to thenumerous Clinton scandals? The blind Clinton supporters may not be aware of this, but Hillary has a huge national negative number. Outside of the Democratic party she is distrusted and in some corners villified. Why would Obama choose a running mate that would energize Republicans?

Obama picked Biden because McCain's negative attacks about Obama's experience have worked. The funny thing is that the McCain supporters bash this pick, but George W. Bush did the same thing, which they supported in 2000, when he selected Dick Cheney. I didn't see any conservatives saying that this was an admission that Bush was not qualified to be president then, although because of Cheney, he turned out to be a terrible president.

Are you a Democrat test

Are you a Democrat test:

Would a Democrat vote for a man who voted against raising the minimum wage in, 1989, 1996, 1998, 2000, and 2006?

Would a Democrat vote to kill our bravest young people for 100 years looking for weapons of mass destruction that do not exist?

Would a Democrat vote for a man who does not know that 9-11 was caused by Osama Bin Laden not Sedam Hussein?

Would a Democrat vote the man who does not know if the Sunnis or Sheits are our enemies?

Would a Democrat vote for the man who voted against increasing benefits for the military that he sends in harm's way?

Would a Democrat vote to keep putting our government on the China, Saudi Arabia credit card?

Would a Democrat vote for tax cuts only for the wealthy?

Would a Democrat vote for opposition to SCHIP?

Would a Democrat vote for tax credits for health care instead of a nation health care system?

Would a Democrat vote to overturn Roe v. Wade?

Would a Democrat vote for a right-wing Supreme Court?

Would a Democrat vote for a third Bush term?

Would a Democrat vote for a man who says the economic downturn is psychological?

Would a Democrat vote for a man who says you are better off under George Bush?

Would a Democrat vote for a man who says irresponsible, undeserving homeowners are losing their homes? But is fortunate to own 8 homes!

Well done obama

Have you ever heard of a proverb refering to the pot calling the kettle black? You bet all the republicans and the clinton supporters haven't.They are too preocupied with witch-hunting to realise that the witch is in their own camps.
