McCain Forced to Reject Pastor’s Holy War Comments Against Obama

ImageOnce again, Republican presidential candidate John McCain has issued a statement rejecting the remarks of one of his supporters. This time Pastor Arnold Conrad said during the invocation that he delivered before McCain’s speech in Davenport, Iowa that other gods, including Allah, are praying for an Obama win.

According to Marc Ambinder, here is what Conrad said, “I also would also pray, Lord, that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their god--whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah--that his opponent wins, for a variety of reasons. And Lord, I pray that you will guard your own reputation, because they're going to think that their God is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you will step forward and honor your own name with all that happens between now and election day."

For the second time this week the McCain campaign had to issue a statement rejecting the comments of one of their supporters. McCain aide Wendy Reinmann said, "While we understand the important role that faith plays in informing the votes of Iowans, questions about the religious background of the candidates only serve to distract from the real questions in this race about Barack Obama's judgment, policies and readiness to lead as commander in chief."

Of course, Conrad was implying the other religions want Obama to win because he is the non-Christian candidate. Besides the fact that this so called man of faith completely lied about Obama’s religion, this is the kind of thing that happens when politics get preached from the pulpit. I also think that the Republican Party is now paying the price for letting the radical social conservative wing dominate. Comment’s like Conrad’s are common in evangelical circles, where political campaigns are viewed as a holy war, but many non evangelical or social conservatives voters find these kinds of remarks radical and frightening.

McCain started out this campaign by moving away from his maverick image and more to the right. I think that the Arab/terrorist slurs play into the views of the radical element of the GOP, but McCain has come to the conclusion that they are too far out there for him. The dilemma for McCain is that the evangelicals and social conservatives are the grass roots operation of the party. McCain and the evangelical right were always an incompatible fit, and what were are seeing now is a candidate who is on the verge of open war with part of his own party. What we are watching is the implosion of the Republican Party.

God does not choose sides

I am a professing Christian and the pastor's prayer shows either he's ignorant or he's an outright deceiver who was praying to, I don't know who.
All I know is just one thing that God abhors besides sin and that is hypocrisy. From the deception and lies that McCain-Palin have spouted, I'm curious to see who God actually favors to win. My prayer to Jesus Christ is that Obama wins. I hope others of the evangelical faith join me in this prayer

Damnation

Damnation awaits those who vote for Obama. The Christian god abhors abortion - the murder of those most innocent - and will surely those damn those who are complicit in it.

Be careful about using the word "damnation"

Jonolon" says "Damnation awaits those who vote for Obama. The Christian god abhors abortion - the murder of those most innocent - and will surely those [sic] damn those who are complicit in it."

First of all, Jonolon, you need to be very careful about speaking for God. Only God knows who he will damn and who he will let into Heaven. It's presumptuous on your part to think you are able to look into Obama's heart as God does.

Second, Obama doesn't like abortion. He is not as clear as you are - or as I am - about why it's wrong. But I am a pro-life Catholic and I am going to vote for Obama - for many reasons - but one of those reasons is that I believe there will be fewer abortions under his governance than there will be under McCains, because (just as was the case in the Clinton administration), there will be more supports for pregnant women that give them options other than abortion when there are unwanted pregnancies.

Third, I think Jesus cares a lot about the way we treat the poor. That's a pro-life issue also. And Republicans don't believe in the programs Democrats do to care for the poor and the most vulnerable among us. So I think it's the "Christian thing to do" to keep that in mind also.

Fourth, I believe that Obama will end the war, a war which does NOT fit into the "just war" category - which is a sin against the innocent there. War is a pro-life issue, too.

I'm sorry Obama doesn't support the end of capital punishment, which is another pro-life issue, but I hope under his administration it will be administered more fairly.

So your rhetoric doesn't befit a Christian, and as a fellow Christian, I admonish you to examine the beam in your own eye before judging the heart of a brother in Christ, because Obama is a Christian, and you are commiting the sin of calumny against him. That's another sin which can put a person in jeopardy of hell.

Go think about it, Jonolan.

God also abhors unnecessary

God also abhors unnecessary war killing innocent children and women, lies and dishonesty, crude talking like the type of jokes McCain likes to tell, adultery - running around on your wife while your disabled wife is home with your three children, favoring the wealthy over the poor and a lifelong attachment to gambling. Obama's calm and patient spirit and his graciousness even while being attacked, his attempt to stay on the issues rather than make unwarranted attacks on his opponents while they spue forth inuendos and lies I believe is honored by God.

Save Your Damnation,

Obama has not had an abortion. Save your damnation. Read your Bible and stop giving Christianity a Black eye.

are you saying god wil not forgive those who have had abortions

i just want to know if you think that having an abortion will keep a god fearing woman from going to heaven.

God Does Not Choose Sided

Actually God gives a nation leaders that mirror the heart of the people. America has turned her back on God by ignoring Biblical teachings such as the definition of marriage (between a man and a woman) and the current holocaust ( abortion) so guess who we will get for a leader?

This makes no sense...

I am considered a good American citizen by all standards. I pay my taxes. I work full time but I also volunteer at least 4 hours a week at a local rehab clinic. I donate whatever personal income I can every year to humanitarian organizations. I personally take care of an elderly that has been abandoned by the family, and I do not even claim him as a dependent on my taxes. Yet, I still rent and cannot afford my own home. I do what I can because I see it as the right thing to do, not because I am wealthy or that I have more time to spare than any other full time working citizens.

And I see many neurologically handicapped children in the rehab clinic who were victims of mothers abusing hard drugs and these children will never have any quality of life, until they are dead... I often wonder, is abortion wrong in all cases...?

According to the Christian Bible, I guess it is...

And I am a homosexual man, and that is not a personal choice (trust me on this). So, despite the humanitarian work I do, which is more than any of the straight co-workers or neighbors that I know, I am not entitled to marry the person of my choice as they can. That means that if my partner and I raise a child that he adapted, which no one wanted, if he happens to die before me and before the child is an independent adult, I will not be have custody of this child. The child will have to seek out strangers for foster care, away from a home she is happy growing up in.

How has legal marriage been associated with the Bible in this country? Marriage has existed for centuries in many cultures before there was ever the Christian Bible. Marriage is a legal binding agreement, not a religious ceremony. So what about those American couples who are not Christians and marry without the presence of a Bible?

I am good American citizen by all standards, so why am I denied this equal right as my straight counter parts? Just because the Bible said so?? Wait, I do not even believe in the Christian Bible, so why should this apply to me? Why should this apply to any good American citizen who do not believe in the Bible (there are plenty, trust me). I am not asking for special rights, just equal rights. Last time I check, America is the land that celebrates diversity. Last time I checked, America is not a religious state. Last time I checked, the Bible is not the law of this country.

Bible this Bile that, makes no sense to me, why should it apply to a good American citizen like me, where does it say in our constitution that the Christian Bible is the law..?

Making no sense...

Actually, you are making fine sense.

The 'Christian Bible' [sic] in neither the Hebrew Scriptures nor in the Christian Testament contains the word 'abortion' any more than either one of them contains the word 'homosexual' - though that's a different argument! While arguments can be made for the sacredness of life from Biblical texts, those arguments cannot extend to encompass the questions of 'when life begins' or 'what to do when the mother's life is threatened by a pregnancy' or any other questions concerning abortion. Deliberately causing the premature birth and subsequent death of a wanted child is treated as a loss of property to the male holding power over that life, and is reconciled in the Hebrew Scripture by a fine or similar punishment, but is certainly not treated as a sin, and does not speak to the abortion of a fetus that is severely compromised by genetic issues or the abortion of a fetus for any other personal reasons. Abortion was certainly known and practiced in biblical times. But the strained misuse of scripture to buttress current notions of 'life begins at conception' have no analog in biblical times. The 'quickening' of the fetus at about 4 to 5 months was often a time used to determine that the fetus was indeed 'alive', though even this was disputed in scriptural times, early Christian times, the medieval era and into the eras of modern and post-modern scientific technology.

DO understand that NOT ALL CHRISTIANS read the Bible in this strained and awkward way!

NOR do ALL CHRISTIANS read the Bible and string together the seven or so disarticulated and unrelated snippets of scripture that appear to have some relationship to homosexual actions [in the Hebrew scriptures, usually relating to ritual prostitution for pagan deities] and use these snippets to condemn the expressed love and fidelity of relationship between persons, who like you and your partner, have chosen to bond into love. MANY Christian believe and work for changes in the American legal system so that homosexual partnerships can have the legal protections that heterosexual marriages, whether civil or religious, take for granted: hospital visitation and choices made for the partner's care, custody and guardianship of minors, inheritance and property rights and so forth. These Christians also express empathy and desire for homosexual couples to be able to declare their partnership and commitment ceremonially, whether that become a component in the sacrament of Holy Matrimony, a new sacramental rite, a domestic partnership in civil terms, or another way in to such declaration.

You are to be commended for your charity and your volunteer activity in addition to your employment. Further, you are correct in saying that the Holy Bible - interpreted in whatever way believers may choose that interpretation - is NOT the law of the United States, and should NEVER be the law of the United States, and was NEVER intended to be so. Americans of the 17th and 18th centuries were painfully close to the human experience of theocracies, and wisely chose SECULAR models for American legislation, invoking Deity for guidance in employing those models for the common good.

I am a practicing Christian.
I am an American citizen, having that privilege by birth and heritage: some of my family were here to meet the first Europeans who came, and some of my family were among those first Europeans.
I agree with you that among our ideals is the great diversity of Americans, and the richness of those differences not melted down into an amorphous muddle, but brightly polished and gathered into coherent purpose with each one valued for its unique contribution to the common good.

Thanks for your comments.

So how does God view the "Collateral Damage" deaths

You seem to only care about abortion deaths. It is amazing that some of the same people who do not want babies to be abortion could give a darn about their health care, nutritional needs and general welfare after they are born. They view the many innocent civilians lost in war as expendable and you rarely hear any of them speak out about those deaths. Why?

God Almighty gave Man

God Almighty gave Man "free will". He will aid all those who pray in sincerity to Him,He will answer prayer if it is in the bet interest of the one praying, and in His own good time as He is all knowing and will do what is best for us all. but of course the prayers must be sent with true faith through Jesus'name.

No man has the right to degrade another for the colour of his skin,or religious beliefs.... however all men have the right and the responsibility to decide if one is honest, capable, and experienced enough to run a country............Remember "you are the company you keep."

GOD ALMIGHTY

WHO MADE UP THIS STUPID PHRASE "YOU ARE THE COMPANY YOU KEEP.

501 c3 pastor Arnold's Church must lose their tax exempt

Pastor Arnold Conrad's willow creek church in Davenport should lose its tax exempt status. --- Under 501 c3 not for profit church corporations, rules for a tax exempt reorganization a church pastor cannot preach partisan politics. That is because non profits, which all churches are, take tax money from all tax payers in the form of lower taxes, and it would not be fair to support just one party.

I am also praying

I am also praying vigourously and sincerely that Obama wins. Amen!

Anonymous, I don't think god favors anyone

to win; read your bible. It says to pay Caesar his taxes but to remain neutral to his politics. Anyway, if god were to have a hand in the presidential elections, do you really think he would have allowed/wanted dubya to win both the 2000 and 2004 elections? I think not!
(Of course dubya didn't really win the first one as he was APPOINTED, and the second one is in serious doubt as well).

Religion vs Politics

The rightwing nut self proclaimed "Conservative Christians" are nothing short of a cult of hypocrites who fail to understand the Word. Christ said to pray through Him not to Him for beginners. He said that His concerns were not of this world but that of heaven. There was a war going on in His day between the Romans and Judas' zealots that Jesus did not join nor did He advocate taking up arms against the Romans. While these religious nuts will blow up abortion clinics supposedly to save unborn children, they advocate blowing up entire families in an unnecessary, unwinnable war of choice in Iraq where privateers are making billions in American tax dollars for jobs not done or done so poorly as to be criminal. Our politicians won't do anything about it because these companies are major donors to their campaigns. RELIGION HAS NO PLACE IN AMERICAN POLITICS. NONE!!!!!!!

Clarifying a point of religion

Buddhists do not believe in God, any God at all. Buddha is seen as a wise teacher who taught people how to find enlightenment and escape from the world as they know it. Calling Buddha a God, as this Christian Minister has done, shows his ignorance of another faith and of its tenets and this ignorance deserves our contempt.

opinions are like...

Everyone has an opinion. You all know the saying, and it's true. The only sad thing is that there are those who are in a position of trust or power over the people, leaders, teachers, role models, who have NO KNOWLEDGE of what they say, and make sure they say it with authority. Take a hundred clerics, and you will find them evenly divided on choices, and all with separate reasons, and all will claim that it is foretold in the Scriptures, the Koran, or whatever religious book they hold their faith to. As for myself, I don't need anyone to tell me what to believe; there is NO church established in any one place on earth; all religions in one way or another say to find our own God within ourselves, and our own bodies are each the true houses of God, no matter what your religion. So, please, don't tell me who God favors; He (or She) is just sitting back with the equivalent of a six pack enjoying the show - after all, in a God's moment, it will all change.

NOBAMA

If you vote for Obama, just remember that you may be risking your children and your grandchildren's future. Obama has associated with radical Muslims, terrorist sympathizers, RACISTS, and Reverend Wright the anti-American preacher.... Obama won't wear a flag pin. He won't say the pledge of allegiance. He was a member of a church with known opinions of hate... a leader of a church who preaches hate? The list goes on and on and on. How many of these disparities must there be for people to finally open their eyes and realize something isn't right here.
If you think things are bad now, things will get much worse if Obama is elected.......Honestly, we cannot trust him......I am also unhappy with Bush, BUT I want seasoned, experienced change. Never, ever should Obama get to the White House. Obama has ZERO leadership, zero international, zero economic, and zero commander in chief experience. He won't visit wounded soldiers, he wants in implement Capital Gains Tax (that will kill your retirement savings and pension plans), he wants to expand taxes on small businesses (that is jobs), he wants to negotiate with terrorists and wants to attack Pakistan (that will get us into another war), his ideas for health care are insane (will require an 8 percent tax increase), and his cash give ways are ridiculous. Google GLOBAL POVERTY ACT to learn about the $845 BILLION give-away! IF Obama does gets elected more than half the nation will be BEGGING for the good ole days of G.W. Bush!

nobama?

I have to young sons- and I absolutley am voting for Obama. You need to check all your facts a little better, there are plenty of fact check sites out there. Mccain and Palin are playing to their base-John Mccain does not believe half the stuff he has WRITTEN for him to say about Obama.Typical of the neocons to drive fear into their base because so many are so uninformed.Anyone with an ounce of intellect wouldnt fall for it. Stop watching fox news and open up your narrow mind.

a living republican talking point

Sir, your post is a direct copy of the Republican talking points. They have all been proved wrong. Have you no ideas of your own?

nobama

You sir (madam) are an idiot, you are one of the people who do not check out the facts about all of the lies that have been in print and on the media about the canidates. Grow up, this is politics as usual.

posting on 'nobama'

O excuse me, Sunshine.
Who cares if "Obama won't wear a flag pin"?
When did a cheap piece of enameled metal, probably made in China, become the shibboleth of political correctness? When did such a jingoistic bit of nonsense become a talking point, obscuring real and vital issues that our countryfolk need to be discussing and our leaders need to be working on?
And, how do YOU know that "Obama won't recite the Pledge"? And, whether he does or doesn't, again - how did that become another shibboleth of American loyalty? I can remember when the Pledge was changed in the 1950s. It's not part of the Constitution; it's not part of the Declaration of Independence; there's nothing particularly holy or patriotic about its use, except as a ceremonial statement. Demonstrated and real allegiance to the United States comes by acting out loyalty to the deep ideals of our nation, not by mouthing a handful of words. We have had in the past years, including with Senator McCain's 25 years in the Senate, any number of so-called leaders who mouth the words but whose real allegiance is to the lobbyists and special interests who bought their election, who smeared the opposition with exactly the same sorts of irrelevancies that you have been propagandized into repeating, and who spent most of their energies in gaining wealth and power for themselves.

On to the preaching of one person: if you are going to take Obama to task for attending a predominantly Black church, you are going to have to acknowledge the unpleasant truth spoken by Martin Luther King, Jr., who correctly said that "11:00 on Sunday morning is the most segregated hour in America." Truth: most American Christians worship in churches that reflect in their membership folks who look most like themselves. Preachers say a lot of things that individuals in their congregations take or leave; and if a question is raised about how much Obama might be influenced by Jeremiah Wright, then certainly the same question must be raised about John McCain's long association with John Hagee and Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell and the hate messages they spew against loyal Americans who happen to be homosexual or happen not to be Christian of the 'right' kind. Questions will also need to be raised about the pastors' teaching and preaching in Sarah Palin's church and the partisan praying done that demonizes any American who disagrees with that teaching.

On the issues of foreign negotiation with tyrants and 'terrorists':
It was United States presidents and United States Congresses, including in the 25 years of Senator McCain's tenure in the Senate, who were the undergirding for such tyrants as the Shah of Iran, Fernando and Imelda Marcos, Batista, Saddam Hussein, and many others. Before the US turned against Fidel Castro, the US deep-pocket supported him in the 1950s. The United States has been involved in the negotiations and support of many a dictatorship, covertly or overtly. Both Republican and Democratic presidents sat down and face-to-face negotiated with various leaders of the USSR when that political entity was at its zenith of power; no one then or now believes that to do so meant that anyone in United States leadership agreed with the philosophy or goals of the USSR.
Further, and more positively, diplomacy and negotiation and necessary sanctions work: the relatively bloodless transformation of South Africa, and the transfer of power from British colonialism to independence in India are two demonstrations of the power of diplomacy over the power of military arms.

What is not right is that Senator McCain promised a campaign that would address real issues. He himself has been the subject of smear tactics and should not only eschew their use himself but be a strong enough leader to effectively forbid their use by any of his campaign staff and volunteers. Such strength would go far to demonstrate his real leadership abilities, and that he has not been able to do so is practical demonstration of a fundamental weakness in his leadership.

RE: NOBAMA

WELL, you've done a fine and loyal job at reciting sound-bites from TV ads...."radical Muslims, terrorist sympathizers, RACISTS, Reverend Wright, flag pin, pledge of allegiance, Capital Gains Tax,taxes on small businesses, negotiate with terrorists, attack Pakistan..." etc, etc, etc. blah blah blah....
Here's a NEW idea. Read a little. Do some research. Get your face out of the TV and your head out of your ass, and READ! RESEARCH! Talk to knowledgeable people, stop being a puppet to Cheney, Rove, Hannity, McNeil, Rush, etc., and educate yourself instead of parroting the mindless mantra of these "mavericky" type puppeteers.
And here's a realllly new approach for you: THINK! I know, you've been asked not to. But stand up for yourself and seek out a little Truth from time to time.

SUNSHINE is non

SUNSHINE is non educated.America doesnt need you. We feel sorry for you :-((

What does God has to do with it?

This is an excellent article. One of comments in response to this article here, on the other hand, is just quite frightening... It just shows that facts and logic make no difference to the convicted and ignorant. In any case, this country is not a theocratic but a democratic society. We observe civil laws, not religious laws. Let us not forget about Separation of Church and State? The US is not Iran, Libya, or Saudi Arabia, where civil laws are subjectively interpreted through one "holy" book. Furthermore, let us not also confuse democracy with tyranny of the majority either. Remember The German Nationalist Party and the Nazi movement..? Democracy is power of ALL people, majority or minority, where everyone has equal rights and voices. That includes none Christians, agnostic, and atheists who do not believe the presence of "God". It would be a mistake to vote someone into office to perform a job to guarantees equal rights for all citizens across the spectrum, majority and minority citizens and all, based on ones' personal religious orientation. Vote with one's mind, not heart. Religion is, after all, a personal choice, a personal truth, not an universal truth. So what does "God" have to do with it? Religion has no place in education, government, and politics.

Funny...

I don't recall the exact book and verse, I'm not that much of a Bible thumper. I practice my faith in the Almighty quietly. But I thought God said, "I go by many names..." Many Names...

Oh... wait! That must be from the Old Testament that was written by those pesky Hebrews - as God is ONLY God. It cannot be that God goes by more than just GOD.

We are a Nation of MANY Faiths people! Many Faiths. Light a candle so you will not fear the dark.

Funny...Not Funny At All

THANK YOU!!! Someone can actually see the BIG picture. I applaude you. You have renewed my faith that people can actually think no less get the point as well. Smart, succinct and right on target. Thanks!

Why do you just look at

Why do you just look at things black and white and so dumb.Obama would not kill a baby and he would not marry a man but we should all stop pointing a finger and trying to rule the lives of others.God made us all.some of the republican who have practiced scare tactics about Obama is gonna reap their wrath just as the crooks on Wall street and in politics in general, Obama is the best chance we have for real change ,He doesn't like free loaders and he really wants a different America , one that was started by our forefaathers ,the way it is suppose to be , all the illegal stuff going on will come to a halt if Obama has any control, he does not like the way things are now ,it is shameful to praise this fallen system ,we really need a change and if Obama doesn't lead us God will but I think with Obama's word alot of things are already changing for us, he is a good influence on the people

Gods Will

God has a WILL that can not be changed, as foolish as it my sound everything that is going on is purposed by God. No one has free will there is only one will that is the Will of God. The ignorance in man has seperated itself from GOD. The difference in (good) and evil is that (GOOD) is conscience of that, while evil is not, the (thing) (it)evil will not give GOD ALL OF THE CREDIT.

Free Will and Education

God gave Man free will to make decisions..... If you have to sit in front of a tv and watch the news media tell you what you have just seen and heard in a speech or a debate, then you are incapable of decerning for yourself what you have just witnessed or heard........unfortnately, most of our mighty Nation has the problem of depending on the media to tell them what they have seen and heard.....that is so sad...also most of our nation is unable to investigate what a candidate has or has not done in his life, in and out of politics..
This inability leaves these persons unable to make wise and educated decisions....

Let's Get Something Settled Here In A Civilized Manner

God has many names. Yes, the Bible states that in the Old Testament. The current Pope knows the LORD as "Gott" in his native language, German. In French the LORD's Name is "Dieu", in Spanish "Dios", Greek "Theos", in Japanese "Kami" and in Arabic He's called "Allah". Referring to Allah as another god is ignorant, Christians who speak Arabic call the LORD "Allah". In Ehiopia (and in the Carribean) He is known as "Jah". In Native American languages He is referred to by names like "Grandfather", "Creator Raven" and often the "Great Spirit" even by Christianized Native Americans. This so-called "minister" needs to do his homework and READ the Scriptures more intensely. Religious belief shouldn't be mixed up with politics. As long as the candidate's beliefs do not harm or are destructive to others or are forced on other people then it doesn't matter. Religion and politics DO NOT EVER mix, in a democracy church and state are ALWAYS separate. Remember what the First Amendment clearly says? BTW "Hindu" doesn't refer to just one religion - it is several faiths with various dieties. Allah is God. Buddha, on the other hand, is something else altogether. Siddhartha Gautauma Buddha was an actual living philosopher in India. He lived, and he died. He was just a mortal person like ourselves. Have a good day. Peace.

RELIGIOUS ZEALOTS...!

I'm hoping Pastor Arnold Conrad's church in Davenport, Iowa, will be investigated by IRS for commenting on the presidential politics in the pulpit. He could be losing his church tax exemption in the process. We have to be thankful that our country is based on separation of church and state, otherwise, we'll be going back to the Middle Ages. Larry Charles the filmmaker of the new Bill Maher's movie called "Religulous" recently says "The fundamentalists are the problem, their literal interpretation of the Bible allows them to do violence to others. They deserve to be illuminated, and they need to be mocked." I think Pastor Conrad fits the bill, and several pastors that are banded together recently against the IRS rule, so they can talk to their congragetions not to vote for Obama during sermon. What were they thinking? Do you think they're doing this because God told them to do so?

NOBAMA THE ONLY WORD I HAVE

NOBAMA THE ONLY WORD I HAVE YOU IS COMPLETE LACK OF EDUCATION AND A VERY IGNORANT WHAT EVER YOU ARE.

Rev. Jermiah Wright

For those white Americans who are truely racist, they love to malign Rev. Wright. To say that Rev. White is a racist, gives justification to those White Americans who look down on African-Americans, and other minorities, and who themselves are racist. No one can point to anything that Rev. Wright said that demonstrates that he has contempt or hatred toward White America. If Rev. Wright is racist, would he have white friends, which he does? What White America does not want to hear is the truth. Certainly, I do not condone the statement about "God ___ America." However, if America does not change its policies towards other nations, then God will bring damnation upon this country. God has a history of doing that, just read your Bible. Remember the Roman Empire?

There were those who had contempt and hatred towards Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who also challenged his country both on the civil rights front, and the Vietnam War. These same people who find contempt towards Rev. Wright, would have also found contempt for Dr. King, who is now recognized by many, albeit late, as a true American hero.

Rev. Wright is a Marine, who served his country with distinction during the Vietnam War. The Bush Administration lied to the American people about Saddam Hussien, and got this country into a war that has led to the deaths of hundred of thousands of innocent Iraqi citizens, over 4,500 U. S. soldiers have been killed as well. Rev. Wright is simply challenging this government's motives. As Rev. Wright stated, when a country practices violence, as this country has, violence will come back. Violence begets violence. If the American people allows its government to sow seeds of violence abroad, then the "chickens will return to roost."
