McCain's Plan: Scare the Voters with Iran and Obama's Inexperience

ImageWhile the media is going on and on today about the war of words between McCain and Obama over Iran, they missed the not so subtle subtext that McCain is making the same failed experience argument that doomed Hillary Clinton. McCain seems ready dredge up the tired argument that Obama is too reckless and inexperienced to be president.

"Senator Obama has declared, and repeatedly reaffirmed his intention to meet the President of Iran without any preconditions, likening it to meetings between former American Presidents and the leaders of the Soviet Union. Such a statement betrays the depth of Senator Obama's inexperience and reckless judgment. Those are very serious deficiencies for an American president to possess,” McCain said.

The McCain campaign has decided that the best way to defeat Obama is to scare the American people out of their desire for change. McCain isn’t only saying that Obama is inexperienced. He is also insinuating that Obama’s inexperience could lead to the deaths of Americans. His point isn’t so much about Iran, but that Obama is a danger to national security. The point being that if McCain can successfully frighten Americans about Iran, then maybe they won’t be so eager for change.

It is fascinating that McCain would call Obama reckless because of his inexperience, but yet ideologically he stands firmly behind the most reckless and incompetent president in our nation’s history, George W. Bush. The problem for McCain is that he has to try to make Obama the issue of the fall campaign, because he can’t run on the issues that really matter to the voters. McCain is wrong on the Iraq war, wrong on healthcare, and wrong on the economy.

McCain and the Republicans can try to sexy up the inexperience argument by throwing some scare tactics about Iran into the mix, but when you strip it down, you’ll see that is really the same experience argument that Hillary Clinton unsuccessfully used during the primary season. McCain can try to distract voters any way he can, but they will see that he offers more of the same, and he can’t satisfy their deep craving for change.

McCain scare tactics

Most of our Presidents have not had military experience, it's not a requirement.

Bill Clinton had no foreign policy experience before taking office. Neither did Ronald Reagan. Neither did Abraham Lincoln for that matter, our greatest president. And I think you should not be concerned that Obama will choose incompetent advisers. He is an extremely intelligent person, and will not be intimidated by anyone. He will only choose very smart people to work with him.

Bush hired a bunch of his Dads cronies, people whose policies and politics were not able to get his Dad elected to a second term. McCain will do the same. Colin Powell resigned as Secretary of State largely because President Bush didn't listen to his advice when it did not affirm Bush's own views. Bush disregarded the "Advise and Consent" role of Congress. He seldom even bothered to consult with Democrats or even Republicans who might have disagreed with him.

What would we be like today if he had picked a staff of people interested in education or health care or stabilizing the national debt? He has lost us a lot of world respect putting us into a dangerous situation. Many countries we could call upon as friends in the past will not be as ready to support us because of his arrogance and lack of leadership and I must impart intelligence.

The reason I keep referring back to Bush is if McCain is not even allowed to pick his own VP what could give us any logical reasoning that he is allowed to do anything else. VP use to have no real roll. Of course with Cheney we have found this to be different.

The country has to take an active leadership in the world but only to do so while building coalitions and support from other countries. Restore US as a Global leader this cannot be done with the continued policies of the R’s abuse & neglect.
