Obama Calls McCain's Debate Bluff

ImageDemocratic presidential candidate Barack Obama turned the tables on John McCain’s call to delay the debate on Friday by saying that people need to hear from their leaders right now, and called for Friday’s debate to go on as scheduled.

Obama said that this is the time when people need to hear from the candidates the most, “This is exactly the time the American people need to hear from the person who in approximately 40 days will be responsible with dealing with this mess.”

Obama believes that the negotiations should not be infused with presidential politics, and that he that he will be in Washington if he can be helpful, “What I’ve told the leadership in Congress is that if I can be helpful then I am prepared to be anywhere, anytime. What I think is important is that we don’t suddenly infuse Capitol Hill with presidential politics…”

Obama also took a jab at McCain twice by saying that presidents need to be able to do more than one thing at a time, “Presidents are going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time. It’s not necessary for us to think that we can only do one thing and suspend everything else.” This is a stunt by the McCain which is designed to allow McCain to run ads that claim that Obama puts politics over country.

I am a little surprised because I thought that Obama might agree to postpone the debate, but he has decided to play hardball and call McCain’s bluff. After hearing Obama’s side, I do believe that since President Bush has been invisible on this issue, until tonight, somebody has to fill the leadership vacuum. It seems like the McCain campaign is so afraid to debate the economy that they are willing to take a gamble in order to turn our attention away from the economy and back to the issue of character.

My big question about McCain’s position is that he is constantly touting how unpopular he is with his fellow Congressional Republicans, but these same Republicans are the people holding up passage of the bill. If McCain is so unpopular, and such a maverick, how is his presence in Washington going to help pass the bill, it really does make McCain look not like a leader, but someone who is trying to duck the debate.

McCain would have credibility if he had a consistent position on the bailout, or even spoke about the economy. The reality is that McCain was trying to change the subject, but Obama saw through it and avoided the trap. The Republicans will sell this as leadership, but McCain is a candidate who is floundering. He can try to change the subject, but McCain isn’t showing leadership, only political desperation.

I smell fish!

I think Palin will also Postpone debate to Biden. Well, This is again Typical Mccain/Palin strategy. He is now suffering of Alzeimer like Ronald Regan. He must go to Psychiatrist!Volks! if you are concerned about what's going to our Nation,Think Big! vote OBAMA/BIDEN he will not let you down. Love your country once and for all.

there is one reason that

there is one reason that mcain is postponing the debate, he doesnt have an economic plan. he is delaying to buy time to actually think up of something to say about our economy at the next debate. obama, being the better more responsible canidate, already has a plan for boosting our economy. He should not have to wait for mcain to get his campaingn in order. also palin is just so dumb and unqualifyed for holidng a governement position. whe has though up of zero policies. all she does is repeat what mcain says. Her idea of being vice president is looking after the presidents health. she can be quoted on that because she said it during a t.v. interview. also palin does not believe in evolution. it is not taught in alaskan school districts because she abolished it. in her short term of govenor, she has already produced a scandal. when her brother in law, a state trooper in alaska, divorced her sister she pressured the cheif of police of alaska to fire him. let me ask you america, would you want a clueless, annoying person who abuses power as vp or possibly run the country if mcain dies. Go hom palin.
OBAMA/BIDEN 08 vote for BARACK

Admit...I was worried

I will admit that yesterday when I first read that McCain announced he was suspending all campaigning, heading straight to Washington, wanted to postpone the first of the Presidential debates and was asking Obama to join him in this effort…I was worried. This seemed to immediately put Obama in a difficult position. Since McCain had announced it to live TV first and stated he was asking that Obama join him, if Obama did then this would have the appearance that Obama is a follower while McCain is a leader. If Obama declined, I felt that the spin would have been made that Obama doesn’t care about the American people or the failing economy but only about winning the election. Hence, encouraging the McCain mantra …”I’m an American first.”

However, I was first jubilant when I heard about Obama’s response to this latest case of McCain/Palin political grand standing. After the jubilation, I admit I wanted to kiss Obama and his staff and I’m not a political stalker. I was proud though that the Obama campaign staff took a potentially fatal situation and forced it into a complete 180. Once again, they came out swinging and forced the McCain camp to step back and reassess.

I have no doubt who the better candidates to run our country are, but I fear that a large portion of the general population is influenced by what they see and not by what they know or understand. The McCain camp has pulled a number of Hale Marys that had it been closer to the end of the game, might have worked. However, it appears that Sarah Palin’s appeal is starting to wear thin and that her lack of qualification is on the tip of many tongues finally. I could blast her on any number of issues but essentially it comes down to experience and qualification, both of which she has none.

In regards to the debate, if Obama is there, McCain cannot afford not to be there. Obama has stood strong and if McCain refrains from participating this essentially gives Obama 90 minutes of air time. McCain cannot afford this. However, I still think that you will NOT see Palin anywhere near a debate on October 2nd. Though the McCain camp cannot afford to give Biden 90 minutes of air time, I don’t think they can afford nor are they prepared to put Sarah in that much light. If they do, I imagine that the campaign staff will be working overtime immediately following the debate with a massive amount of damage control.

By the way, did I say that I wanted to kiss Obama and his staff for that terrific response?
