In Virginia today, Barack Obama seized on the fact that John McCain can’t remember how many houses he owns to use the out of touch elitist charge against the Republican.
Yesterday, when asked by Politico how many houses
he owns McCain said, “I think — I’ll have my staff get to you. Its condominiums where — I’ll have them get to you.”
This lead Obama to say, “Think about that. I guess if you think that being rich means you’ve got to make $5 million, and if you don’t know how many houses you have, then it’s not surprising that you might think the economy is fundamentally strong! But if you’re like me, and you’ve got one house… you might have a different perspective.”
The Obama campaign has also used McCain’s non-answer in a new ad that connects McCain’s wealth with being out of touch with the economy. You can view the ad below:
The McCain campaign released a statement about Obama that in fine McCain ’08 form pulled out all of the smears, including the now classic bitter.“Does a guy who made more than $4 million last year, just got back from vacation on a private beach in Hawaii and bought his own million-dollar mansion with the help of a convicted felon really want to get into a debate about houses? Does a guy who worries about the price of arugula and thinks regular people ‘cling’ to guns and religion in the face of economic hardship really want to have a debate about who’s in touch with regular Americans?,” McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said.
This is a noticeable change in Obama’s attacks on McCain. Finally, the Democrat is showing some aggressiveness. McCain’s non-answer also highlights the fact that this old man doesn’t seem to know what’s going on in his own life. If this is the case, the Obama campaign needs to ask how voters can trust a man is clueless about his own property to manage the economy, and if McCain did know how much property he owns, and just did not want to say, the Obama campaign needs to ask why?
This gaffe is typical of McCain. The story of his campaign so far, has been that every time he starts to make progress, he shoots himself in the foot. McCain opened the door wide for the Democrats on this one, and the Obama campaign would be wise to hammer this one every single day until Obama’s speech next Thursday.
Obama really needs 2 jump hard & heavy on this one!! This is the same guy who couldn’t answer when reporters asked him about economic issues; when asked back in late May about what he thought about Americas economic problems, McCain answered; “I’m not really up on the state of the ecomomy right now.” And when asked by a reporter about why he voted in favor of a bill that paid for viagra but not for contraceptives for women, McCain couldn’t even remember the bill or why he voted in favor of it. Then, he agreed with Bush about not talking to our adversaries, & critisized Obama about being willing to speak to the president of Iran, but in the same breath said we would have to at one point “sit down & talk to these people.” I could go on & on about this old guy & his double-talk, but I don’t have nearly enough memory on my laptop!! This guy has been the “double-talk express” for some time now, and people need to really check out what McCain really stands for. He tries to portray this “maverick” image crap, believing his own dilusions. He’s brainwashed conservatives & some independents with his so-called “straight-talk” & attacks on Obama, which is why his campaign made the point that they speak for McCain, not he for himself. McCain couldn’t find a coherent sentence with 4 hands & a flashlite!! McCain is nothing more than a puppet for the continued policies of the Bush presidency, PERIOD!!! If anyone thinks differently they need 2 really do thier homework & check out McCains ENTIRE voting record & where he got alot of his campaign money; EXXON OIL!!! Americans r so used 2 getting lied 2 & just continue 2 allow it, no matter how bad the evidence is, Americans simply turn the other cheek & get crapped on time after time. Well, the truth is evident that all men r not created equal. Especially those who own so many houses that they 4got how many they have. Or when ur wife is so rich, she can make import & export deals under the table with Cuba & not get in trouble 4 it. The evidence is clear when u look behind the grey veil of lies and money. Believe me McCain & his wife have plenty of both; Lies & Money.
