Obama Hammers McCain for Distracting Voters With Smears

At a rally in Asheville, NC today, Barack Obama will hammer John McCain for trying to turn the page on the economic crisis by distracting voters with Swiftboat style attacks against him.
Obama will say, “And on Friday, we learned that we’d lost another 159,000 American jobs in September. It was the ninth straight month of job losses – more than three quarters of a million this year, including 24,000 here in North Carolina. And it came just as we finished a week in which our financial markets teetered on the brink of disaster. Yet instead of addressing these crises, Senator McCain’s campaign has announced that they plan to turn the page on the discussion about our economy and spend the final weeks of this campaign launching Swiftboat-style attacks on me.”
Obama hits McCain hard on his turn the page comment, “Think about that for a second. Turn the page on the economy? We’re facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and John McCain wants us to “turn the page?” Well, I know the policies he’s supported these past eight years and wants to continue are pretty hard to defend. I can understand why Senator McCain would want to “turn the page” and ignore this economy.”
Obama says that McCain and his operatives would rather distract the country with smears, than talk about substance, “Senator McCain and his operatives are gambling that he can distract you with smears rather than talk to you about substance. They’d rather try to tear our campaign down than lift this country up. It’s what you do when you’re out of touch, out of ideas, and running out of time.
He continues, "I want you to know that I’m going to keep on talking about the issues that matter – about the economy and health care and education and energy. I’m going to keep on standing up for hard working families. We’re not going to let John McCain distract us from what we need to do to move this country forward.”
Obama is correct, and he is also getting more bold. Like any great politician, he smells blood in the water, and he is going in for the kill. He is going to keep pummeling McCain on the economy every day until November 4. McCain is not going to win this election with personal attacks. It is like he and his advisors don’t understand that 2008 is not a Republican year. They are not going to win this election by running same campaign that worked in 2000 and 2004.
Republicans don’t have a legacy of scandal to run against as they did in 2000, and they don’t have the most important issues on their side as they did in 2004. The McCain camp doesn’t get it. This election is being contested on the economy. If they want to win this election, they have to come up with an alternative economic plan that goes beyond generic conservative platitudes about tax cuts, spending, and entitlements.
People want to know what the candidates are going to do about jobs, prices, home foreclosures, and the financial crisis. These are questions that can’t be answered by promising a tax cut. George W. Bush already did that. So far, only Obama is talking about the issues that matter most to voters. Running a character campaign, when voters want to hear about the issues is a path to certain defeat, and this the road that John McCain is speeding down, oblivious to the warning signs all around him.

The real parasites are these 'so called' republican supporting McCain. Tell me, how on earth do you keep justifying your ill-informed claims about other people who do not agree with McCain and republican disastrous 8 years in the office? Bush and McCain republican has completely ruined the country... and the entire world by implication. Innocent American lives lost in senseless and deceiptive war to avenge unfinished father Bush's war. There were no any weapon of mass destruction found? It was complete lies to the Americans and Bush should be tried for war crime. The result of Bush (supported by McCain) blunders did not only caused millions of death and misery (through directly and indirectly implications) but has made the entire world more dangerous, poorer and no go area for American citizens.
The economy has been completely ruined and if you elect McCain who wants to start another war with Iran, where are you going to get the money to pay for it? You gotta use your brain and do the simple economics here... You may hate or dislike your fellow Americans who are not so rich, not so mainstream and need help to be on their feet from their Goverment but this is not a crime. Even so, their are many nice republicans too who also have benefited from goverment free handouts. It's complete nonsense your perception of government role to its citizens. Governement is not soley to wage wars with our tax dollars but to meet the basic needs of its citizens... QED.
Just take McCain's economic policy soundbite for example, to freeze all government spending except for the continuation of the war and the military/veterans... ? Come on this is not right. It is completely wrong measures for fixing the broken economy. My republican friend, get smart and think clearly for the sake of America and the rest of the world and do the right thing for America. It's more patriotic to come onboard the train for a change... with the Obama ticket... and stop politicking for once in your life.
The only one asking for
The only one asking for handouts right now IS THE GOVERNMENT. As I recall they just asked for a handout from taxpayers for over $700 Billion dollars. The DOW was at 9600 points last I checked- which tells me that the whole idea of a "bail out" isnt going very well. The only "lazy parasites" are the rich CEO's that have profited from all of this while the middle class has struggled to pay their bills.
I gather from your comment that your single and childless. A majority of people in this country right now (including myself) work 40+ hours a week, are educated (i went to college and recieved a degree) and yet still struggle to make ends meet. We're not making enough to keep up with how much fuel, food, housing and utilities- basic needs. Throw that in with sinking 401k plans, budget cuts...I want the government to SERVE THE PEOPLE like our Constitution talks about. Nothing is a FREE HANDOUT. I pay my taxes, I work and I deserve better than this.

Well anyone in their right
Well anyone in their right mind should be fed up by now of the eight years of whirling down the drain. That is where the Americans are headed. The Bushes are the WORST President ever!!! People have worked so hard to have homes and the finer things in Life where as they can retire and enjoy life, relax and travel. Now they are all stressed out, have spent their little savings trying to hold on to their home if they haven't already lost it. We are going down, and who ever gets in the White House, if they are for helping us they have a big huge MESS THAT BUSH HAS MADE to straighten out.
Bring our sons home!
Our current Republican administration is fighting in Iraq to claim dominance of Iraq's oil reserves. It is not working and the administration refuses to let it go. In the meantime, even though the ground troop as slowed down the fighting, there is still continuance of air bombing of the heavily populated areas. There is a holocaust in Iraq. Our sons are part of the bullyings! The economic system is failing. Oil prices have risen since being in Iraq from $30 per barrel. We are owned by China and other countries. We might as well be the American Republic of China.
Our country has become quite evil and are great bullies. Not a good example to those they put in jail for the violence in our country. Leave the Iraqi's alone! There is a better way. At this late stage, I'm not sure how any of those mid-eastern states can forgive us for what we've done to their country.
We are already paying for this military force of dominance economically. I hope that we don't get killed for our current administration's very bad decisions.
I pray that God takes over and protects us, the people of the United States, just because we live here!
