Obama Rejects Town Halls with McCain

ImageIn a letter to the Commission on Presidential Debates, Barack Obama’s campaign manager David Plouffe seems to reject the idea of Obama and McCain engaging in a series of town hall appearances around the country.

“Due to the late date of the two parties’ nominating conventions, and the relatively short period between the end of the conventions and the first proposed debate, it is likely that the four Commission debates will be the sole series of debates in the fall campaign. Consequently, we believe that finalizing the arrangements for these debates with promptness and certainty is in the interests of both campaigns and the American people,” Plouffe wrote.

The McCain campaign had originally proposed that the two candidates hold a series of joint town hall meetings without national television coverage or a moderator. This would have been a wonderful format for McCain who excels in the town hall format, but is bad on television, and a terrible debater. For the Obama this format would leave him with little to gain, and a lot to lose.

Back when the McCain campaign cared about issues, they made this proposal as a campaign gimmick. They wanted Obama to reject their idea, so that they could campaign on the idea that Obama is afraid to debate them and discuss the issues, but after 22 Democratic debates and more than a dozen Republican debates, I like the idea of no more debates until September 26.

I have never heard anyone say three presidential debates, and one vice presidential debate after Labor Day are not enough. Voters are not clamoring for more debates, and joint appearances. What I would like to see is Ralph Nader and Bob Barr in some form included in the debates. The biggest problem isn’t that there are too few debates, but that the debates are only open to two candidates. Obama was right to reject the town hall format, but both campaigns are doing voters a disservice by excluding all the major candidates from the debates.

obama a prop

Anyone with any intelligence at all, should know that Obama is nothing more than a democratic prop. He's a joke. If you think we should drop everything in Iraq and run home, you better think again. Talk about leaving a mess! I agree, we should not have gone in to begin with and wonder why Colin Powell has no been indicted for giving false information and misleading us all. That being said, McCain is the best man to pull us out of this mess. Not a newbie puppet.

Obama a Prop

Look Snookums...Obama can be what ever he wants to be, but we, the American people are tired of paying trillions of dollars every month for you to be in a non-existent, purposeless, un-winable war while people at home are in foreclosure, banks are closing, and gas is at an all time high. And why are you over there? Because Mac is a loser, and even at the risk of hurting all of America, he will be trying to win a dumb war. We lost the Viet Nam war, the only war he has ever been in...yet he says "I know how to win a war". What a bunch of baloney. The whole world knows this is true. take a look at this excerpt from an article from the U.K.

John McCain versus Osama bin Laden
o Ken Gude
o guardian.co.uk,

McCain's backtracking from his vow to hunt down the al-Qaida leader is just one of his foreign policy flip-flops

John McCain pledged during the Republican primary to follow Osama bin Laden to the gates of hell. But he told Larry King on Monday that he won't go after bin Laden in his new sanctuary in northwestern Pakistan. Since Cerberus is not known to be perched on the Pakistani border, which is it? McCain keeps complaining that he can't break through the media's obsession with Barack Obama. But he should be grateful for their diverted gaze, because if anyone was actually paying attention to his incoherent ramblings they would find out that he doesn't have a firm grasp of his own foreign policy positions and a shocking ignorance of the threats arrayed against the United States.

McCain has built his entire political career around his experience as a prisoner of war. That service and sacrifice deserves the unyielding gratitude of all Americans. What it does not deserve is the blind acceptance that because he was a POW, he is automatically an expert on national security and foreign policy. Wake up people and listen to what he is saying. If anyone other than McCain had demonstrated this level of confusion on critical questions of national security, they would never be considered a serious candidate for president.

Unwinnable

Unwinnable....wow are you eating those words. If you want to cheer against you're own country, then get the hell out of America!

debates

obama is smart. he has no desire to ramble on like mccain does at the phoney town hall meetings.

You need some more Kool Aid.

You need some more Kool Aid.

You need some more Kool Aid.

Lovely... will you be serving that in Czechoslovakia?

town halls

Please....Obama fills stadiums...millions tune in to watch him speak...why shoud Mccain ride the Obama express for free...he can't fill a ballroom at a condemed hotel and find people to turn out...He's pathetic...the old man and America's hottest governor for commander in chiefs....priceless

town halls

It's not about running on the Obama express for free. Look at where Obama's millions came from dill-rod, maybe then you'll see why this dude is so dangerous. Out of the 6 major banks that went under, 4 were top contributors to your boy's campaign. What a great leader! Have coffee with Terrorists, buys his house from a convicted extortionist known for pocketing politicians, has the most racist hateful man on earth as his pastor of 20 years, yet everything seems to slide right off of him. If you are that blind to think that the media has nothing to do with that then it's you who is drinking the kool-aid biaaatch.
