Ron Howard’s Pro Obama Video Epic

ImageDirector Ron Howard who to those of us of a certain age was Richie from Happy Days and to those with a bit more gray was Opie from The Andy Griffith Show has teamed up with former co-stars Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler to reprise his most famous roles in a pro-Obama video.

As you can see, the video is funny, but not too heavy handed. Howard said that he has voted for both Democrats and Republicans in the past, but in 2008 he feels that the country needs change. As he put some people will label as part of liberal Hollywood, but I think that his video shows that the notion that this nation is on the wrong path extends from sea to sea. Did you really think that you would ever see Andy and Opie, or Richie and the Fonz again?

This was a lighthearted video that as Howard said was designed to get people to take 5 minutes and think about the choices in this election. Maybe it is because I am getting a little older, or maybe I just need a break from all the negativity in this campaign, but this video made me laugh, and I think it is a great way to spend a couple of minutes of your time. I am starting to get to the point where videos like this are an oasis in a desert of endless political ads.

In this clip we see a cross section of generations expressing their opinion and I wanted to thank them for it.I enjoyed the revival of these sitcom characters, but don’t be fooled by the schtick.Theses actors are not attention seeking, loud mouthed leftist liberals. They are independent, thoughtful, honest and caring professionals. They are expressing something with which I happen to agree.I decided two years ago after reading “Audacity of Hope” that Barack Obama was a beacon of light for the future.I never sent a penny to a political campaign, nor as an independent voted in a primary.I wrote a few checks to his campaign and registered as a Democrat to cast my primary vote. These 3 actors have made me smile in the past and I admire their current work(check out Winkler’s books for children)I thank them for telling us who they are for in a gentle, humorous way. May this spot find its way to some undecideds of all ages who appreciate their sincerity. Thanks for posting it here.

We also enjoyed Ron,Andy and Henry in their original fun times. Even some of Ron’s directing is fine, as was Andy’s later TV rolls. We’re not up on Henry’s children’s books, as our children are adults now and our tastes run to a different period. This video falls way short of their ability as indicated from the start, Ron is looking thru the view finder with the cap still on! Authentic? The use of “moose” and “loose” to run down Governor Palin, is a back door approach to something much below what I had considered their good taste and standard. Obama is using jelly and peanut butter to entice young voters and those older, gullible enough, to join him, just as a South Chicago politician or used car salesman, in that area, sell problematic promises and defective used vehicles.

This is foolishness, of course. But it was nice foolishness. Nobody lied to me. Nobody insulted my intelligence. In this age of attack ads, pit bull politicians, and media frenzy over how much a haircut cost, I found it refreshing.

I was watching back to back old Andy Griffith shows thinking that I could find a place on TV that was neutral and escape from the negative politics for awhile, but I was wrong. I thought this was low class and almost an invasion of privacy. I guess nothing is sacred from the Hollywood liberals.
