Michael Steele Calls Rush Limbaugh an Entertainer

March 2, 2009
By

ImageThis little nugget may have passed some people by, but after Rush Limbaugh’s speech at CPAC, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele went on D.L. Hughley’s CNN show and called Rush an entertainer. Steele was already trying to do damage control.

Here is the video:

Just in case any of you didn’t feel like watching the clip, Steele said, “So let’s put it into context here. Let’s put it into context here. Rush Limbaugh is an entertainer. Rush Limbaugh, his whole thing is entertainment. He has he is an incendiary. Yes, it’s ugly.” So even before Rahm Emanuel threw gasoline on the fire on yesterday’s Face The Nation, Steele already saw that he had a problem. I think Steele’s problem is even bigger than he can possibly imagine.

I have to give him credit for having the guts to go toe to toe with Rush. Recently, Republicans have shown themselves to be complete cowards when it comes to criticizing Limbaugh, and with good reason, he has a huge conservative audience that he can use to make or break a Republican politician. However, the party could fence Limbaugh in if it wanted to simply by freezing him out. Yes, he has a big audience, but if Republicans started showing favor to other conservative talkers, or if the party could unify in saying that Limbaugh doesn’t speak for them, then he could be marginalized.

Neither of these things will happen. The Republican Party is in every man for himself mode, and has no unifying leadership. If it comes down to Rush Limbaugh versus Michael Steele, Rush will win that one hands down. Steele may have the title of party chairman, but he doesn’t have much control or sway with his membership. What Steele sees is a talk show host usurping him as the voice of the party.

His comments were designed to remind people of who is really in charge. Unfortunately for him, I get the sense that many Republicans would love to have Limbaugh as their party chairman. The Democrats are using Limbaugh as the face of the GOP, and I don’t think that there is anything Michael Steele can do about it.

Steele was shown his ‘place’. He was elected as a token by the Republican party to show ‘dem liberals’ that ‘we’re open minded, too!’. Steele is nothing but a ‘straw man’ being put up to take the hits being thrown by everyone around. Rush is there to fiddle away while Rome burns. Very sad.

“I have to give him credit for having the guts to go toe to toe with
Rush.” – I would totally give that a shot. But – on video, where I can
record about 10-15 takes… one of them should be perfect!

We did see that the bipartite system had one flaw – namely, that it did not embrace the vistaprint coupon initiative.

The two-party system in this country needs to be changed to a NO-PARTY system thus eliminating their constant destructive vitriol which does nothing for the constituents. – best comment of the year? I totally agree, no matter who is elected the other parts are against everything they stand for.

Rush Limbaugh said a lot of things that a great many Americans are feeling right now, regardless of party. Michael Steele is the head of a party which needed new leadership and has found it in him. If you listen closely or read what he said, he was actually just stating the obvious, that Rush is an entertainer and that the words he uses to GET HIS POINT ACROSS come out as incendiary, ugly…etc. The opposing party uses the same terminology every day; as a matter of fact it was red meat to them during the previous eight years. Now, they are hearing it directed at them and cannot take it. It’s sad…Republicans and conservatives have grown a thick skin during that time, and now, well, now the shoe is indeed on the other foot.

The two-party system in this country needs to be changed to a NO-PARTY system thus eliminating their constant destructive vitriol which does nothing for the constituents. It’s obvious that the hidden objectives of both parties are to satisfy their lust for power. Without party commitments a politician would be free to represent his values and focus more on issues rather than driven to follow biased party objectives.

Thank you, At last somebody with some common sense and a realistic view of our political system. However even with a no party system it would still be all about the power. And yeah lets not forget money.

Michael Steele is being used and he doesnt even know it. Its a shame I really think he wants to do well and bring more minorities to the party, but he wont win because they dont care about making things better for all.

I feel bad for Michael Steele. He wasn’t an RNC member when he was elected, so I don’t think he really knew what he was getting into. I agree with the above comment. He seems sincere about changing the Republican Party. Unfortunately for him, I don’t think Republicans yet see the need to change.

  18. Anonymous on March 2, 2009 at 4:51 pm

We, Conservatives, Do not need to change. If you had listened to Rush we are who we are and we are not going to change even for the new RNC!

  19. Anonymous on March 2, 2009 at 5:17 pm

yes you are who you are, an you will never change and the RNC will die with Bush

This is obviously an opinion piece, so I’ll just feel free to also give my opinion. Rush Limbaugh said a lot of things that a great many Americans are feeling right now, regardless of party. As Mr. Obama has been so eloquently and repeatedly been saying, HE WON! Now is the time to govern~ and for the left progressives to celebrate! Mr. Bush is gone, his policies are gone, and apparently so is the war on terror. The new progressive party, I mean, the Democrats… now have everything they want, so why do they bother worrying about what little ‘ole Rushie says, or what Michael Steele says in response? methinks the left doth protest too much….

    Lololol. Love it!

That’s all I have to say.

  22. Anonymous on July 5, 2009 at 4:56 pm

Although Rush DID say the thoughts of many Americans I think we should all take a step back and review the arguments of both sides.

    Think about it.
