Verizon Wireless Stops Advertising on Glenn Beck

According to Credo Action, Verizon Wireless has become the latest advertiser to dump Glenn Beck. In an email, the group confirmed that the nation’s largest wireless telecommunications network has stopped advertising on Beck’s Fox News program. Even a week of vacation has not completely slowed the steam of the Beck advertiser defections.

Becky Bond, the Political Director for Credo Action said, “I’m delighted to let you know that we received confirmation today that Verizon Wireless is no longer advertising on the Glenn Beck show. ColorOfChange.org has done amazing work to bring national awareness to Beck’s race-baiting commentary on FOX News Channel. In the last few weeks, over 20 companies including Wal-Mart, CVS, Best Buy, and Travelocity have confirmed with ColorOfChange.org that they have ceased advertising on the show or placed Glenn Beck’s program on a “do not air” list.”

This is an interesting development as the brass at Fox News were hoping that a week off would help cool some of the heat Beck generated with his advertisers when he called President Obama a racist. Once again, it is important to point out that Verizon Wireless did not quit advertising on Fox News, but they requested that their ads are not shown during Beck’s show.

The list of blue chip companies that are still with Beck is starting to dwindle, but there are still enough corporate advertisers lining up to get access to Beck’s 2 million viewers a night. I don’t understand why Beck’s supporters consider this boycott censorship, instead of the grass roots democratic movement that it is.

If advertisers don’t want their companies associated with a man who called the president a racist, it is their right to take their dollars elsewhere. Glenn Beck has a right to make inflammatory statements and advertisers have a right not to support his show. This isn’t an Obama conspiracy, or censorship. It is democracy in action.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, no matter how ridiculous it may seems to some. Who says those watching Glenn Beck agree with everything he says? Whether or not they do, aren’t they still consumers? Are their dollars no longer acceptable because they watch a show some don’t like? I personally do not watch the program, but I choose not to do business with a company who feels that someone’s political opinion can make them an unwanted customer.

If Verizon is going to make an ignorant political statement by dropping advertising on Glenn Beck’s show – I will make an informed decision and drop my family’s Verizon service.

I have that right still. Any companies that that doesn’t want my business due to my political stance does not need my dollars any longer. Bullying old folks at town hall meetings, dictating what we can watch on TV, squashing freedom of speech and thought. Then they demand repercussion from any one who dares defy them and say that the GOP is dividing our country, when they are the ones who are doing every thing in there power to start a revolution.

    Verizon –
Everyone knows they respond when it hurts where it counts … In Verizon’s balance sheet …
I will, and I am sure many others as well, in response to Verizon’s support of Glen Beck, no longer support Verizon and will cancel my service with their company … UNLESS… Verizon drops him like a bad habit … AND … I will tell everyone I know and also those whom I don’t know, to CHOOSE ANOTHER and LOSE VERIZON … THAT IS … Unless Verizon DROPS GLEN BECK FOR HIS RACIST HECK … If Verizon chooses Glen Beck then Verizon’s Horizons just got a little smaller. Stick with Sick Beck – What the Heck and Choose to Lose

The last time I checked, the 1st Amendment was still intact. If you don’t agree with a particular program’s view, you can always change the channel. However, the extremists on the left know that isn’t enough, as Glenn Beck alone attracts a larger audience than CNN and MSNBC combined! Beck’s program is second only to another Fox News program, The O’Reilly Factor. Add that fact to the rapidly declining popularity of Obama and his programs in the polls and it is very clear that the extreme views of Color of Change are NOT representative of this nation. It would be a very bad idea for these advertisers to pull out. Obviously more Americans agree with the overall opinions and information presented on Fox than with any other channel, including Glenn Beck.
This article states, “ColorOfChange.org has done amazing work to bring national awareness to Beck’s race-baiting commentary on FOX News Channel.” Really? The founder of that website was arrested in 1992 for inciting riots in Los Angeles and called George Bush a racist by saying that he puposely allowed blacks to die in the aftermath of Katrina. The people associated with that radical website are no strangers to inciting racial slurs of their own. I guess they only get outraged when the slur is supposedly from people on the other side of the political spectrum. Give me a break.
What the left is isn’t outraged, it is scared because they are finally seeing that the real majority in America don’t agree with their radical views. That is why they simply can’t change the channel, instead they have to resort to hype to force companies to resort to censorship. How more un-American can you get than censorship?

that’s what democracy is all about. however, i will be dropping my verizon service as well. it’s not about squelching free speech. it’s about choosing to support businesses that align with my world view. just as many of the posters here would not give money to planned parenthood, i won’t give my money to corporate big shots who work against everything i believe in and practice. now that the republicans are getting a taste of their own medicine, they are screaming foul.

I am so glad that mainstream America is beginning to take a stand against the FOX propaganda machine! There is no network that comes remotely close to airing the deliberate lies and distortions that FOX does every day, all day. I could care less if there was a right-wing, freeper channel that called themselves as such. But for FOX to call itself fair and balanced while instigating a witch-hunt on our president and condemning every move of his administration is unacceptable and SHOULD BE ILLEGAL. News channels should be held to higher ethical behavior just as doctors are bound by ethics to tell patients the truth. Today I read that UPS will no longer advertise on FOX, period. I hope they are the first of many.

Oh come on, nobody, who is sane, really has any respect for Glenn Beck. He is a juvenile buffoon! As far as 1st amendment rights, they do not cover hate speech, which is all that comes out of Beck’s mouth. And if you were a true proponent of free speech, you would fully support anyone who freely expressed their disgust with his racist ramblings. Instead you would like them to just “change the channel”.
Beck is a danger to this country. He is inciting the members of our civilization with the lowest IQ’s to violence and civil unrest.

Yea they are taking a big stand. Fox ratings are higher than anyone else for every tv show and every time slot. Beck’s ratings are soaring. HAHAHA! A lot of the so-called sponsors haven’t bolted and didn’t advertise on his show anyway.

It’s good to see some organized responses to Beck and the other hate-mongers. Guess what–there are still racists, and some even have jobs on TV! Others brought their guns in a show of force to health care town halls. Who were they “protecting” themselves from, anyway? The kids who need their pre-school check ups? The seniors waiting for prescription drug reform?

Kanye’s comments were made in the wake of the Bush administration’s failure to aid Katrina victims in a timely manner, which cost many people their lives. They also didn’t have a particularly long history of aiding the black communities in this country either.

No one has died over health care reform talks. Bit of a difference, there.

Are you people all nuts down there?

I watch in amazement as sources like Fox News, Glen Beck, Ann Coulter, and Sarah Palin make things up, or twist reality beyond recognition, and still, angry mobs go forth and build their opposition to any tiny bit of change on a base of sand.

You compare your leader to Hitler and his policies to Nazi-ism – ask a survivor of the Holocaust whether Obama qualifies.

Yes, I know, as Americans you don’t really give a damn what the rest of the world thinks, but doesn’t it give you pause when the rest of the world mostly, and the western world almost unanimously, thinks extremely highly of your president, and shakes their collective heads in wonder about how you can justify denying a good portion of your population what most of us consider a basic human right, the right to be healthy.

Oh that’s right, a close reading of his bill will expose the “death panels” and the plan to euthanize grandma. (sic) The same majority of you that still think Saddam was behind 911 and had WMDs to justify your 7 year war, Obama is a Kenyan, and Elvis lives!!

Are you people all nuts down there?

Where does most of the world come when it comes to doctors with a specific specialization? How long does it take you to get cancer treatment if it’s spread to other organs up across the border where you are?? How about MRI’s? How about any medical tests? I’m just curious?
How about the parts in the healthcare bill that states that you can’t be readmitted to the hospital within a specific amount of time after being discharged for same problem… UMM Hello… Stroke patients usually have several strokes spaced out…. So does that mean that because I had a stroke yesterday and get discharged 3 days later I have another one I can’t go back in until “someone” ok’s it??? NO NO NO
The issue is the government has NO right to tell me that. That’s just CRAZY. We have MEDICAID AND MEDICARE for those who CANNOT provide for themselves last I checked, and how is that working out? All government run and guess what …they’re struggling….. Get a grip…. So don’t tell me that because I don’t support Heathcare Reform in THIS way I’m denying anyone the right to be healthy! I went with out healthcare for YEARS except for Medicaid. I went out and found me a GOOD job with FULL paid benefits. Not that hard… I only have HS education, and never graduated from college. I don’t even have a place of my own, but I’m by GOD working on it.

Pure BS. Van Jones called Color of Change who called in Sunshine Sachs to put the heat on the advertisers. That’s the government squelching free speech. Nice going for the left… but it still demonstrates the administration will move to squelch free speech. Maybe you win but this is NOT democracy, it’s blackmail. Plenty of conservatives are called racists. You cry baby liberals get one drop of rain on you and you can’t handle it….

Check your facts, the Governor of LA and Mayor of NO told Bush they could take care of their citizens themselves. Nagin left thousands of buses sitting while his citizens waited for help. More whites died in Katrina than blacks so actually Kanye’s comment doesn’t hold water.
