In response to a caller who is a Catholic that is upset about his church’s advocacy of social justice, Beck said, “I want you to know that even some members in my faith where I go church there are members that preach social justice as members, my faith doesn’t, but the members preach social justice all the time. It is a perversion of the gospel. Nowhere does Jesus say hey, if somebody asks for your shirt, give your coat to the government, and have the government give them a pair of slacks. That’s not what Jesus was saying. You want to help out. You help out. It changes you. That’s what the gospel is all about. You, you change it, not having the government dictate.”
I am not an expert on the Bible, but the Jesus he is referring to is someone that I am not familiar with. I wasn’t aware that Jesus was a free market, anti-government conservative. I will leave it to others to post some relevant Bible quotes in the comment section that refute Beck. My question for Mr. Founding Father is when did the government become separate from the social contract? If the majority of people desire a form of social justice, whether it is civil rights, healthcare, or any other issue, according to the social contract which forms the foundation of our entire system, the government is obligated to carry out the will of the people.
It is interesting that a person of the Mormon faith would be calling out progressives for perverting the gospel when according people of other faith, the book of Mormon itself is a perversion of the gospel. (I have no dog in that fight, so please spare the angry emails and comments. I have no issues with anyone’s faith). Beck was doing nothing more than spewing the same Jesus and God were conservatives nonsense that he was probably brainwashed with years ago.
Contrary to what Beck believes, social justice is a good thing. Without social justice women may still not be allowed to vote, and segregation might still be in place. It is fascinating to me that conservatives use Jesus to argue the cruel position that people are not entitled to adequate healthcare. Turning their backs on the most needy in our society is a very un-Christian thing to do, and seems to contradict everything that Jesus stood for.

Just curious – the verses that you quoted – were they not to people? Individual followers? What Beck said was accurate then, YOU personally give to the poor, the needy, the weak. WE as PEOPLE should do those things on our own so the Government isn’t needed or slow the process. Just my $0.02

UDUK, your quote says that he will gather all the nation before him. Yes, he will gather all the people of those nations together for them to be judged but I highly doubt a lowly construct of man such as a bill or law will be used to judge all the people of a nation. What Beck speaks of is INDIVIDUAL giving by the INDIVIDUAL’S own will, not forced redistibution mandated by the government. I know the liberals believe that their cause is just and their motives pure, but I have never seen a government, ancient or modern, tyrannyical or free, that has survived and prospered by taking the fruit of labor from the mouths of the workrs to give to the dependents of the state in order to achieve social justice. Communist Russia, Fascist Italy, and Nazi Germany crumbled upon their idealogical crusades of equality and the people of countries such as Venezula and Cuba suffer from the opressive presence of government in every single aspect of their life. Now, more than ever, Patick Henry’s words ring true, “Mr. President, it is natural to man to indulge in the illusions of hope. If you read the book of Acts and the start of the Christian church, they shared EVERYTHING!!!! the simplest form of socialism! There was even a couple that tried to hide back their possessions and dropped dead! “they gave to those that were in need”‘ read it I’m for real!! A real cool book that I’ve come across is called UnChristian… It tells of the history of the church and the pagan influences in today’s church! The sad part about it is as a Christian I think more people are going to realize when they get to heaven we really didn’t understand the heart of Jesus! Glenn Beck is after ratings and popularity and he will be held accountable for the “false prophet” he is! What is sad to me is people just take what he says for face value and don’t even question it!!!!

Social Justice is more than most methods a very cruel way of redistributing wealth of which is tottally unbiblical. The Bible also states study to show thyself approved. I sugest that all who made these comments do exactly that!!
Really? DO we remember something about the Disciples who gave everything they owned so that the booty could be distributed to the people who needed it?
Acts 2:44-45, where it says, “All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need”. In Acts 4:32-37 it’s said that the Believers did not claim any of their possessions as their own, “but shared everything they had”, and there were “no needy persons among them”. For at that time the believers of the Way of Christ Jesus with the means would “from time to time” sell their lands or houses and give it to the apostles for distribution to those among them in need.
Unbiblical? Yeah right. If Jesus was in control of government there would not be a poor person in the country.

Why is it so bad to use a government as the vehicle for “sharing?” There is self interest ingrained in people, the majority will look after themselves and tend to NOT help. What if the majority of society was so greedy that the generous ones couldn’t sustain the down-trodden? As “bad” as the government seems to some people, our country has grown so large so fast, just hoping people will others may not be realistic anymore.
