Glenn Beck Declares War on the Progressive Movement

January 25, 2010
By

On his radio show today, Glenn Beck took his tactics to a whole new level when he announced that he has declared war on the progressive movement. Beck said, “We’re declaring war, and not on Obama, but on the progressive movement.” Beck, much like al-Qaeda, has now declared war on American citizens.

Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:

Beck said, “Remember last week, I told you these are the times that try men’s souls. We’re declaring war, and not on Obama, but on the progressive movement, and when you declare war on these people, it is going to be till the last person standing. These are revolutionaries, very, very bad movement.”

Besides the political strategy that Glenn Beck is using here, which is to demonize the progressive movement in order to make his own tea party movement more legitimate, Beck is also tapping into an old time stream of American conservative thought.

Liberal and progressives are dangerous, because they try to change things. Conservatives always believe that things were better way back when. The common frame that use is that things were better when they children. Conservatives are afraid of progress, because that means change, and change represents another step away from the, “good old days.”

The conservative definition of reform or progress is always based on looking backwards. Glenn Beck is playing on the conservatives’ fear of progress, and natural need to always feel persecuted and have an enemy. This is actually a very clever political maneuver by Beck designed to both elevate him and his cause. Progressives should that this seriously because this is the direction that Beck is trying to move the GOP towards.

radio and TV is reminding me more and more of Rwanda; dehumanize the other until your side thinks genocide, or more specifically, politicide, is the only solution to get rid of the “cockroaches” who do not agree with you.

Bending to accommodate hate in order to avoid denigration of the first amendment is part of how we insure our rights are protected, but there is a clear intent for the first and an attending responsibility, esp for those with a large platform.

The over-simplification of intent, and even glossing over of intent, is part of the problem here. And I don’t mean intent of the speaker of hate. America is a young country, who hasn’t faced a Hitler on her own soil. Those countries who have faced such evil are much more aware of the power of hate and the subtleties involved in protecting their citizens from the inherent dangers of propagandized hate.

At some point, America will have to evolve into a grown up country who can handle these distinctions without falling prey to the screaming Poujdadists waving their hatriot flags who can’t read or think, and think their “freedoms” mean they can spew garbage at anyone they want whilst holding an armed grenade and no one should object.

I am an elitist; I’d like the smartest people in the room to make and interpret the law.

Instead we have a SCOTUS of judicial activism for regression and repression and a DOJ stacked with fundies.

And now this. Glenda leading his revolution of emoting brain-dead zombies.

You can always tell what progressives (neologism for “libtards”) are doing by observing how they accuse the right. In this case Mr. J. Measley (a name no doubt referring to his IQ) claims conservatives have a need to feel persecuted and have an enemy. What even slightly rational man could say, with a straight face, that progressives’ protests are based on anything other than claims of persecution and oppression? Some lies are too obvious for even a good liar to utter.

You officially suck at trolling. Buh-bye.

    you misspelled crap, sir.

In “Con”, that’s “KRAP” aka, “KARP” as in to whine incessantly about things you know nothing about, use words like “libtard” in a desperate attempt to sound witty and clever even as you regurgitate a word provided to you by someone only one breathe smarter than you and of course, you know what the “k” stands for.

    Have a good day.

Ohhhhhh Nooooooooo…the right wing extremists are violent. They are declaring war against us booo hooo. They are going to march in the streets and kill us all! And Beck is going to lead them.

That worked for ya last time you tried it? Worked so well that you are going to try it again?

    Yeah… Good luck with that.

Yea when nut jobs bring guns to public meets that a case for violence and as for Bleck declaring war well anyone who follows him is a terrorist so again violence is the call to order it seems all the right can do is threaten and bully it time to call it what it is violent acts of terrorism.

doesn’t serve you well, as you have no real point. Bluster as replacement for facts doesn’t fly here.

Facts are that the DHS has already identified right wing extremists as the largest threat of domestic terrorism at this time in our country.

Spewing a lot of garbage does nothing to dispute this fact; rather, you have only added fuel to the fire. Your post exemplifies the problem exactly. So, thanks for that.

DO yourselves and your country a favor and pull your money from your large bank and close the account, then re-deposit into a credit union or a small bank. The big banks have scr*wed us, now it’s OUR turn!

  10. Oldsun on January 26, 2010 at 10:59 am

I already have a credit union account the problem is to belong to most credit unions you need to have membership in some org. There are a few that only require membership in the local community but do to laws a federal regulations you have to provide proof and sign your life away this is because of the S&L crisis the banks afraid of losing membership had the federal government put restrictions on credit unions. The reason I am telling you this is now is the time to contact you representatives and have this changed back to a free market economy like the right-wingers keep saying that it is.
