Fox News Forgets Bush Labels Afghanistan Obama’s War

August 8, 2010
By

Fox News’ projection of the Bush administration’s failures continued today on FNC’s America’s News HQ, when the network not so subtly prefaced a story on Afghanistan by referring to it as, “the President’s war.” Here is a reminder to Fox, the war in Afghanistan started on October 7, 2001 under George W. Bush, not Barack Obama.

Media Matters:

FNC’s Julie Banderas wasted no time in delivering their Foxaganda to likely mostly clueless audience, “Topping the news this hour, new concerns about the president’s war as civilian and military deaths in Afghanistan on the rise, as opposition to the nine year old war grows. A former Secretary of State on what the White House needs to do.”

Surprise, surprise the Fox News characterization of Obama leading an unpopular in Afghanistan that was his idea is deceptive and inaccurate. The implication of the FNC intro was that it was somehow Obama’s fault that the Afghanistan war is unpopular. However, American confidence in the war in Afghanistan has been on the decline since the summer of 2008. The war in Afghanistan is Obama’s problem because he inherited it. He didn’t create it. Obama is the person now responsible for the war, but it was George W. Bush’s mismanagement and neglect of Afghanistan in favor of Iraq that created this mess.

Historically speaking, Vietnam is not remembered as Richard Nixon’s war. It is still known as LBJ’s war. Obama is responsible for finding a sensible American way out of Afghanistan, but this war is not his. Those who say it is are projecting the failures of George W. Bush onto Barack Obama. Obama didn’t cause the war in Afghanistan, and he didn’t make the war in Afghanistan unpopular. It is interesting how Fox News has become anti-war when it is no longer a Republican Commander in Chief. Fox News has weaved a noose of lies around the neck of this president. We are seeing a daily lynching of facts disguised as a news network all in the name of the ideological quest of returning the GOP to power.

Great post, Jason. The hubris of Fox and the Right grows by the day. How about instead of trying to blame everyone else for their failures, they own up to them? That’s what a Party with (yes, I just called Fox a Party) any kind of integrity and a real platform does. Just like human beings — no one trusts you if you can’t own up to your mistakes and be accurate about events and your memory of them.

There aren’t words anymore for Fox. But one can only hope that Americans are tired of the hate they drum up over there. We need to be married to the truth, not ideology. That is the only way out of this mess. And by we, I mean the left and the right.

    ENOUGH.
