CNN managed to track down Christine O’Donnell for a minute to ask her about CREW’s heavily documented allegations that she is a crook. When asked if she was a crook, O’Donnell went part Bill Clinton and part Richard Nixon by answering, “I am positive we have been ethical. I personally have not misused campaign funds.”
Melanie Sloan, CREW’s Executive Director said, “Christine O’Donnell is clearly a criminal, and like any crook she should be prosecuted. Ms. O’Donnell has spent years embezzling money from her campaign to cover her personal expenses. Republicans and Democrats don’t agree on much these days, but both sides should agree on one point: thieves belong in jail not the United States Senate.”

In their complaint with both the FEC and the Delaware U.S. Attorney’s Office CREW accused O’Donnell of, “Using campaign funds for personal living expenses. By misusing campaign funds, Ms. O’Donnell committed the crime of conversion; by lying about her expenditures on forms she filed with the FEC, she committed false statements; and by failing to include the campaign funds she misappropriated as income, she committed tax evasion.”
Those are some serious charges, and one would think that the invisible O’Donnell would have pretty strong reply, but when CNN caught up with her, she did what every modern Republican does, she attacked the credibility of the source, “Why are you listening to a liberal organization in the first place?” Apparently O’Donnell has never heard of the non-partisan CREW which targets corruption among Democrats like Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters, and conservatives like Mitch McConnell and John Ensign.
Okay, so the whole smearing CREW thing didn’t work, what else does she have? It is at this point where O’Donnell got all Bill Clinton, it all depends on what the definition of is is by saying, “I am positive we have been ethical. I personally have not misused campaign funds.” We? There is no, “we” here, Christine. The allegations are against you. It is pretty clear that O’Donnell is about to pull a page from the Sarah Palin playbook and blame the nearest fall guy or gal.
While media is distracted by the shiny shiny witchcraft video, they are missing the real story here. Christine O’Donnell is yet another right wing grifter who has attached herself to the easy marks of the Tea Party. O’Donnell is a special level of corrupt. She is a real amateur though as most of the classic Republican criminals from Dick Cheney to Richard Nixon at least had enough savvy to cover up their crimes. O’Donnell is a small time pick pocket who managed to lift a platinum card. These allegations are not baseless. The sworn affidavits disprove that, and Christine O’Donnell really has no defense against these charges, and it would be fitting if her grift to riches story concluded with her behind bars.
