Rush Limbaugh: The Heat Wave Sweeping America Is A Government Conspiracy

July 20, 2011
By

Rush Limbaugh claims there is no heat wave, just a government conspiracy to make us think that it is hot.

Here is the audio from Media Matters:

Limbaugh said, “And they’re playing games with us on this heat wave again. Even Drudge. Drudge getting sucked in here. Gonna be 116 in Washington. No it’s not. It’s going to be like 100, maybe 99. The heat index manufactured by the government to tell you what it feels like when you add the humidity in there, 116. When’s the last time the heat index was reported as an actual temperature. It hasn’t been, but it looks like they’re trying to get away with doing that now. 116.”

Rush said this just normal weather, “Drudge is just linking to other people reporting this. He’s not saying it. I don’t want to misunderstand, but he’s linking to stories which say 116 in Washington. No. It’s what 100, 97, 99? It’s going to top out at 102, 103. It does this every year. We have this. There’s a heat dome over half the country. Midwest it’s moving East, and it happens every summer. It happens every summer.”

Limbaugh then joked that if Washington, DC wants to cool down, they should have Al Gore hold a global warming conference there.

According to Limbaugh, the heat wave is all part of giant government conspiracy to make people think that it is hotter than what it is in order to get them to believe that climate change is real. Limbaugh thinks this kind of heat wave happens every year, but it doesn’t. According to the National Weather Service 1,000 heat records have been broken across the United States in the past month.

This heat wave is not the usual summer weather. As far as the heat index is concerned, it has been around since 1979. It is not some new tool to convince people that climate change is real. The heat index is not being substituted for the temperature in news reports. If you go to the National Weather Service’s website and click on a local forecast, the heat index is not even mentioned. The Weather Channel’s website lists both the temperature and the heat index.

There is no vast government conspiracy to make the heat wave seem hotter. This is a real and unprecedented weather event. Since Rush Limbaugh’s political ideology will not allow him to acknowledge that there might be something to this whole climate change thing, he has to explain it away with a silly conspiracy theory.

By the end of the week Rush Limbaugh will be blaming Obama and his top secret weather machine for the heat, because there is no home for reality in the right wing mind.

the past three or four years here in Knoxville have been hotter than ever but fortunately 99% of the people understand what a heat index is.

this is rush making himself silly again

    • DAVID BRYSON on July 20, 2011 at 9:10 pm

Rush thinks this is normal because he is always surrounded by his own HOT AIR.

  2. Cathy on July 20, 2011 at 5:38 pm

Rush Limbaugh is an IDIOT! How can anyone listen to his garbage? And to think he makes a living spouting this BS!

    • Dr. Ron on July 22, 2011 at 6:22 pm

I used to teach critical thinking to corporate executives before retiring, but even if one doesn’t even know how to spell “logic”, it should occur to people that if what Rush says about “heat index” is true, then “wind chill factor” must be a government conspiracy to DENY climate change/global warming. If ignorance is bliss, Rush and his “dittoheads” must be in a perpetual state of ecstasy.

  3. Larry on July 20, 2011 at 5:45 pm

Rush the drugster sits on his fat a** all day in air conditioning. Of course, for him there is no heat wave. What about those poor and elderly people who cannot afford air conditioning? Oh, that’s right, according to Rush they don’t deserve it. The elderly are especially vulnerable during these heat waves, but of course, Rush has no heart to care. What a fat bag of hot air!

    • Mark Bousquet on July 20, 2011 at 6:11 pm

Rush and his class believe that they and only they are deserving enough to survive the coming onslaught. Saving up all that $$$ to buy their ticket to the New World Order.

    • Joe on July 20, 2011 at 11:47 pm

That’s because those old codgers should have worked hard enough to have saved enough money to anticipate heat waves in the future! Gosh, didn’t they have the forsight to see this coming, and now they have the never to ask us to help save their lives. Are you kidding me? Yes I am kidding now! LImbaugh is a joke, and really should be eliminated. It’s time that he suddenly dies of a heart attack, in his sleep, a car crash, something that was planned , but looks like an accident. :)

  4. Colleen on July 20, 2011 at 5:45 pm

Rush is a lunatic…who craves money…seems to be a lot of that going around…what do they serve them folks at those Koch banquets?

This man should be in a straight jacket. He is certifiable and a liar and anyone who believes this nonsense is deserving of what ever happens to them. Don’t teabaggers and wingnuts think for themselves anymore? My gosh, since when did Rush limpbaugh and his ilk become their go to guide for information?
I know…those were two rhetorical questions.

Is there an echo in here?

  15. zumpie on July 20, 2011 at 7:12 pm

Well, I’ll only give Rush this: in PDX we don’t feel hot. But that’s because La Nina has given us a record setting cool, wet (FYI, it doesn’t rain in the PNW in summer) spring and summer. But that’s a completely different thing. And I’m sure La Nina’s an evil big gubmint conspiracy, too.

    • Microbru on July 21, 2011 at 6:27 pm

aaaaah, don’t tell people that! We have enough people moving here already. Zumpie lies. It rains. All the time. Even indoors. Drowning in rain is the 2nd leading cause of death here (first is caffeine overdose)

  16. Basheert on July 20, 2011 at 7:12 pm

And of course, it actually hit 118 down here on July 2nd. The REAL 118 – not the “feels like” one. We were actually 122 – one June. It was pretty awesome.

Now we (on the other hand) are having massive dust storms (of biblical proportions). We’ve had 3 in the last 2 weeks (I assume many of you have seen these on the national news). Because of Valley Fever (a fungus living in the soil) it is expected more people will contract this illness – and in fact, cases should be showing up starting this week.

We are a desert – but we are extremely dry – even for us. Fortunately we are all equipped for “excessive” heat. Our power companies do not turn off people’s power for nonpayment in the summer.

But it’s pretty awful – and now we have some humidity – so it’s like a hot (106) blanket…

It really is different if you are used to these temps – and are equipped for them as well.

    • Janice Arenofsky on July 21, 2011 at 5:19 pm

Rush should come to Arizona and sample some of our heat and newly fierce dust storms. Then he might see that climate change is happening. He also might get valley fever, which is really quite serious (like global warming). But, as we know, if you’ve got your head in the sand, you won’t be able to react to crises when they happen. And in Arizona, if your head is in the sand, you run a big risk of valley fever, too. For more info, go to http://www.arizonavictimsofvalleyfever.org

  17. Scott Smith on July 20, 2011 at 7:15 pm

If just one elderly person listens to Rush on this, and expires from the heat…. To me this seems criminal. The extreme weather warnings are not put out lightly, and are meant to save lives.

  18. Ingarose on July 20, 2011 at 8:07 pm

Rush puts out so much hate energy towards practically everybody that it does return to him like a boomerang> Despite his billions he must be quite miserable. His wives keep leaving him, he has no children, his health is not good, and he needs viagra.

  19. Reynardine on July 20, 2011 at 8:35 pm

In 1979, I had valley fever, after travelling through the San Joaquin Valley in a mild dust storm. I was sick from that and its complications from New Year’s Eve, 1978, to Mayday, 1979, and that was in Florida, where dust storms were unknown. An epidemic of valley fever in Arizona could reach disaster level. This isn’t anything to, uh, blow off.

    • CW in LA on July 20, 2011 at 9:39 pm

Naw, wind chill, like any kind of cold weather anywhere, proves there.s no global warming.

Here’s a thought. Everybody should inundate him with copies of their electric bills for the summer – and ask him if all the energy corporations are in on the conspiracy. If so, he should demand that the energy companies pay us back the difference between last summer and this one!

  23. richard ralston on July 21, 2011 at 1:59 am

What a bunch of total crap just because rush gets money from these corporate supporters he “thinks” he has to justify and rationalize everything and blame it on this administration. this is simply a republican ploy as usual to try and make political hay out of a completely scientific observation. As they do with most all other situations. Deny global warming and climate change just to get another subsidy out of the government for big oil. which is raping this country anyway much like the GOP. I suppose it comes from being both a talk show personality and a recovering addict that all of the justification and rationalization must come into play,as well as using it towards the benefit of grist for the mill of his show.I recognize this because I’m a substance abuse minister and recovering addict as well.

    • Reynardine on July 22, 2011 at 11:22 am

Research indicates there is an actual, physiological addiction to meanness and rage, too.

  24. K on July 21, 2011 at 5:46 am

Yea, tell that to my Dad who is a mail carrier and has to walk in this heat every day.

DUH heat index is “not an actual temperature” – because then it wouldn’t be called a heat index.. it would be called the temperature.

There is a lot of humidity where I live, and the heat index makes perfect sense. You could have it be 100 in a very dry place and not even sweat that much, but 100 degrees in a very humid place you sweat a lot more. There is more water vapor in the air, which can displace oxygen, so your body has to work harder because its working with less oxygen. Therefore, you sweat more and feel hotter. It is not really about a “real temperature” – it’s about how the human body reacts to humidity.

Rush getting mad at science, what else is new.

  25. Bulldawg on July 21, 2011 at 7:55 am

Studies show that methane emmissions from both ends of Limbaugh are a significant cause of Global Warming.

Limbaugh is a certifiable idiot on his best day, but now he is joining the other global warming deniers and sounding even more ridiculous into the bargain by blaming it on the government. He is just as idiotic and incendiary as Glenn Beck, and both of them serve the GOP’s purpose of drumming up hatred, fear, and ignorance among their lemmings.

Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) – Puppet Master of Deficit Shell Game

A recent editorial by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) in USA TODAY titled Opposing view: Just say no to higher taxes

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/opinion/editorials/2011-07-04-opposing-view-debt-limit-taxes_n.htm

speaks volumes regarding the Obama administration’s misjudgment with the Fiscal Commission. Demands for the Commission arose from the 2008 book/movie I.O.U.S.A. highlighted: the Leadership, trade, savings and budget deficits; the first three being the most middle class relevant and root causes of the budget deficit, the tip of the iceberg. The ATR’s pledge signers (not permitted to negotiate in good faith) limit the focus only to spending, throwing middle class relevant deficits under the bus and allow ATR to be the Puppet Master of a deficit shell game.

Well, let’s hope that none of Rush’s bonehead listeners take him seriously and go running around out in this mess.

And while I’m at it — when does Rush Limbaugh lose all credibility with this kind of delusional horsesh1t? It is HOT AS HELL OUTSIDE and it is MOST CERTAINLY A REAL DAMN HEATWAVE. Maybe Rush is trying to kill off his elderly audience by making them ignore the extreme weather.

Here in Wisconsin, we’re seeing insects that used to breed only in the southern states. We’ve had an influx of cicada-eating ground wasps. I’d never seen them until 3 years ago. Now they’re all around our neighborhood. The weather is changing. Even Rush won’t be happy when our farm belt is too hot to produce the crops that our economy is based upon- corn & soybeans. The scientific community is clear on climate change. A smart society recognizes what’s coming, and takes appropriate action.

  45. Mikeyhatesit on July 22, 2011 at 11:24 am

After the heat-related death of a West Point cadet, does Rush still think all this is made up? Limbaugh made the typical hack comic jokes about global warming during the cold days of winter, which only demonstrates the typical ignorance of temperature versus climate. People die yearly because of temperature extremes, yet the Right Wing finds ways to blame the victims (and the current political boogeyman) for problems in our infrastructure that punish people for being poor.

Rush Limbaugh needs to be placed on a high platform in a muumu, so he can provide some shade for us down here in South Florida, where the humidity makes the heat just cling to you. Is there any way to affix, Hannibal Lecter style, a windmill to his face. He might keep producing hot air, but at least his motormouth would produce electricity. And at last he’d be contributing something good to the country, since he reneged on his promise to move out.

I can dream, can’t I? Rush does, with his drug-fueled flights of fantasy about how scientists are using their power to promote a liberal agenda on behalf of a presidency made invalid because a woman still has civil rights in this day and age.

Way to go, Rush. How many people have to die before you understand the difference between ideology & facts?

  46. felo on July 22, 2011 at 1:24 pm

Wow, Rush Limbaugh said the high temperatures are a government conspiracy—I feel much cooler now. So what is the governor of Texas praying for? What Rush is really saying is: “all thermometers are wrong and mine is the only thermometer that is correct”. Being the man of faith that Rush says he is, I’m sure that Mr. Rush has great faith and he is relying on the slightest infinitesimal possibility that most of his radio followers cannot read a thermometer.

  47. Critical Mass on July 25, 2011 at 3:02 pm
