On Fox News this evening, Sarah Palin accused Barack Obama of stealing the 2008 election.

When Bret Baier asked Palin why Republicans aren’t campaigning and raising money she answered, “The point is our president should be buckling down and trying to fund solutions to the challenges facing our country…You know I do not want to believe that the American political process is going to come down to who has the most money. If that’s the case, count me out. Count out anybody who comes from the middle class, not having those strings tied to big corporate entities and the lobbying firms, and all that influence and in Obama’s case last go around potentially some foreign money, or monies that we never did see being accounted for. Somebody like me, I would never be able to compete in an environment like that. If truly the American people were going to concede that that’s all it’s about is money. I’m not going to believe that.”
Baier followed up by asking Sarah Palin if she was saying that the FEC is going to find that foreign money got into the Obama campaign. Palin answered by accusing Obama of stealing the 2008 election, “Am I wrong to bring up the fact, and maybe Bret at this point, you have more information than I do on where a lot of those dollars were that were unaccounted for. Remember we saw much proof of a lot of the contributions to Obama’s campaign credit card contributions under fake names, and addresses that perhaps weren’t even real addresses in the US, you know I certainly hope that we won’t give up on making sure that we have free and fair elections. Not just Obama’s, heck some on the GOP too, on the GOP side. Let’s make sure rules are being followed. We are a land of laws.
What Palin was insinuating with her little free and fair elections remark was that 2008 was not a fair election. Sarah Palin believes that the election was stolen from her by Barack Obama and his foreign money.
We are a land of laws, and Sarah Palin has always had a bit of trouble with following the law. Whether it was Troopergate or her illegal legal defense fund, Sarah Palin political career is full of conflicts with the law.
This audit is nothing special. According to Roll Call, every presidential campaign since 1976 has been audited. As the Obama campaign’s deputy press secretary put it, “The FEC is conducting a routine review — as is true with the McCain Campaign, the Romney Campaign and many others — to determine if they have any questions with the information reported. Given that there was an historic number of contributors and contributions — nearly four million and over nine million respectively — this takes time.”
Republicans and the RNC have been floating the conspiracy theory that Obama was being funded by foreign donations since the summer of 2008. In fact there was even a hoax email floating around claiming that Maureen Dowd reported that Obama’s Internet donations were from foreign sources. Palin has taken it to a whole new level by claiming that Obama stole the election with foreign money.
Obama’s Internet fundraising operation was astounding. The Washington Post reported, “Obama’s online operation, broke down the numbers: 3 million donors made a total of 6.5 million donations online adding up to more than $500 million. Of those 6.5 million donations, 6 million were in increments of $100 or less. The average online donation was $80, and the average Obama donor gave more than once.”
Sarah Palin’s comments are the bitter sour grapes of a sore loser. Palin’s ego will not let her accept the fact that America rejected her in 2008. The election wasn’t stolen from her. She lost it by giving terrible interviews to Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric. It was during this campaign that Palin became the unpopular politician in America, and now she is reduced to going on Fox News and whining about how the election was stolen from her.
Also in the interview Palin laid the groundwork for her excuse for not running by claiming that she is middle class and can’t afford it. The idea that the multi-millionaire Palin is middle class and would be priced out of the 2012 GOP field is laughable. Sarah Palin is the only person in the potential 2012 GOP field who can raise money.
I doubt that even her most devoted fans are going to buy the excuse that Sarah can’t afford to run. She can afford to run, but is she willing to give up those $100,000 a pop speeches to do so?
Her sit down with Bret Baier confirmed that although we are heading into 2012, Sarah Palin can’t let go of 2008.

You’ve hit on something. Many of these reactionary women look sharp when young; they hit a certain age, and suddenly they look like old alkies. The few I’ve known did, in fact, become alkies.
I also think that the ugliness of the inner woman is increasingly reflected in her outer appearance. She looks like she is aging none too gracefully, which is probably one of the reasons that her star is fading. Of course, the main reason for that is that she has been exposed as an empty barrel that makes a lot of noise.
I just realized that the RW Haters HAVE stolen the election in 2008. They are “swift boating” Obama since the election. He gets no minute of peace and prosperity because bomblets of paranoia, innuendo and blatant lies are being spewed daily. The GOP and Faux Noise are so disappointed that they haven’t caused an assassination attempt yet! How long does it take to rile up some armed nut case? I so wish someone in Mrs P’s entourage would explain to her that the Star of David, like the cross of Christianity, is not a piece of costume jewelery to throw on simply for effect. When I was a deal younger, I joined a Renaissance re-creation group and spent my scant free time in law school duking it out with six-pound broadswords. It’s an enormously beneficial release of hostilities. So is jiu-jitsu. Currently, such joys are beyond me, but splitting logs, pounding fence posts into the ground, and hacking at lianas with a machete all help.
