The American Political Fundamentalist: Who They Are and Why They Hate Obama

Don’t look now, but the haters haven’t gone anywhere. Despite Barack Obama’s centrist agenda, they still display nooses down south and hang him in effigy. People still get worked up over where he was born. They are still convinced he’s intent upon nothing less than overthrowing the entire United States government, but who are they and why do they hate? Continue reading

An American Nightmare: One Family’s Mortgage Crisis Story

My life in the house I’ve been living in for 25 years is on the line and I feel utterly helpless. I’ve been involved in what seems to me to be an eternal process of loan modification, and as I’ve been massacred by that same process very recently, the trauma of that colors my fears today. Continue reading

An Open Letter to Congressman Joe Wilson

This is an open letter to Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) regarding his lack of respect for the presidency, ” We know what you all are up to — it doesn’t matter what this President proposes. It would appear that as far as you all are concerned, the Presidency is a “White Males Only” Country Club. ” Continue reading

Growing Progressively More Frustrated With Obama

I hate to say this, but I’m getting a little frustrated with my President. And I’m damned frustrated with my Congress. While I think President Obama’s wonderful nature and willingness to compromise are charming qualities, I think it essential for him to stand firm when it comes to REAL healthcare reform in our country Continue reading

Why We Must Save the Public Option

The Silly Bully Boys of the U.S. Senate

As last week dragged on, the silly bully boys of the U.S. Senate, seemingly without a clue, made an unwitting and witless spectacle of themselves with their brain-dead, slightly demented, endlessly looped and loopy questioning of Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Continue reading

Republicans Must Apologize For Calling Nancy Pelosi a Traitor

Well, what do you know? After a few months spent watching every Republican imaginable verbally thrashing the Speaker of the House for stating that the CIA had misled Congress, it seems that she was right., and I don’t believe I’ve heard any apologies from Republicans. Continue reading

Dick Cheney: A Cancer on the U.S. Body Politic

I believe that Dick Cheney is a rapidly metastasizing cancer upon the body politic. President Obama has been very gracious — perhaps too gracious regarding the matter of that old Dick. Mr. Cheney is unrepentant regarding the issues of torture and wars of choice, and utterly convinced of the rightness of his actions. He thinks Mr. Obama is weak, effete, an “elite”. At the bottom of his heart there is only fear. Continue reading

A Liberal’s View of the Republican National Convention: Day 3

ImageI got home a little late tonight and got in just as Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett Packard, is speaking. I’ll leave her “comments” alone as I didn’t see all of it. I’ll start tonight’s “running diary” of the GOP convention with the first speaker I had the opportunity to fully observe.

8:08pm—Mitt Romney’s on stage. Wait, what? Romney’s on stage? Who decided to let him out of the Christian fundamentalist doghouse?

A Liberal’s View of the Republican National Convention: Days 1 and 2

ImageThe convention is about to begin, and the cameras pan the conventioneers. First thing I notice: the audience is all white (actually, hard to miss that one).
