Fox News Begs People to Support Chick-fil-A
On Fox and Friends Steve Doocy tried to rally the anti-gay, but pro-chicken troops by begging them to fight against the left’s intolerance towards Chick-fil-A.
Here is the video from Media Matters:
Doocy said, “Remember, it wasn’t just supporting Dan Cathy for his Christian values…We’ve got free stuff for breakfast today. People not only supporting Chick-Fil-A’s Christian values, and they are closed on Sundays. But also just the CEO’s right to say what he thinks. You know, a lot of people wound up going. I was reading in the New York Post today (also owned by Rupert Murdoch) about how a lot of people went over to New Jersey to go to Chick-fil-A, and it wasn’t to support the family values thing, and it wasn’t to support the family values thing, but to support his right to say something, because so many on the left are so intolerant. You gotta be able to say in this country what you think without being punished.”
Fox News, with their Chick-fil-A prominently product placed in view of the camera, is calling the left intolerant while supporting a company that is advocating for discrimination against gays. Fox was arguing that the left is intolerant for wanting equal treatment for all.
Doocy’s comments were a both a groveling plea and an attempt to gain support for Chick-fil-A by moving the conversation away from conservative bigotry towards gays.
This is the third different storyline that Fox News has tried in order to save Chick-fil-A. Just yesterday, Chick-fil-A was a First Amendment issue. On Monday, the boycott was un-American. What can be taken from this shift in the Fox News/Chick-fil-A strategy is that nothing is working. The Chick-fil-A brand has been seriously damaged, and continues to harm itself more with by allying with Fox News.
It is never ever a good idea for any business to align themselves closely with partisan politics. In Chick-fil-A’s case it is even worse because more Americans support gay marriage than oppose it. Chick-fil-A is becoming a martyr in Republican circles, but by a margin of 51%-40% Independents support gay marriage. According to Pew, the support for gay marriage has even risen 5 points among Republicans.
Chick-fil-A’s alliance with Fox News reeks of a desperate company resorting to even more desperate measures. As people continue not to eat at Chick-fil-A, the pleas from Fox News will continue to grow more urgent.
If only the right had as much passion for Mitt Romney as they do Chick-fil-A, maybe they wouldn’t have to distract themselves with gay hating chicken.

It has been through watching the comical gloating of conservatives over “long lines” at Chick-fil-A yesterday that I finally realized that they really don’t have the capacity for critical thinking. They actually believe that they won the war yesterday.
The polls and the the fact that boycotts last longer than one day mean nothing to them. They focus on the claims of the owner, who said they “set records” but hasn’t released the numbers (another conservative problem) yet, and with that, the hordes are off and running into yet another brick wall of fake success that they’ll be drooling about with bombastic pride all day. Even if they did set records on ONE day, that means nothing long term. They sure as heck won’t be expanding as they had planned to, and they might be relegated to the hate land (don’t you remember Jesus throwing stones at the sinners?).
There really isn’t much to say to these people any more. I am actually beginning to think they might be suffering from collective brain damage or contagious cell death.

I supported Chick-fil-A yesterday. I did not cast a stone at a sinner one, but I did support the right of his belief on marriage. Just as I support your belief and right to express it. As for my sickness, I am feeling just fine. You on the other hand are suffering from a disease that if not taken care of will result in eternal punishment. Sin is your disease and Jesus Christ is the cure. Thats my belief.

LOL. I am sure it is. You have determined that we are sinners and will face Hell and you still don’t get why your beliefs are so offensive, even though they make you into God. You presume God is as small minded as you. That offends many of us who don’t share your vision of God and Jesus. You say you didn’t throw stones, which tells me that you miss the metaphor completely, as you then proceeded to throw verbal stones of accusations and condemnation.

Steve, what about the other religions? They are no less valid than yours except when your xtian fundies want to kill them.
You still dont get the fact they are telling YOU that you do not have the right to free speech unless you are wealthy

The only satisfying thing about comments like this is knowing that there really aren’t any pearly gates waiting for any of you folks that have vastly over-inflated egos and huge superiority complexes, and you all are completely wasting your lives basing them off of fairy tales and a book filled with stories stolen from countless other religions.

You might be surprised to read that I agree with you 100%; the owner of Chick-Fil-A has freedom of speech, as all Americans do (as all human beings should), especially when I tell you I’m an LGBT individual. It might NOT surprise you to learn, then, that I support a boycott of his products… just as I might have declined to ride the bus in Selma, Alabama during that boycott.
I won’t support this company because a) the hormone-forced growth of chickens so they get plumper, faster, is unhealthy for human beings, and I believe responsible business owners have an obligation to public health, especially when feasting on public dollars; and b) the profits the owner makes – which are considerable, and even higher since yesterday’s marketing feat – go directly to organizations which try to ensure that some Americans are denied their civil rights.
The whole thing has been blown up into some giant hate-fest, on both sides, with one side hatin’ the gays, and the other hatin’ the anti-gays. I don’t hate you. I don’t even KNOW you. How can I hate you? But the way the media is playing this… those are our assigned roles. And for them, the show must go on; ratings depend on it.
Peace.

It was not about his 1st amendment right of expression!! He can say whatever the heck he wants. But you people on the right! You twist everything to justify your awful hate FOR EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE FOR THE GOP! Chick-fil -a donates money to support hate groups which threaten the freedoms of LGBT citizens. I don;t want my money to go to anything like that. My gawd ..they encourage you to hate people just because they are gay and the man stands there and judges them! And still expects them to eat at his hatefilled place of businesss?? Such fake self serving hateful xtians. If he knew the Word of God he would know “If you judge in my name I will judge you 10 fold! So be it…let them have their Full-a-C#@#-chicken!

The reality of it is, people are preoccupied with LBGT people because they don’t understand why they are comfortable in their own skin… Unlike most people who seem to feel uncomfortable around others that are different… Kinda tends to make me believe they feel inadequate to the LBGT people…
Most people out in public with family or friends might make a comment to their group if they see a gay couple, but they usually leave it at that… BUT, get them in a group of strangers and they are as mean and nasty as the rest…
Why is that… How come a whole group of people can get together and bash, yet if you take the majority of the group as individuals, they wouldn’t dare say anything or act like that…
Seems to show that the people who are for groups are just shallow individuals with no backbone unless they have a group to hide in…
It sure is funny how everyone is all for the constitution and equal rights, until a mob stirs them up… Then your rights only matter if you believe the same as them…
That is why these people againt the LBGT community can’t win… They are ashamed of themselves and nothing but bashing can make them feel better abot themselves… Where as the LBGT community are not ashamed of who they are and spend most of their time standing alone because of it…
And people wonder what is wrong with this country when equal rights seem to only apply to certain belief systems…

And don’t forget to mention the study that found, in the majority of cases, homophobia is also accompanied by a distinct arousal from the same sex. In other words, the study found most homophobes are turned on by members of the same sex, ie, they’re self-loathing homosexuals themselves.

UGH. When, oh WHEN will these people realize IT’S NOT ABOUT HIS FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS! Nobody is disputing his right to hate whoever he wants and to express that hate whenever or wherever he wants.
WHAT IT IS ABOUT, however, is the fact that Chic Fil-A has donated at least $5 million to hate groups like the FRC that are lobbying to get homosexuality criminalized, that lobbied Congress to *not* condemn the death penalty for gays in Nigeria, who want to completely legalize discrimination against gays in their jobs and homes, who want to remove all rights gay parents have with regards to their children, etc, etc.
People are boycotting Chic Fil-A because to give them money is to support hate organizations. It’s not about their COO’s right to say he hates gays.
My god, the blatant ignorance of these people is truly staggering.

Please please Fox people eat more chick a fil. Eat more artery clogging, MSG filled junk food. Please eat a lot and when you get sick and can’t afford health care because your republican right wing masters did away with the affordable care act then you have only one person to blame, yourself. So yum yum eat up put that unhealthy food and get sick.

Next time a celebrity criticizes a Republican in any way, shape or form, and the tools on Fox and Stooges bitches about it, we need to just show an outpouring of support to that celebrity and call it “exercising our free speech”.
Why is it “an issue of free speech” when the left boycotts an organization like CFA, but it’s “voting with my pocketbook/wallet” when the boycott is aimed at the left?
It’s time we publicized the hell out of the right wing’s double-standards with regards to boycotting. Then make sure that bluff-calling goes viral. It’s high time the real America (those who don’t subscribe to either right wing or left wing ideology) know just how much the right depends on hypocrisy.

Jason,
I saw no begging, so your title is wrong. I am an athiest, but I try to understand those folks that believe in God. Christians, Jews and Muslims don’t disparage gays because they don’t like gays pesonally (well, maybe some do). They do it because their god tells them it’s the right thing to do. They don’t believe in god the way you and I might believe that the St. Louis Cardinals are a great team (I’m from St. Louis). The core of their being accepts god as their Savior, Light, …what ever. So when they come out and say things about gay people. I don’t think they are just hating gays for the sake of hating gays (some are, I’m sure). I think they see it as a way to support their god.
Gay rights offers a great challenge, but also a great opportunity. Tolerance for gay rights is at odds with tolerance for religious beliefs. Respecting both and getting through that conflict as a single nation is the challenge. Learning to see something from two very different perspectives and respecting both, is the opportunity.
In the case of Chick-fil-A (Never eaten there myself), The leader of a company spoke his religious beliefs. Those folks in the country that support Gay marriage, and/or for whom this CEO’s statement was offensive, will not buy a sandwich there anymore. That is the marketplace mechanism to speak your mind. His comments should have been the end of the story, but people took public offense and “stood up for their rights” and spoke against the CEO. Practicing Muslims, Jews and Christians will not change until their god tells them to. Trying to fight that is simply futile. Short of a deportation of all religious people of the “Western Religions”, people in this country will always disagree on this issue. I think we’d all be better served if we could simply agree to disagree. Some peoples’ lifestyles are not what others will be. What you should be spending your energy on is how to live peacefully with that. In my opinion, God will never die.
Now, if your goal is to get rid of religion, that’s a different story. You can demonize them and politicize them all you want…but that will help continue tearing our country apart.
My own solution is not to take it too seriously. I live an alternative lifestyle myself and have been condemned to Hell in any Christian’s mind. It doesn’t bother me, I don’t take it personally. They’re just doing what their god tells them. In my mind, as long as they are not coming to my door with torches, it is just words! (Now you might be thinking….”but coming at your door with torches is next if we don’t do something now” I understand that thought, but I disagree. Showing no tolerance now and turning this into and issue, will only serve to enrage others….THAT could eventually lead to torches. On the other hand, being tolerant now, not reacting at all might actually serve to calm things down and keep them in the “who cares” category.
My advice, lighten up a little, recognize we’re different (and that’s OK) and enjoy life. Take care.

Talk about a contraction in the economy… how many businesses would go under without their Sunday traffic?
Economics is a fine balance. Right now, it’s overbalanced in the direction of the corporations… we need more workers on our end of the teeter-totter or the economic machine won’t run.

So are you saying that whatever is bought on Sunday couldn’t be bought on any of the other 6 days of the week ? Here in GA, you can’t alcohol on Sundays. Hasn’t hurt their profits any.
