2 years ago Fox News called taxing the rich immoral. One Obama reelection later, they support it.
On Fox News Sunday, Bill Kristol floated Fox News’s complete cave on taxing the rich,’It won’t kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires.’
Fox News has gone from calling raising taxes on the wealthy immoral in 2010, .
to one Obama reelection later saying that it won’t hurt the country if we raise taxes on millionaires.
KRISTOL: You need to have a totally vigorous and open debate, I believe. And I don’t think the answer is to be more moderate, nor is the answer to be more conservative. The answer on some issues is going to be fresh thinking, which will be taken as moderate, and some issues actually to be more conservative.
I think we have a huge middle class problem. There, the particular nominee Republicans had was, you know, unfortunate in that respect. Four years after a huge Wall Street crisis, you nominate someone from Wall Street.
But I think honest debate, fresh thinking — leadership in the Republican Party and the leadership in the conservative movement has to pull back, let people float new ideas. Let’s have a serious debate. Don’t scream and yell what one person says. You know what? It won’t kill the country if we raise taxes a little bit on millionaires. It really won’t, I don’t think.
I don’t really understand why Republicans don’t take Obama’s offer to raise taxes for everyone below 250,000…
WALLACE: Or a million?
KRISTOL: Make it a million. Really, the Republican Party is going to fall on its sword to defend a bunch of millionaires, half of whom voted Democratic and half of whom live in Hollywood, and they’re not…
Bill Kristol isn’t just any regular old Fox News talking head. He is a double Rupert Murdoch employee. He is both one of the founders and editors of The Weekly Standard, and a Fox News contributor. Kristol’s remarks today signal a potential shift in the winds over at Fox News.
Kristol’s comments today were an omen that Republicans know that Obama is going to get his way on raising taxes on the wealthy. They’ll still be bluster and noise out of people like Sean Hannity about how the economy will be ruined if we raise taxes on the rich, but Kristol’s remarks can be viewed as Rupert and Roger preparing their audience for something that they know is going to happen.
Of course knowing it is going to happen, and having a few conservatives on to voice support for the idea, won’t stop Fox News from endlessly bashing Obama after taxes are raised on the wealthy.
Post-Obama reelection, it’s a new political landscape out there. The Republican Party’s main propaganda outlet doesn’t like getting their butts handed to them in elections, so you can expect more of these kinds of whispers to keep coming Fox News contributors in the future.
First, Hannity announces that he supports an immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship. Now, Fox is mumbling about supporting more taxes for the rich.

Handwriting on the wall for obstructionists and filibusterers. I really don’t think they can count on reelection if the repeat thelast 2 years and they know it. They couldn’t make Obama a one term president. Be interesting to see what happens.

I say we make Republicans go away for good. They can’t be trusted, not now not ever. We need 20 or 30 years without them. They are liars, as they showed in the last election. They are not patriots and they will do ANYthing say ANYthing for money and power. They are a danger to America and to the American people and if we are very very smart we will eliminate them from government entirely for a few years so that we can undo all of their crimes, and they have WAY more dirt than democrats, and we all know it.

Fox is reacting to a surge in INFORMED people speaking up saying that FOX is a BIG part of the problem. When their viewer ratings started dropping and a huge chunk of ad revenues went missing, they HAD to respond to We-The-People (before We-The-People had to get out the plunger to FORCE the issue where it belongs).
In regards “making Republicans go away” for 20 or 30 years — remember the biblical bit about Moses having to circle around “The Promised Land” for 40 years while the old “toxic meme” geezers all died off… It does happen, and that DOES work — except the PROBLEM is that we NEED a FUNCTIONAL Republican party (NOT the “American Taliban” we’ve got at the moment; see “The Newsroom” on HBO for a STRONG explanation of THAT label) as a viable “opposition party” (See Rachel Maddow for a very succinct explanation WHY for THAT statement too).
The two-party system is DESIGNED to work with opposing “teams” coming up with alternative ideas, and “let the best ideas” battle it out in constructive debate and keep We-The-People moving in PRODUCTIVE directions… Not the obstructionist crap we’ve been getting this last couple of years; filibuster reform IS on the schedule, thank gods.
We are NOT the America we could be, NOT the “Best country in the world” anymore — and we COULD be again. See “The Newsroom” again for THAT speech, and LISTEN to the rapid fire FACTS about WHY we aren’t, and LISTEN to the LAMENT about what we USED to be — and notice the KEY word in that whole presentation was “Informed” (tying back to my beginning).

Fox people still think raising taxes on the rich is immoral.
Billy Kristol does not speech for the others, he speaks for himself.

I’d watch for them going along with President Obama and the Democrats, but then tanking the economy and saying “See, when you tax the rich you destroy the economy!”.
I hope that the short-term greed of the rich keeps them from jumping on that bandwagon (and bringing it about), but I’m not going to hold my breath.

That’s nothing. I heard of a so-called “man of God” (Billy/Franklin Graham) who previously thought that Mormonism was a cult, cut to Rmoney’s nomination – suddendly, he’s ok with it. Go figure.
