Fox News Celebrates Thanksgiving by Mocking the Poor
How else would you expect Fox News to celebrate Thanksgiving other than to mock those who receive food stamps?
Here is the video via Media Matters:
A Fox News/Business panel could see nothing but political motives and conspiracies in Cory Booker’s decision to take the Food Stamp Challenge. After openly speculating that Booker was using the challenge to build up his image for a future presidential run and that Gov. Chris Christie gave Obama a hug in exchange for the president not campaigning against him during his reelection campaign, Fox News contributor Andrea Tantaros said, “I should try it because, do you know how fabulous I’d look. I’d be so skinny. I mean, the camera adds ten pounds.”
About 50 million Americans, including 16.7 million children, live in households where food security is a problem. (Food security is the measurement of a household’s ability to secure essential nutrition.) The fact that millions of Americans go hungry everyday is a source of great fun and humor for the people at Fox News. Fox News conservatives psychologically distance themselves from wondering why so many people have nothing to eat in a nation like ours by blaming the poor for being poor, and the hungry for daring to be hungry.
Hunger and poverty are not partisan political issues. Mayor Booker has already proven himself to be more of a “man of the people” than anyone at Fox News ever has.
After their election defeat Fox News and the Republican Party are trying to dress themselves up as new and improved, but comments like these show that very little has changed with attitudes of the right. The thought of rich people having to pay 4% more in taxes is criminal, but the idea that millions of Americans are going hungry is an opportunity for comedy.
The Republican Party may be disavowing Mitt Romney’s comments about the 47%, but they are living his beliefs every single day.

The question was “Could you live off of $133 a month for food?” and the woman says, “I should try it, I’d look fabulous.” DISGUSTING! I guess that’s more of the high morals and family values from Fox “News”

The irony for me being that our tight budget is half the reason my husband and I are as overweight as we are. When you can only buy things that won’t expire so that you KNOW they’ll last the entire 2 weeks between paychecks, they tend to fattening and packed with preservatives.

What continues to be shocking is why so many follow Fox News. Oh, I know – one must keep aware of the opposition and what they say so we can retaliate. They can be counted on to be deceptive, lie, humiliate many and other evil behaviors. Mocking the poor is a low blow to many who probably following them religiously. I do not directly watch Fox – I just wait for those who are braver than I to interpret them and indirectly I am disgusted.

Those fools have NO idea about food-shopping, obviously. To say nothing of the difficulty some people have finding a supermarket with decent prices and good produce anywhere close to where they live.

On my little news app, I saw the headline, and I wouldn’t even open it up, for fear of throwing my precious Android.
A solitary aged person in this state has to get by on $65 a month in food stamps, which at today’s prices will be gone in one week’s supply of milk, meat, bread, and vegetables. If you’re able to live on rice and legumes, that might stretch for two weeks, but aging and ill people are putting their health at risk like that. Most of us have dooryard citrus trees bearing in the winter, and if you have a little land, patient collards give you greens every month but August, but apartment dwellers are rather stuck for it. I hate to think what families with children are going through…yet Florida is not the worst of states by far.
Goya once etched a cruel scene, where a group of well-dressed gentleman were looking with amusement on famished, ragged peasants almost too weak to stand, saying, “Are they of another species?” I wonder what the grim Aragonés would have to say about Fox News.

Doesn’t shock me — this is the channel that regularly celebrates Earth Day by encouraging people to litter . . .

I saw this earlier on another site and all I could manage to say was how this woman is woefully ignorant. But that doesn’t even come close to describing what I really feel, only I can’t put it into words. It just sickens me to think that someone would make a joke like this at all. It is not funny to go hungry; it is not funny when you cannot give your children an extra helping of food. To equate persistent hunger with a “diet” is outrageous.
I would implore this woman to look deep within herself and find out where and when she lost her humanity because while she obviously doesn’t realize it, she has lost it.

I am thankful for President Obama’s reelection. I am thankful I live in the United
States. I am thankful for those willing to die so I can be free. I am thankful that we are free and FOX News does not control our minds. Hurrah to the 47% of us who care about all of us.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Why do I get the feeling that FOX News commentators and reporters must demonstrate a requisite level of smugness, vanity, superficiality, and lack of empathy for the socio-economically downtrodden in order to get their contracts renewed?

Oh, you mean, like “Let them eat cake?”
…“I should try it because, do you know how fabulous I’d look. I’d be so skinny. I mean, the camera adds ten pounds.”
And of course, it’s all about her, this vacuous hag Tantaros, who gets a paycheck for having a mouth which opens and closes depending on who is paying her…
I want someone to make a picture of her, something Marie Antoinette-sytle, portraying her as the poster child (no make that Queen of Mean) of those she represents…plaster it on brick walls, billboards, social media, etc. making sure the message is clear to all that “Let them eat cake” is on the table again.

Coming from someone who has received assistance different times over my life, I am seriously appauled but not surprised that Fox News makes this seem like a challange, when millions of people actually live like this. And to say I should try it like its a new diet fad, really maybe they should volunteer at the homeless shelter this Thanksgiving and Christmas. This is why people should stop watching Fox News, they are a bunch of baboons.

I say F U to fox (is not) news ever… I’m still recovering from cancer and chemo… am an artist but cannot do art shows yet.. cannot make money… Again F U to Fox News and the uppity people that have no soul, no heart and not compassion.. I’m thankful to have had many instances in my life that has given me some heart and soul. I would never mock the poor in any way.. shame on them.

My heart goes to anyone like you. I work sometimes 6 days a week and have about $140 for food a month. I am 28 and this is no way to live. I have the Job I do now because of our President. Before him I was a Vet who had no job because my MOS didn’t translate into the Civilian world. Fox news needs to go the way of MTV.

My partner is on disability
She gets food stamps.
Not 135 but $200 dollars
She would not be able to eat otherwise
I have been out of work for 2.5 months
I can’t feed her
She feeds me
Anyone who has the gall to say what that c*** just said
Deserves to be raped, tarred and feathered and then killed slowly by strangulation.
I hate fox news. I want them off the air.

I too, am completely appalled by the comments made by the jackasses at faux news. That said, no woman deserves to be raped, or tarred & feathered, and strangled.
Fox News is disgusting, biased, and worthless. I wish they were off the air. But I won’t lower myself to their level of evil by wishing rape or other physical harm upon them.
Peace to all.

Agreed, but do we have evidence that Tantaros is human?
No, we don’t…this “creature” has made herself into a “throw away tissue” for the purpose of exploitation.
This is one warped creature, one who brings out the worst in us; that’s why those who write violent ideas are only venting what many are probably thinking. If there is a way to rid ourselves of her, well…tar and feathers is one way, but not necessarily the path we should choose as humans…Tantaros is not “human”. She is a creature straight out of a Steven King novel, so of course, people react and want a “stake” through her empty heart.

My thoughts exactly. Fox, and the attitude that supports them, is a big part of what is wrong in America right now.
Good luck to you and your (obviously) loving partner. I hope you can find work soon.

Sometimes it seems to me that there is no depth of crassness and ignorance too low that Fox news will not sink to in trying to keep itself, and the word ‘assholes’, associated, and in popular usage.

I wish to wake up some morning and Faux news would be gone and these people that think their entitled to speak and treat people the way they demonstrate day after day should end up trying to put food on the table for a family with no work in sight. People sure as hell didn’t ask to be put in this situation it just happens. All you people at Fox should try it, it may be very humbling for a heartless bunch of capitalistic ass kissers. This includes Rupert Murdock.. Satan doesn’t even want you people.

Perhaps Barbara Ehrenreich’s
book “Nickel and Dimed in America” should be required reading by anyone who wants to pontificate about the working poor. The sad thing is these so called journalists have no clue what they are talking about. They are spreading lies and hate about people suffering in America.

Like millions of other Americans, I too am getting by on $200 per month in food stamps. However, I am lucky enough to live near a food bank, where, because of my ridiculously low income, I am allowed food twice a month. Without these trips to the food bank, some months I would only eat for only 2 weeks out of the month or never see any form of fresh meat. Ten years ago, in my very early 20s, I was diagnosed with lupus; two years ago tyhroid cancer. The PA House Republicans led by Gov. Corbett took away my $200 disability. My income this year was $1,400. I am undergoing treatment at the Penn State Cancer Institute, yet my SSI appeal was just denied this week. I have not worked in two years, I’ve had no income other than this fabulous diet. I’m 32 years old; my Mother died when I was a child and my Father is currently in Hospice with terminal stage IV metastatic pancreatic cancer. There are no “parents to borrow money from.” Yet, I wake up every single day my sense of humor intact, with a long lists of reasons to be thankful, and not an ounce of the cold bitterness that these poor, spoiled misled fools possess. I’d rather be poor than so absolutely and completely morally bankrupt.

It’s all about the faith based initiatives started by Bush 2. Isn’t it obvious that giving money to religious organizations, mostly Christian, instead of investments in new energy technology and infrastructure which would create millions of decent wage jobs, is just a way to force people into churches to ask for help? The faith based initiative is nothing but a scam. I am surprised that President Obama continues to fund this scam. I guess he has to do it because of politics.

Actually, they mock the poor all through the year, so this is nothing new. They have a horribly skewed sense of morality that deifies the wealthy, no matter how they came by their wealth, and demonize the poor whether they work or not. It’s bad enough that people who are making heroic efforts to hold everything together with so little are having to deal with issues like this in a wealthy country without morons like these piling on.

I doubt that these creatures on Fox, even realize that the most of the people receiving Food Stamps are the working poor, the 47%. They work at places like, Walmart, where the greedy, Republican, owners pay low wages and make everyone work just
a couple days a week so they don’t have to provide health insurance, let alone a wage someone can feed their family on. Hence, they have to turn to the Gov.

The biggest irony of all, they apparently don’t realize they’re mocking the core of their viewers…the base of the Rapeublican party, white southerners who get the bulk of gov’t “hand outs” including food stamps. Well…perhaps if they just keep talking they’ll bring on the death of Teathuglicanism that much sooner. For THAT I will be thankful.
