Fox News Claims That US Government Rigged The 2012 Election For Obama
Fox News has invented a new reason why Mitt Romney lost the election. They are claiming that government bureaucrats unfairly tilted the playing field for Obama in the 2012 election.
Video courtesy of Media Matters:
On Fox and Friends Stuart Varney said, “It’s bigger than the IRS. There’s a suspicion here that the machinery of government has been used to suppress conservatives. That the election in fact was not a level playing field. There was a tilt, and it was orchestrated by government bureaucrats. You just mentioned the EPA, Environmental Protection Agency, almost always when liberal groups apply for a waiver of document fees, they were granted that waiver. Conservative groups had to pay. Now that’s a form of financial pressure on conservative groups. Then you’ve got disaster relief funds. Four states, red states run by Republican governors, were denied disaster relief funds. Then you’ve got the IRS. It’s not just the tax exempt office. Conservative supporters, supporters of conservative groups, they were audited. Republican donors, audited. And there’s a consistent pattern here. So Republicans, conservatives are looking back over the last four years and saying there is a pattern. There is a pattern of going after conservatives which affected the election. The government bureaucracy was used as a hammer in a way that it was not supposed to be used.”
Brian Kilmeade claimed that it was hard to argue with these examples because there are actual living breathing people that have proof of it.
It is really easy to argue with Varney’s examples, because they are either not true or come from dubious sources. The claims about the EPA come from the Koch and Scaife funded Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI). CEI’s mission is to shill for some of the biggest polluters in the country through climate change denial. In the 1990′s CEI was funded by the tobacco industry, and spearheaded tobacco disinformation campaigns. CEI opposes automobile fuel efficiency standards. CEI is anti-regulation, and is also funded by corporate giants like Ford and Coca-Cola. The source on Fox’s claims of EPA right wing persecution has a definite political agenda.
The claim that four red states have been denied disaster relief funds is dubious at best. These states were denied a disaster relief declaration but they received aid and support from FEMA in other ways. To make it sound as if they got nothing because they were conservative is not true. It is likely that the IRS audited or questioned more conservative donors, because conservative groups that received non-profit status outnumbered liberal ones 34 to 1. The odds of Republicans being audited are also higher because Republicans/conservative groups have a smaller donor base. Republicans rely on a few wealthy individuals to fund the majority of their activities. These individuals were donating heavily to dark money groups, which raised the suspicion of the IRS.
This was another example of Fox News trying to make excuses for Mitt Romney’s loss while building their factless case for Obama impeachment. Mitt Romney didn’t lose because Barack Obama used the government to rig the election. Romney lost because he was a terrible candidate who alienated everyone who wasn’t a conservative with his 47% comments.
Obama didn’t cheat to win reelection. He won despite numerous Republican efforts rig the election by suppressing the vote in states like Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Fox News knows how to tap into their audience’s paranoia, and that’s exactly what they were doing here. Paranoia about government oppression is almost as old as American conservatism itself. Republicans can never accept the legitimacy of Obama’s presidency, so they continue to invent reasons for their defeat.
With this latest claim that the 2012 election was not fair, it is clear that Fox News is trying to build the Republican case for Obama impeachment.

Another reason…Romney was just a bad candidate. A moderate Massachusetts Republican trying to please his far right base. He couldn’t do both things, and he lost.
Plus, very bad public policy.

The real reason Romney lost is that the rigged voting scam that repubs pull
in 2000 and 2004 didn’t kick in in the 2012 elections…that is why Rove was
so shocked and said just wait…well something went wrong….they couldn’t use
their trickery in 2008 b/c the whole world was watching and it was so evident
that Obama would win, but they tried to no avail in 2012 and they will do it
in 2014 and 2016….we have to be out there to stop them….with gerrymandering it just might too late…boy I hope not or we are lost…doomed…and whatever you can think of….

I can’t believe, how what I thought at first, was ignorance. Now I know is stupidity.
Here you have Obama up to his ears in scandal. Right in front of your face. Can not be denied. Can not be spun. Can not be explained away, in anyway.
No suprise here. We know what he is. It’s “you” that he lied to. He stick”s his knife in your back, and you say “Thank-you”.”May I have another”.
We thought the same way you do now, about Nixon. Until the day we found out that he was lying to the very people that supported him through thick and thin, good times and bad,we had his back. We also thought it was just the democrats wanted him out of office for polticial reasons only. Obama makes Nixon look like a boyscout
As the saying goes, if you don’t learn you lesson in history. You are doomed to repeat it.
As sure as the sun will rise in the morning It’s only a matter of time now. No if’s about it. The only question is when is it going to happen. No matter if you thumbs up or…

Why in the world can’t you Republicans just get over yourselves? President Obama won the election because he’s a good man who truly cares about everyone not just those who have their pockets full. The people are sick and tired of hearing the lies that fly out of your mouths. The real reason you republicans don’t like our President is because he’s a black man and I’m not playing the race card, I’m playing the truth card. Republicans are a sad and miserable group of imbeciles with so much hatred in their hearts. Why don’t you republicans grab your hoods and go burn a cross somewhere. We are sick of hearing and seeing you senseless animals. Republicans should just keep quiet before they dig a hole they can’t get out of. Move on the election has been won by a very intelligent, caring and reasonable man. Oh and Fox news is a circus with a bunch of clowns running around doing nothing.

Why do you, Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, care if we Republicans run off the climate cliff like a bunch of proverbial lemmings and disgrace ourselves? I’ll tell you why. We’re stuck in this together. We are stuck in this together. When cyclones tear up Oklahoma and hurricanes swamp Alabama and wildfires scorch Texas, you come to us, the rest of the country, for billions of dollars to recover. And the damage that your polluters and deniers are doing doesn’t just hit Oklahoma and Alabama and Texas. It hits Rhode Island with floods and storms. It hits Oregon with acidified seas, it hits Montana with dying forests. So, like it or not, we’re in this together.”
“You drag America with you to your fate,” he continued. “So, I want this future: I want a Republican Party that has returned to its senses and is strong and a worthy adversary in a strong America that has done right by its people and the world. That’s what I want.
I don’t want this future. I don’t want a Republican Party disgraced, that let its extremists run off the cliff, and an America suffering from grave economic and environmental and diplomatic damage because we failed, because we didn’t wake up and do our duty to our people, and because we didn’t lead the world. I do not want that future. But that’s where we’re headed. So I will keep reaching out and calling out, ever hopeful that you will wake up before it is too late.”

Oh hell no! You lie, white guy with the bad English accent. All four of those Governor personally thanked the President while their “own” tried to stop those states from getting relief.
But, I suppose this is how propagandist hone their craft; by carefully expanding the lie, denying the facts and subverting reality into their own perverse messaging.
Can Fox actually believe that MSM viewers throughout the nation did not see the opposite? That people in those states (and their relatives/friends in different parts of the country) who received the help didn’t see their Governors shaking hands with Obama and, thanking him for his help? congress voted for the resolution to give Bush the power to use force after all diplomatic options were tried and found unsuccessful. Instead of trying any diplomatic strategies he ripped the UN inspectors out of Iraq and began “shock and awe”
Then we started hearing from people like Bunnatine Greenhouse –the contractor who was fired for whistle blowing Cheney’s no bid billion dollar contracts, and he was an owner of Halliburton stock options, which he lied about.
the dems , after hearing from several UN inspectors and other authorities, realized the Bush admin had lied us into war and in 2004 Kerry ran against Bush on a platform of getting us out of Iraq while the right wing faithfully stuck loyally to the criminals they unwittingly voted into office, as they do to this day. Ashamed so badly that they were duped, they refuse to acknowledge the fact , have bush and other admin officials tried in a court of law on charges of war profiteering.

Free Speech is a wonderful thing, but when you are caught red-handed lying about something, repeatedly, and the lies are always concerning the President and how he is hurting Americans, it seems like there should be some sort of rating system, to ensure that what is being said is true and credible, otherwise they must declare that they are not a real news agency, they are only offering opinions. This should be run before each show, like the warning, Graphic material, may not be suitable for all ages, they should have a similiar warning For Fox shows, like , This show is not reporting the truth at all,we are just trying to fool you into voting against your own best interests, by accusing your duly elected President of some wrong doing that dosen’t exist.

Fox & the GOP will NOT look at how irrelevant the Republican Party has become to a majority of all young people, voters who will be around for many many years! Instead they have claimed Obama was not an American, or the Libia problem and the IRS scandal should result in impeachment, and now it was a stolen election. They would not entertain the stolen Bush election in Florida, or the the second term Bush irregularities in Ohio. Meantime the Senate is about to pass bipartisan immigration reform but House Republicans want no part of it. I guess they want to remain irrelevant!

Absolutely hilarious, but typical Fox blubber. The reason the Repubs lost is because their candidate couldn’t appeal to a broad enough voter base – ie: no minorities. Failure to recognize that this country’s voters are comprised of more than middle class white people, or failure to care about this statistic is what cost Romney the election.

They are such liars that they leave out parts of interviews that make one look bad guilty. Than later says oops. People who believe these people on this news station need their heads examined. they can come up with as many excuses as you want, the simple fact is that for Many of the conservative Christian base, Romney is considered a member of a Cult (Mormon) and will never get 100% support from the conservative base. So a lot of the conservative base had to chose between a cult member and Obama… which is why the third party’s got some votes this year. In My opinion, any non-Mormon would have won. I predicted that he would lose if he won the primary.
Bruce Fancher
May. 24th, 2013 at 5:49 pm
There’s no way to know how the 2012 elections would’ve turned out absent the IRS’s behavior, any more than it’s possible to know how it would’ve turned out without Romney’s 47% comment or Hurricane Sandy or many, many other events that no doubt played a role.
But Varney didn’t say otherwise, what he said was “there’s a suspicion here that the machinery of government has been used to suppress conservatives.” That’s been being way too generous. There is no longer a “suspicion”, given what’s come out, there’s a certainty that the machinery of government was used to suppress conservatives.
How high in the government the misbehavior went is something we don’t know yet, and how it affected the results of the election is something we can never know, but to pretend that concern about the IRS scandal is “paranoia about government oppression”, as the author of this piece does, is beyond insane. It’s not paranoia when they really are out to get you.

The IRS did nothing to effect the elections
And given now some of the groups that were targeted will probably be charged with misuse of funds for violating the restrictions, whatever they did was warranted
William Carr
May. 24th, 2013 at 7:15 pm
Bruce, I’ve found a flaw in your logic.
In order to determine that the Government suppressed Conservative Groups, you’d have to have evidence.
And what we KNOW, is that none of the Conservative groups investigated, were denied 501c4 status.
Not ONE.
The Attorney Trevor Potter, on the Colbert Show, said it’s not even NECESSARY to file for “permission” to be a 501c4 organization.
You just DO it.
So… how were any Conservatives harmed?
Nobody told them they couldn’t HAVE their political action groups. In the worst case, they would have had to be 501c3 groups.
They filed; and got requests for more paperwork. {wipes away a tear…}
How tragic.
Start thinking for yourself. This is a FAKE scandal.

The reason Republican’s lost so badly in the last election is because their ideas are morally bankrupt and they’d rather suppress votes and try to steal elections (while doing nothing productive in Congress or the state legislatures) than actually work with an intelligent, sincere and hard-working president because he happens to be a Black man. They are so filled with viloent hatred that they’d rather see the country go down the economic shitter than actually do SOMETHING useful if it involves working together. So they keep telling that BS lie that lowering taxes AND cutting spending during a recession (duh!) is the way to creat jobs. Like the Merchant of Venice, they want their pound of flesh no matter who it hurts. So like spoiled little bullies on the playground who have been put in their place by an angry studentbody, they refuse to play, cooperate even though they LOST!
William Carr
May. 24th, 2013 at 7:22 pm
The GOP knows they’re losing their fight for One Party Rule.
The demographics of the Country are turning away from them.
So they’re trying to seize power NOW; if they can regain the control they had in 2002-2006, they’ll change the Constitution to give them more power.
Already they’re trying to Nullify the Constitution by claiming that anything not specifically mentioned is UnConstitutional; resolutely ignoring the General Welfare Clause that allows Congress to make laws in the benefit of the United States.
They’re also trying to repeal the 17th Amendment so they can control the election of Senators in the States where they can seize the State Government.
It will require vigilance and determination to stop them.

Here in Ohio at the early voting here in Toledo no one checked IDs. This opened up the state to voter fraud. It is the law in Ohio that Voter IDs be checked and this was not done in Toledo during early voting. In Columbus the Franklin County Democratic party bussed in hundreds of Somali refugees, who are not even citizens.
I bet if the money was there to pay people to check the roster of voters during the early voting in the counties of Lucas, Franklin, Hamilton, Montgomery and of course Cuyahoga, you will find a lot of dead people voted.

OH Sec. of State Husted has recently admitted that there is no major voter fraud in Ohio. Out of 5.6 million votes cast, only 135 possible cases of voter fraud were found in Ohio. I crunched the numbers and the possible percentage of voter fraud that took place in the 2012 presidential election in OH is 0.002410714285714286, less than 1%. John, it’s easy to make claims, but it’s better to be able to prove them. Your claim of massive voter fraud having taken place in OH in the last presidential election is WRONG. The state of OH has yet to prove that the 135 cases of suspected voter fraud are actually real cases of voter fraud. Fox feeds its’ viewers BS and they pretend it’s a chunk of delicious chocolate. It isn’t, it’s still sh*t.
“As Husted put it, “Voter fraud does exist, but it is not an epidemic. To put this into context, … that’s 135 referrals out of more than 5.6 million votes cast.”

Honestly, news is not what it it use to be – there is spin on both sides. FOX, however, is simply nuts! You can feel the hatred. On top of this, none of the so called facts seem to be factual…predictions that are meaningless (add up to nothing), statements are unfounded, yet people still watch this entertaiment source (it’s not news).
Basically, America will forever be plagued with idiots and prejudice just as long as Americans continue to foot the bill. So, wake up, America!!! Crappy headline. Is Stuart Varney the same thing as Fox News? Hyperbole just like the bulk of the commenters engaged in the expected liberal rant against Fox News. the reality is the IRS situation is serious. It smells like those in power trying to silence the voice of those with different views. It’s early still and the head of the program has taken the 5th. The justice department grabbing the records of reporters also smells of silencing voices. Not new news. Just Chicago style politics.

Normally I’ll leave a comment after an article such as this saying something to the effect that the ranter-in-question forgot to take his/her meds.
However intuitively I feel with this one that the problem was an overdose. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough to do Stuart in – but we can always hope the next one will accomplish that eh?
Me thinks the Elephants are running outa shock-value . . . but of course we can’t expect anything different til they figure out how to reunite as one cohesive voice.
But Fox and partisan politics aside lets face it folks this so called 2-party ‘system’ is a joke right from the get-go. I only vote Lib cuz it’s the closest of the two to my sensibilities: HOWEVER ~ two narrowly defined political ideologies do not a true representation of this country’s incredible diversity make. This in combination with ‘representatives’ not actually representing anyone but themselves is what makes all of this ‘choice’ myth a giant farce.

I have just wasted well over half an hour reading these posts. It seems to me there is a lot of hate for Fox News out there. For many years (before Fox News) I would watch the other news networks and seldom heard both sides of the issues (they were all liberally slanted views presented).
Along came Fox and I thought to myself, “Holy cow, a different slant on the news, totally right wing”. When you’re fed a liberal line all your life, ANYTHING to the right looks far right wing.
But as I watched further, I came to find out they are actually the most fair and balanced news team (as they claim) that is available.
I AM conservative and I do NOT agree with everything on Fox, as they seem Left wing in many areas. But then So does Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity just to name a couple.

Stuart Varney said there is a suspicion of that due to a pattern of going after conservatives. He also says we don’t know if there is a connection between that and the campaign or the White House.
One can’t help but wonder, again, why Harry Reid claimed he had evidence that Mitt Romney hadn’t paid taxes in 10 years – which was of course a lie anyway.

Romney wasnt a lie. You forget both are mormons. Romney used his churches exemptions to hide his money. He didnt pay any tasxes for over 15 years. All the donations to the church were going into his own accounts.

Where were they when Bush stole the election from Gore in 2000? Florida had to do what they had to do to ensure Bush got the nod. Fox, overall, is simply about ratings, not about facts. They do have some good segments, but unfortunately they are drowned out by the buffoons like Hannity, O’Reilly, and the Fab Five. Florida hasn’t gotten any better. They did their utmost to give Florida to Romney. But, the will of the people prevailed. A moderate will prevail in the next election. We always do better when we’re in the middle. Obama has done all the heavy lifting to erase what the prior administration did to our country. The far right is a joke……………

FOX news is like the rasslin’ matches we watched as tykes n’ teens. They make money by having nothing but praise for the GOP, and contempt and lies for the Democratic folk. Same principal as the WWE, the good guys and the villains. They’ve got one hell of a big audience. They make millions doing this juvenile shit but, I’ve got to say, this is keeping them flush with cash yet it’s so dangerous for the pea-brains that really believe in this phoney info and lies. Just like rasslin’, it’s all faked and yes, I do think Michelle Malkin was born a man. One more thing dj, where’d all the trolls come from?

I’m rolling here just thinking the Democratic party doesn’t need to do anything for 2016 and for 2014 here in FL. It’s truly amazing the conspiracy theorists haven’t blamed the late winter on the Pres. As a Veteran on Memorial Day weekend let’s not forget one thing, he is Commander and Chief of the greatest armed forces on earth and all due respect should be shown for that. I just heard a news flash that Donald Trump was going to do a remake or Thelma and Louise and have Palin and Bachmann play the roles, and that Karl Rove was going to buy the mustang, I sincerely hope they just don’t yell cut too soon, the clown car full of the GOP “assclowns” doesn’t need any help in their demise, by being utter morons and having people like Limbaugh represent them I think we’ll have another Dem in the big chair in 2016, and Charlie will get rid of that crook/thief (Scott)down here in the Gov’s seat, thank goodness for the old people who vote GOP you’re my heroes…lmfao..

Just when you think republicans can’t sink any lower they surprise the world and lower the bar! All the insane made up scandals you clowns make up aren’t going to change who’s president!! DAMN! Obama cleaned you clock twice!! live with it! Maybe you republican geniuses should concentrate on getting a candidate with a pulse and not look like somebody who just ate a lemon!, I think even John Edwards probably could defeat the republicans in 2014, now thats sad!!

The propaganda peddlers appearing on FOX and Friends routinely pick up headlines about political statements, proposals, events, etc. and then rather than performing some basic journalistic investigating (determining the 5 W’s, story validity, etc.), they instead fill in the details with their own delusional fantasies and then proceed to present them to their audience as fact.
They couldn’t care less whether what they espouse is factually accurate. All that matters is whether or not they can SELL it to their viewers.

FUX news NEVER claimed to be journalist! their a invented political entertainment media source for the GOP! Pew Research: Fox is 54% opinion, CNN is 46% opinion, MSNBC is 85% opinion. The balances are hard news.
An adversarial press (to the administration) is the only press worth anything. A press that worships and runs interference for an administration is not worth watching. I am not interested in the president’s favorite color or basketball picks.
During the Bush administration, I watched CNN and network news. I wanted to know what nasty stuff the government was up to. I don’t believe I had ever watched Fox until the Obama administration came along. I want a press that will dig for scandal and not be afraid to report it. To the best of my knowledge, we have never elected an angel to the presidency.
The entire press was adversarial to the Nixon Administration. Even so, it took a long time to bring Nixon’s sins to light. Master politicians are experts at hiding their warts.
When the GOP regains office, I’ll watch CNN again. For now, Fox is the one to watch.

Only a republican could be “DILLY” enough to believe FUX news is 54% opinion!! SERIOUSLY!!, how incredibly stupid can a human being be to buy that??!! I don’t care what PEW reports! FOX news is so phony Canada pulled the plug on them!! SERIOUSLY!!, FOX news is 99.99999% propaganda!! 54% opinion my ASS!

I have not voted for a Republican, for president, in my entire life despite having voted in every election. The last major party candidate I voted for was Carter in his first term. I did not remain ignorant enough to vote for him a second time.
I also am NOT a registered Republican and have never been so in my entire life.
Strong partisans, hating the other side while worshiping their own politicians, are usually willfully ignorant of the issues swirling around them. You appear to be a strong partisan, Mr Knight.

@jerome is just another reason why the GOP is fading away! for the blind, not dealing in reality who believe I’m using “TALKING POINTS” should wake up!! my opinion based on where both parties are going look like the GOP is self destructing!! FUX news has dummy down so many non thinkers that republicans actually believe their party will make a come back LMAO, until the GOP stops demonizing, blacks, hispanics, women, muslims, science, progressive societies, the GOP is DOOMED!! Heres my take, 2016, will be another nail in the coffin of the GOP!! so get your crying towels out!! listen to FUX news and the rest of conservative media for your excuses why the democrats gave the GOP ANOTHER serious BEAT DOWN! Just remember, these were the same wiz kid republicans who swore Willard Rommey was going to be president!! REMEMBER!? and look what happen! You republicans can’t pick a winner to save your lives!! so stop boring us with your nonsense rants you people post here, use that time to invent crazy conspiracy theories on why the dems are cleaning your clock!!, you listening @jerome?!
Jerome
May. 25th, 2013 at 5:58 pm
No Mr Knight, I am not listening and you are not speaking. Since you must have slept through high school civics (if you are that old), you missed something important. An adversarial press is important in maintaining a free society. If you take Fox out of the picture, who is fulfilling that function? Feel free to look up the word “adversarial” if you so need.
Putin and the late Hugo Chavez could worry with you, about the problems presented by a adversarial press. They both started out making accusations of lying before taking tougher measures against the press.
Looking back at your last post, Mr Knight, you seem to be threatening the rest of us with one-party rule. Now, won’t that be fun?
I became independent before (1978) being independent was cool. By the way Mr Knight, the group known as Independents is growing even as the Democratic and Republican Parties shrink. Independents now outnumber both Dems and the GOP. Again Mr Knight, your party is shrinking.
