It’s even better than that. In the last 35 years, American Indians finally gained freedom of religion under the law, in the last hundred years, we finally gained the right to be citizens, and in the last 100 years, the Trail of Tears unofficially ended (the law was stricken from the books in the 80s). In my generation and the ones following, being American Indian is no longer being taught as a source of shame and embarrassment and something to be hidden or rejected. Our youth (in most areas but still not all) are actually being taught to have pride in their heritage.

There HAS been progress in this country, but they see it as a bad thing.
