Their imagined world is also one in which minorities were invisible except as servants per the restrictive convenants. Those who were poor were also invisible, and what happened to people in these groups didn’t matter.

I’m not so sure they want to go back as far as 1776, although the premise of only white men voting, slavery still intact and rich land owners as the only politicians in town is “close”…I think it is their version of a romantic mythical world, like Xanadu…

I honestly think they would be very satisfied, smugly mind you, with an American landscape prior to Roosevelt, maybe through the Eisenhower years; basically all the 20th century republican cronyism periods.

All morality was in the closet, he-men who didn’t go to war were ruling their families and communities with iron-fisted bigotry and war profiting. Those stricken by poverty remained uneducated and there was no protection or safety net for the old or disabled.

I think they want the “radio days” to return so that they and their relatives do not wind up on reality TV. The want promises of an America with Hummers in their garages (exclusively), plastic surgery for their women (exclusively) in order to keep them in perpetual “girlhood”, plus, all business closed on Sunday to making sure everyone attends Christian church…they’re too damn ignorant to realize that Hollywood created all the “images” they mythologize for screen presentation; real American life resembles reality shows and Jerry Springer.

Dangerous and ignorant indeed!

I can’t say I disagree with you. But I would take it one bit further, why do states differ? It’s because of the government ind those states. I will give you one tiny example. There are certain punishments for certain crimes. The people never get to vote on those punishments. Is there any reason that the punishment for drunk driving shouldn’t be the same all the way across the country? no there isn’t, but the lawyers in the states make sure they are different because they are self-serving.

In the case of TARP I believe, and most politicians and economists will tell you that without that bailout our banking system could’ve collapsed. The people might not wanted to have done it but it was to our country’s credit that it was done. Personally I would prefer that the banks were allowed to fail. But then again that would just create far too many global problems
