Fox News Blames Obama for the Trayvon Martin Controversy
By: Jason EasleyMar. 27th, 2012more from Jason Easley
Fox has decided that President Obama is responsible for the controversy surrounding the death of Trayvon Martin, not George Zimmerman.
Here is the video from Media Matters:
On his Fox Business program, Lou Dobbs said,
The Obama campaign tonight drawing sharp criticism on Twitter over a campaign sales tweet it sent out yesterday. The campaign advertising hooded sweatshirts for sale, just three days after President Obama chose to comment publicly on the shooting death of seventeen year old Trayvon Martin, who was wearing a hoodie when he was shot. As we reported here yesterday, it’s highly unusual for the president to comment publicly even the hundreds of shooting deaths that have taken place in his hometown of Chicago each year since he took office. They’ve gone without presidential comment. So why would his campaign suddenly advertise hooded sweatshirts in the middle of a national controversy in part created by the president himself? And the ad run by the campaign reads in part, ‘Let everyone know whose team you’re on with today’s merchandise steal, the college style hooded sweatshirt.’
According to Fox News/Business, Obama is responsible for the controversy because the president called the Trayvon Martin shooting a tragedy and pointed out the obvious fact that if he had a son, his son would look like the victim. However in the eyes of Fox News, this is proof that Obama is playing the race card. Without ever having to explicitly say it, Dobbs was suggesting that the Obama campaign was intentionally trying to profit both politically and financially off of the Trayvon Martin shooting by selling hoodies.
The problem with Lou Dobbs’ argument is that the Obama campaign is always selling hoodies. They sold hoodies the day after Trayvon Martin was gunned down. The hoodies aren’t some new addition to the Obama merchandise line. The campaign has been selling hoodies for months, and the only person playing the race card here is Lou Dobbs.
Ah, the dreaded hoodie, the real culprit in this case besides President Obama. If only Trayvon Martin wouldn’t have worn that hoodie, he would be alive today. If President Obama would not have pointed out that the shooting of Trayvon Martin was a tragedy, no one would have noticed.
It seems that the death of Trayvon Martin is everyone’s fault, except George Zimmerman. You know, the man who shot and killed Trayvon Martin. It is disgusting the way that the right has used the death of a seventeen year old young man to further their racial attacks against President Obama, and it is appalling that they would drag the name of Trayvon Martin through the mud in order to try to split America.
Fox News, conservatives, and the right will do anything to defeat President Obama, including dividing our nation along ugly racial lines.
President Obama deserves better. The American people deserve better, and most of all the young man whose life was senselessly ended definitely deserves better.

If Fux wants to place blame on anyone selling hoodies to profit from the death of Trayvon Martin, they ought to look closer to home — the NRA.

But I guess Obama is a safer “target.”

It is disgusting the way that the left has used the death of a seventeen year old young man to further their campaign, and it is appalling that they would use this case to their advantage and further advertise hoodies in his name in order to try to split America and gain voters through supporters of justice for Trayvon. SMH. Both sides are ridiculous! Rest in Peace Trayvon.

Nobody is selling hoodies ;’in his name.’ What planet are you on? Oh, yeah, Planet Fox. How about the NRA sellking them complete with a pocket to hide your handgun? Is that OK with you?

You are an example of what can happen when people don’t have access to certain information, Ana. I’ve been a member of Organizing For America (OFA) since 2008, and OFA has always sold hoodies. This means that your assertion that President Obama and/or the left is selling hoodies to profit from Trayvon Martin’s death is incorrect, and imho, it also shows a tendency to believe what you hear/read without doing research of any kind. It’s okay to have an opinion about a certain issue, but it is NOT okay to push lies, draw incorrect conclusions using them, and spread them all over the blogosphere as if they’re an accurate interpretation of an event/occurrence.

Seems to me that the central question is – If the circumstances of the event had been exactly as they were, the shooter had looked like Mr. Martin, and the dead man had looked like Mr. Zimmerman, would the police have arrested the shooter?
Almost no one yet knows whether the shooter is guilty of any crime, but people are not arrested because they are known to be guilty, they are arrested because there is probable cause to BELIEVE they were involved in the commission of a crime.

The new witnesses in defense of Zimmerman are multiplying like mushrooms.

Gee, I don’t know why they’re not blaming Obama for 9/11?

Oh, they will. I’m sure it was some collaboration between Obama and Osama to make Bush look bad.

We need to blame ALEC. BTW, the “friend” of Zimmerman’s story fell apart tonight on The Last Word, MSNBC.

Naturally, they’d blame Obama for that. They blame him for everything.

The hatred that FOX harbors for this president is scary in its intensity. The hatred has caused them and those who follow them to become unhinged from reality. Apparently, they choose to overlook the fact that the president responded to a direct question from a reporter about the Trayvon Martin case. He responded as a parent, showing empathy for the bereaved mother and father, but he was also careful not to say much because of the investigation that’s underway. It’s mind-boggling coming from the very people who are trying to make anyone but Zimmerman responsible for his horrific deed, including the late Trayvon Martin. Of course, they look for any excuse to malign the president, and this is just the latest example of their insane stupidity.

What’s new here?!! The Reich Wing always blames everything on their opposition … even the damage their greed drive policies cause. The economy Bush was warned about and caused anyways was all Obama’s fault as of 21 January 2009. Everything is Obama’s fault. Gas prices (but weren’t Bush’s fault), the economy they created, the BP oil spill their deregulation facilitated, … The Nazis used scape goating effectively as well. Well, many of them did in fact join the Republican Party after being smuggled into the country.
Lou Dobbs? This clown has about as much credibility as Sarah Palin. Remember he is a birther and a nutcase.
FAUX news is only doing their Machiavellian duty as in “The Prince” and providing pacification of the drooling idiots while the Koch brothers and their ilk fleece the nation.

People who speak out against injustice know the peril they face. But this form of injustice will happen again and again, as it has. History repeats itself until we learn how to right a wrong. How dare they blame the victim… and those who seek justice are made out to be the villains. But the idiots are the devils advocates, as usual. They all have the same talking points, while they ignore the truth and the evidence.
