Fox News Personally Attacks Jon Stewart
On Fox News Watch today, Fox contributor Jim Pinkerton upped the ante and personally attacked Jon Stewart as a demagogue. Pinkerton compared Stewart to Lonesome Rhodes by saying, “Five words A Face In The Crowd, the 1950′s movie starring Andy Griffith…about a talk show host who then thought he was a political and a demagogue.”
Here is the video from Media Matters:
After playing a clip of Stewart on O’Reilly, explaining why he was holding a rally to restore sanity, a panel discussion was centered on the questions, “His rally is raising some eyebrows. Is he moving closer to participating in the very establishment that he lampoons every night? I mean, is he becoming a politician here? Token Democrat, Kristen Powers said, “I don’t think he’s becoming a politician. He’s a public figure, and he’s playing off of being a public figure, and there’s absolutely no problem with it in my mind. I think that he talks frequently, and I think it’s a legitimate gripe he has with the media that he feels that it is too polarized, and it doesn’t represent most people.”
Ah, but Fox can always count on Jim Pinkerton to deliver the attack and talking points. Pinkerton said, “Five words A Face In The Crowd, the 1950′s movie starring Andy Griffith that made him a star about a talk show host who then thought he was a political and a demagogue, and see the movie to see how it ends.” Powers responded, “Ah, Glenn Beck anybody? Seriously, you can’t say that, and then suggest that’s somehow strange that Jon Stewart is doing this. Pinkerton replied, “I didn’t say it was strange. I said it was almost predictable.” Powers continued, “Jon Stewart is a performer though. He’s out. He says he is performer though so there’s nothing unusual about it.”
Fox News has now moved from being freaked out about Stewart’s rally to now personally attacking him as a demagogic threat that is moving into politics. This was a slice of Fox News’ generational fear mongering at its finest. Pinkerton’s comments today were the first step in attacking the motives behind Stewart’s rally. Fox can’t handle the idea that there may be more moderates out there than Tea Partiers, so now they are going to try to paint Stewart as a demagogue who is going to move the youth of America towards Socialism.
As Powers pointed out, it is ironic to say the least that a network that features the 21st Century Lonesome Rhodes a.k.a. Glenn Beck would dare to suggest that Jon Stewart is a egotistical demagogue who is moving into politics. There is a political and social message to what Stewart is doing, but unlike Beck, Stewart has shown no interest in getting politically involved. Fox News feels very, very, very threatened by Stewart and Colbert’s rally, so we can expect these attacks to continue, as Fox does their best to discredit and undermine the motives of what is certain to be a larger gathering than anything Beck, Palin, Fox News, the Tea Party have ever put together or promoted.

This is a fight Fox News will wish they hadn’t engaged in. Ignoring it would have been their best option.

They are going to rue the day. Stewart will eviserate them and I can’t wait! Stewart has truth on his side, as well as sanity, that is why these idiots don’t get it. They are border-line insane. Oh my goodness I can see it now; Go F yourselves, go F yourselves with his choir in the background. Hahahah. Don’t they know you don’t go after Stewart and come away unscathed. They really must be peeing their pants right now. What do they think, only moronic, old, fat republican’s get to rally in this country?

Stewart is so far from A Face In The Crowd that it is beyond incredibility. He is not saying I will represent you in the least. He is not taking anyones place, he is letting people know there are millions of us out here that feel we get no representation. These guys are idiots and I coudnt understand the lady saying she found nothing unusual in what Stewart is doing. Will she find a car bomb in her purse?
Personally I know whats going to happen (lol) The next move for Fox is the moron Beck telling his royal minions exactly what Stewart is going to say to set them up for it. They are more afraid of what Stewart and Colbert is going to say about them in public. Beck is going to make a big thing of this just prior to it happening. Don’t believe what they say about us, they are only doing this to bash us etc etc.
Stewart and Colbert making Fox look bad will force the tea party and the GOP to evaluate how they use Fox. Fox may not be a viable tool in the future if S/C do what i want them to do:). But, if Fox goes all out to undermine this and S/C dont even mention Fox, that will be just as good.

It’s refreshing to see Fox running from the best (political) disinfectant besides sunlight. What makes Jon Stewart formidable is that he bases his arguments on facts. Verifiable, substantiated, uncluttered facts. That’s the stuff that bullshit can’t stand up to. Instead it changes the subject, trying to change the playing field but Stewart can shift gears with the same alacrity and aplomb he applies to virtually every subject.
What will Fox talk about when this rally proves to kick Beck’s in the nuts numbers-wise? I’m looking forward to it!

Fox will talk about how any reports of nut-kicking are just the result of the mainstream media’s liberal bias.

It never fails to amaze me how the wingnutz continually project what they are actually doing to accuse the “dirty, socialist, marxist, communist libruls.” Even the names they call us apply directly to them. We have to turn it back on them every chance we get, in every instance.
Thanks so much for continuing to shine the light on these hypocritical creeps.

So, it’s just fine and dandy for Beck and Palin, who are not politicians to have not one, but two rallies but not ok that Stewart and Colbert, who are also, not politicians to do the same? Excuse me if I seem confused!!!!???? I am so tired of people talking out of both sides of their mouth/a#%s. You can’t have it both way folks. I agree that Fox has just jumped the shark on this and I think it will show, beyond a shadow of a doubt, what a hypocritical “news” channel they are. Enough of the insanity! But deep down, I’m LOVIN’ IT! And I’m sure that Stewart and Colbert have just SET them up and the IRONY is, Fox never saw this coming. LOL

The Daily Show will be verrrrry interesting on Monday night.
Stewart’s guest: Bill O himself!!!
The monologue should be extremely interesting as there is no real way to avoid this being that O’Reilly is the guest.
I’m setting my TIVO to cover my butt just in case I doze off for 40 winks and miss it!

What’s even funnier is that Fox still has no idea what’s coming. That would require intelligence.

Oh, I think they well know what is coming and are trying hard to delegitimize what is coming. I pray there will be a hugh turn out. I don’t know exactly what he is trying to do but I hope it really brings the democratics out in full force to show the right where we all stand. I would be happy if it can bring as many people has the million man march in DC. Good luck Jon, you got them scared to death.

The authoritarian mindset has to control the truth, and Jon is outside of their control – they’ve got to discredit him.

Ohhh man…they are definitely biting off more than they can chew this time! And if you are following the Facebook page on the Rally, it looks like it is going to be BIG. We are closing our store for the day so our employees can go and I personally know more than 20 folks who are going who are NOT Facebook people. Fox News has obviously forgotten Woodstock and the momentum that an event that younger people thinks speaks to them can generate.

Most of us of Woodstock age have forgotten Woodstock too. I think we have forgotten why we had it to start with. We sure are regressing from that time

i can see fox almost putting a right-wing spin on anything said by Stewart; that way their weak-minded lemmings won’t get frightened by hearing an adverse opinion to their own. (Not quite how I wanted to comment, but maybe I’m a bit of a weak-minded lemming today) I know I despise fox news – love Stewart and Colbert

Daily Show = comedy
Fox news = comedy but not haha funny.
I think I know why legit. news organisation have had a hard time with Murdoch’o'vision. In true “takes one to know one” fashion, only a parody can parody a parody.
Fox news meet your kryptonite.
