GOP Falling Apart as Tommy Thompson Blames Romney for His Plummet in the Polls
As 2012 falls apart, Republicans are starting to turn on each other. Wisconsin Senate candidate Tommy Thompson is blaming Mitt Romney for his nine point deficit to Tammy Baldwin.
Here is Thompson telling WKOW that the top of the ticket is the problem:
Thompson said, “The Presidential thing is bound to have an impact on every election. Whether you’re a Democrat or Republican. If you’re a standard-bearer for the Presidency is not doing well, it’s gonna reflect on the down ballot.”
It’s not his fault that according to the Marquette Law School poll a nine point lead in August has become a nine point deficit in September. Thompson is all about blaming Romney, and attacking the poll. If Romney doesn’t turn it around soon, we are going to seeing the full blown return of the Republican circular firing squad.
Republicans had themselves so convinced that all they had to do was show up in order to beat Obama and take back the Senate that they are having a difficult time adjusting to reality.
Thompson has not done himself any favors with voters by attacking Baldwin’s sexual orientation. In fact, part of Thompson’s slide can be attributed to the fact that he has gone from leading with Independents, 47%-37% to now trailing Baldwin, 50%-38%. Baldwin has also benefited from a six point gain with Democrats as members of her own party are coming home.
Just like Republicans decided that their defeat in 2008 was Sarah Palin’s fault, the GOP is getting ready to blame Mitt Romney for what is quickly turning in to a disastrous election cycle.
It is as if Republicans can’t comprehend that they are losing to a stronger candidate and a better organized party. (There’s a sentence that I never thought I’d type.)
The Republican Party still lacks leadership, direction, and a coherent message that doesn’t involve screwing everyone else in order to give the rich more.
Mitt Romney has exposed and compounded what was already wrong inside the party. His nomination itself is a symbol of a rudderless ship that is in complete disarray. A deeply flawed party nominated an equally deeply flawed candidate who promised them the one thing they desired most, victory. They fell for Romney’s sales pitch of the impossible dream, and are now beginning to realize that they were conned.
Tim Pawlenty abandoned ship as Romney’s co-chair because he sees no future in the Romney/Ryan campaign. If Romney continues to epically struggle, more people will leave, as the pitchforks and torches come out.
After Election Day, Mitt Romney better head to the Cayman Islands and visit his money for a while.
The smoke signals are turning into a forest fire, as Republicans are preparing to blame Romney for what they are starting to suspect is going to be a 2012 defeat.

Polls can fool you. Make sure you are voting because the only way Romney can win is if you DON’T vote. The GOP is after the local, state and Congressional elections, which is the primary reason for the voter suppression. Have you not noticed the flood of media telling everyone President Obama is winning? You stay home, thinking it’s a done deal and Romney will win by default. It’s not over until you’ve cast your ballot. Wake up.

I’m guessing the call to abandon the USS Romney is a little more chaotic. This is probably a more accurate representation.

No one is saying don’t vote, but it can’t be denied that the Republican Party is turning on each other. This story is simply a snapshot of where we are on September 20, 2012. The election will be in a different place on September 27, October 4, and especially November 6.

Could it also be that people are turned off by all the money in the election and have figured out the rich are trying to buy our democracy? Anyone with even half a brain must be starting to also notice that the GOP are not talking about their everyday concerns but how much the President is wrong and the Democratic party while they are blocking any bills to help them and their elected party leaders are outright saying they are using voter suppression to ensure President Romney. Also the Democratic party had a great convention that spoke to the people about their vision for America while the republicans bashed the President and said tax cuts and doing away with regulations and I did it myself bs. While anyone sees tax cuts for the rich don’t help the economy. Things are turning and those negative commercials aren’t going to help the GOP but turn people off. That said we must vote like our lives and future depends on it for President Obama and the Democratic party. The GOP don’t care about the working class.

You really hit the nail on the head. The GOP of as I call them “The League of Frightened White Men” don’t care about average Americans.

Independents and non party voters have seen the light. That light is shining on the Koch roaches and their minions as they scramble to hide from the light.
Seriously, the more you shine a light on the fact that corporate executives and ultra wealthy investors are trying to buy the presidency and congressional offices, the more that correct thinking people understand that President Obama is not antibusiness. He is a decent man who wants the best for the people of the US while Romney is a decent man who could care less about the people but wants the best only for corporate executives, ultra wealthy investors, and their political minions like Paul “Privatize” Ryan.

Agreed, Kimbutgar, but the problem is that the zombies that follow the Limabaughs and Fox News’ of the world will NEVER change their minds about this president, even if they don’t like Romney.
It’s probably gonna come down to people with common sense making the correct decision on election day. We’ll never get those Fox idiots. I’m not gonna try…
Sound familiar???

We not only have to vote, we have to make sure that people who do vote don’t blank the down ballot spots as happened with a lot of first time voters in 2008. We also need to organize at the local level to combat any voter intimidation. Truth the Vote, a Tea Party affiliated group, is promising to train 1 million persons by election day to make sure the vote is done right – and by that they mean far right. They were out in force in 2010, taking pictures, challenging,
and menacing voters, especially minority voters.

There is no earthly explanation for what the Republicans have done to themselves. It’s been like watching a smug psychotic hold a blade to his own throat and say… “Come any closer and I’ll kill myself!”

IMO, what is killing the GOP politicians is the emergence of the truth about their policies, and the fact that the lies they’ve been telling are being exposed. They never expected Americans to learn that they tried to change the definition of rape, or that the war on women is real, or that they accepted stimulus funds while bashing the stimulus, or that their main focus is on enriching the rich, etc. These things were only supposed to be mentioned in “quiet rooms.”

T-Paw was a CO-CHAIR and couldn’t even wait until AFTER the election to bail. OUCH that’s gotta hurt. Somebody doesn’t want to be in the line of fire when the shooting starts. People in MN already KNEW he was spineless but now the nation can see.

They are still at it. This week the Republicans blocked the Veterans Jobs Bill — one that they themselves had helped draft.
Why? To deny Obama (and the Democrats) “credit”.
The level of hypocrisy is breathtaking. They want to increase defense spending, but not a cent of the increase should go to veterans.
And what does it say to their assessment of the intelligence of the voters? “Let’s scuttle this bill and blame Obama, they’ll never figure out it was us.”
