GOP Spends Full Week Eating Crow Served Up by President Obama
This is an era of diminished expectations and cynicism where Congressional approval rates have fallen under 10 percent, narrowly beating out the public’s surprising fondness for cockroaches and Genghis Khan. And no one expects grand bargains of any type to be negotiated that will put the country and its’ middle class back on the road to solvency. We must take solace where we can find it.
This was a week which commenced with a subdued inaugural vision of hope and change, shared by a battle-scarred and wary second-term President. Still, it can’t escape our collective liberal notice that by any standards this was also a very bad week for the Republican Party and its stubbornly quaint platform. If, as our very own Sarah Jones writes this week, “John Boehner Thinks Obama Wants to Shove the GOP to the ‘Dustbin of History’,” the Speaker of the House may thank his party mates for acting as the President’s accomplices.
Case in point: as NPR and other news outlets reported just a few days ago, Republicans were forced to blink during their latest turn at fiscal war games. In a report entitled House GOP Backs Off Debt Ceiling Demands, NPR host Scott Simon states “After insisting for weeks on a dollar in spending cuts for every dollar that they would agree to raise the debt ceiling, Republicans dropped that demand, at least for the next three months.”
As we know now, the right did not surrender out of a genuine concern for the credibility and financial state of the nation. No, ultimately the party bowed because even their closest cohorts found the position untenable. When the Koch Brothers are unable to stand by their man Boehner (because at the end of the day, unmitigated, selfish, wealth creation is behind all their demands), even the stubbornest radical is forced to face the likelihood of defeat. Queue the retreat and inevitable patriotic messaging.
And that’s not all. Coming off an election cycle stunning in its attempted reversal of 50 years of social, economic and professional progress for women, the GOP proponents of “traditional family values” were handed an unexpected setback. Outgoing Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta announced plans this past Wednesday to open more than 230,000 front line combat positions in the U.S. Armed Forces to female soldiers. New York Times columnist Gail Collins reported that only recently, “[Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee] and her allies declared victory when they merely got language in the defense authorization bill requiring the Defense Department to study the question of women in combat.”
From a meandering study to a done deal in record time. How must it have hurt Fox News to have to run this headline: Leon Panetta Praised by Latinas After Combat Ban Lifted? Could it happen to a better party? A group that made a concerted effort to degrade Latin American immigrants and female reproductive rights in the run-up to the 2012 Presidential election is now forced to watch idly as a second-term Obama receives the gratitude of a constituency comprised of both of the GOP’s most reviled elements..
Most of the nation appears to be following the lead of the POTUS. Don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back for embracing changes that probably should have been instituted long ago. Announce it and move on to putting out the next fire kindled in some fashion by Republican opposition. The clock is already ticking on the President’s remaining ability to foment the reversal of eight years of comprehensively schlocky, dangerous policy. But these small victories are a painful reminder of where we’ve been and how far the President’s leadership has taken us.
That deserves at least a moment of celebration.

Please Leave a Comment with your “Thumbs-Down” Votes Next Time; Unless that’s all you are trained and paid to do. I Got It! “Only” The Highly-Educated GOP “Morons” are “Allowed” to make comments. They can “Train” any “Monkey” (like you) to give a T/D vote and Pay them Peanuts (Corporate Cost-Effective Measures In Play). But the GOP’s Highly Educated “Morons” who can type sentences are the ones making “Modern-Day” Corporate-Plantation “Slave-Wages”for Salaries; “The Big Bucks”;”YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR”. We can tell. In my opinion.

UncaJoe; I was”Assuming”that since the “Vast-Majority” of the People on this Webb-Site (Along with My-self) are on the “Left-Wing” Side of the Debate Fence (in my opinion) I would have to Admit (now that I think about it) that Not-Only Do I Give T/U’s votes to many of the (in my opinion) “Left-Wing” Comments Because I do Agree with most of Their Thoughts Exactly (no comment required in my opinion). But I also; (on the other-hand) Give T/D Votes to the “Right-Wings” comments (the few that are given). I also “make-sure” to “leave-them” a comment; if I feel that we or any of the “Moderators” have missed a point when we Express and give Our opinions, advice, information and suggestions to a “Right-Wing” Commenter that we “Disagree” with. “UncaJoe”; Question; Why do “You” “Think” that Someone on this site would want to or should want to take the time to express “Their” opinion or give-advice directly to someone-else; Who They have just “Disagreed” With (or anyone else for that matter) Especially when all they Would Have to do here is simply hit the T/D Button? Give US YOUR Answer. Are You Suggesting That the “Reply” Option be “Discontinued” On this Site like the T/U and T/D Button Options were a few days back (Remember?). IF THAT WAS THE CASE NOTHING WOULD Ever GET SOLVED. Because no one would be talking to each other right?. In my opinion. And now; about the “hissy fit”. Before I left this site for a “little-bit” only “Sugapea” and I were on the site holding it down as the dreaded T/D’s (with out comments to back them up) began to “hit” us. I “figured” the T/D’s that were being thrown at us and to every-one Else I Support (Not Only Me) are coming from GOP”organized-Groups” Not Just “Individuals” with the Ability to think and comment On their Own as has been suggested by many on “our” side I believe. Would you not feel bad if you gave your opinion’s on a topic and received multiple T/D’s without any comments as to…

UncaJoe: Remove one T/U from your Score-Board I “Screwed-Up” and”accidentally” gave it to you by mistake. I was going to give you a T/D. but I Wanted to post my reply to you first as is my custom when I give a T/D. Scroll-down this Site for the details. Your Reply button Was not Responding (how odd) so I made a “random” comment regarding this matter. Just so you know! Your first T/U was from me. Probably made you smirk. I am looking forward to your comment.

“UncaJoe”; I hope you got enough “Crow” dinner to eat on this thread. I haven’t heard back from you. I hope my reply back to you didn’t give you a “hissy fit” and spoil your dinner and make you sick and unable to participate on this site any longer. “God-Forbid” that should happen! How would we ever know since the majority of your comments are done under cover with a T/D button. In my opinion. Oh and don’t forget to subtract that T/U vote I gave you by mistake. And read all “Frank” and my comments on this thread I feel they are relative to your lack of intellectual prowess. Have a Good one!

I will respond once and once only to your childish goading.
Anyone who would complain over trolls giving their comments a thumbs down doesn’t deserve to have their comments published. If your self-esteem is based upon what anonymous internet visitors think of your rants then I suggest you seek medical help.
My opinion stands, throwing a hissy-fit over poor anonymous ratings is childish.
Have a great day.

UncaJoe; Are you saying now that you aren’t the troll I thought you to be. How can any of us now be sure you aren’t one of those “Anonymous-Trolls” you speak of? You stated: 3 T/Ds For throwing hissy fits over T/Ds. (I gave you my opinion on this subject and I Stand by It nothing has changed). And Your Right I did goad you; just like I did to get “THE ANONYMOUS Trolls” (Read my Posts) Who showed up the first time; “You” and then “Frank”(do you know “Frank”). The rest is History. UncaJoe; After reading the 2 posts you gave me to make “my” judgement as to what “side” you are actually on in the Political-Battles that we on this site discuss daily; I would say that you lean “left”; As do I and the majority of folks here on this site. However; I have also come to the “conclusion” that I could not now; considering the fact of “your” having thrown “hissey-fit” comments on your part (in my opinion) over my-posts regarding the “Anonymous” use of T/Ds votes (with-out) comments attached (that I have made) could not now be considered as “Just” a case of “Friendly-Fire” “accidentally” done by You (as you are on my side); Because you “intentionally” aimed them at me too degrade, and inflict “punishment” (in your mind) on some scale; to me for making my comments you “disagreed” with. You suggested that I should not be allowed to make my posts and that I should seek medical help…(read your comments); Its more like the term “Fragging” (used in a “Real-War” when you want to eliminate someone on “your-side” for whatever-reason and make it appear to be the enemy or accidental); was attempted on your part against me. Why I don’t know. Must be my “style” right “UncaJoe”; could you be a Rt.wing “mole” and an “anonymous-troll” all at the same time? Its Possible; in my opinion. You fit the Profile.

Yeah, but haven’t they spent decades telling us how “strong” and “brave” they are, Elayne? Personally, I’ve always found most of them to be the worst kind of coward. Cowards say stupid sh*t and tell stupid lies, and when they’re caught, deny everything. Cowards also never, ever provide a genuine apology for an offense they’ve committed. It’s always someone else’s fault, ya know. Many republicans still won’t mention their second saint’s name for fear that they’ll have to defend him, so he went unseen and wasn’t mentioned in the last presidential election, but President Clinton was all over the place!! I can imagine that if President Reagan was still alive and well, they’d have treated him the same way.

I’m one who gave you thumbs down, phooey.
You want feedback? Okay.
Speaking only for myself
1. If getting thumbs down really twists your knickers, you may want to consider the possibility that the fault is with your messages rather than those who view them.
2. You may want to consider posting comments that actually make sense and don’t conjure up the image of someone getting drool on their keyboard. Your first comment on this page really gave me that impression.
3. It helps to have a point. That makes reading your comments much more enjoyable to the reader. I honestly would not be able to explain to someone exactly what you were trying to say in your first comment.
4. It’s usually considered a good idea to make sure that your comment has some tangible connection with the article to which you are responding. If you can contribute something constructive that will help advance the conversation, by all means, do.
5. On insisting that someone explain why they down voted you, maybe keep in mind that if everyone explained every vote they make, these comment threads would be overrun with those explanations of those votes, to the detriment of commentary on the articles.
6. If down votes wreck your day, maybe political commentary isn’t your strong suit.
7. Whining is not going to get you the approval you seem to crave. Having something to say does not create an obligation for someone to like it.
8. Look at all your comments that get down voted, determine what they have in common, and maybe consider not doing those things, if down votes really get you butt hurt enough to make several posts about that and nothing else.
So–
You asked someone to explain their down vote. I have complied with your request. You don’t get to whine about my reasons if you don’t like them–you asked to know. Now you know, and your not liking my reasons is not an issue that concerns me.
I expect you to give me a down vote, as is your right; I don’t expect…

Frank; Thank so you much for “Your” advice and “feedback”. Now that I feel I know Your position on the matter of T/D Votes with-out any “feedback” (I like that term; thanks) which I consider a fundamental issue (having-feedback) when debating any topic because we all have to have a “start-point” to proceed from. (1) I thought I had made it “clear” somewhere in my past “rantings” that not “liking” my posts is NOT the issue; knowing the reason why they don’t “Agree” with it is. I hope I am speaking on behalf of all members of this site because when I see on a daily-basis comments made that I feel no one in their “right-mind” should disagree with get numerous T/D votes with NO feedback as to “why” concerns me; so I speak up. (2)&(3) My first comment; that you stated didn’t make any sense its got 7 T/U’s and 3 T/D’s so far; the “drool” you mention was because the “topic” was about “Eating-Crow”. Something you might try. (4) If you read my 2nd comment; I ask them to “please” leave a comment with their T/D votes; with some dry humor and mocking added to “provoke” a response; it seems to be having an “effect” don’t you think? (5)Read my reply’s with an (open-mind) to “UncaJoe” for the answer. (6)and (7) Refer to item (1) of this comment for answers. (8) If you would refer back to my 2nd, 3rd and 4th comments in this thread that had the “desired-affect of bringing the T/D’s with out comments”crowd” into the light; like you FRANK 1-T/D and a comment and “UncaJoe” who gave me 3- T/D’s and a comment… But who keeps score among friends as long as we all have our say and catch each others “Drift”. Let everyone know how you really feel if you Agree or Disagree with them openly. That’s how differences get solved Peacefully in my opinion.
Understanding of your fellow man’s concerns…

I *read* your comment with an open mind, more than once, and I still couldn’t make out what the hell you were saying.
I don’t have any obligation to upvote you just because someone else did. As I openly stated right up front, I was speaking for myself.
I still maintain that
1. You really might ought to examine what your posts communicate, and whether they communicate anything at all.
2. If you are going to get all butt hurt about what think about what you say online, you probably shouldn’t be commenting online.
What I see is you highjacking this whole discussion thread out of what really comes across to me as insecurity.
And I downvoted your reply because because your posting style really comes across to me as near-incoherent and harder to wade through than it should be.
I know you won’t like what I’ve said–again–and I frankly don’t care. Respond as you will, I will not be replying again, and in so doing helping you continue to make this discussion thread about you.
I did not mean a word I said personally, I just responded to your insistence on getting feedback. Your liking it or agreeing with it is not a requirement.
I hope you have a pleasant, enjoyable evening, and a long and happy life.
But I’m done.
Cheers

Frank; Thanks for Replying again. I Believe that You and I had the “Same-Exact” “debate” on another thread recently; where you “also-admitted” you “only” down-voted my post; “just because” you “didn’t like” my “style” of posting. You state your current down-vote of my first post on this thread is because of “style” (and also the fact you felt that it was “near-incoherent” to you). I “Really-Feel” that if any one “like-You” who Deems themselves “Worthy-Enough” to “Judge” and then “Comment” on “any” other persons Posts on this site and would (as you stated you do) “only” base your judgement on the “style”in which the post was submitted and not the actual “subject-matter” of the post (which I feel is the “essence” of understanding any communication) is Dumbfounding to me and “Total-Ignorance”(to say the least) on your part! (in my opinion). What if; We all considered your Ability to Judge Anyone should be “Revoked”; Because maybe; if you “found-out” that “we” all Danced and Dressed Different than you or Looked-Different than you (Our Style) or couldn’t “communicate” as well (near incoherent is your term) as you believe you can; would you not then “already” be Holding (2) strikes against a lot of us “posters”on this site because we all have differences in Our styles and communication skills. Frank; so why should We Trust You at at this point to read or understand any of our posts before you rejected them (T/D). That does not seem fair on your part at all; in my opinion. As for the my first post on this thread being “near incoherent” to you; at this point it has 8 T/U votes and 3 T/D votes (and since one is yours and one should be “UncaJoes” its more like 8 to 1 in my favor). I would say that your “ability” to “perceive” and “comprehend” is “lacking” and “shallow” at the least. Nothing personal. I also gave you a T/D vote for what its worth.
