What the Hell? Educating Tim Kaine on the 47 Percent
In one the dumbest political moves of 2012, Tim Kaine was asked about the 47% and said he would be open to a minimum tax. Tim Kaine could use a little education, so here’s a lesson on the 47%.
Here is the video of Tim Kaine tripping over his own two feet on the 47%:
GREGORY: Do you believe everyone in Virginia should pay something in federal income taxes?
KAINE: Everyone pays taxes.
GREGORY: But federal income taxes?
KAINE: I would be open to a proposal that would have some minimum tax level for everyone. But I do insist — many of the 47 percent that Gov. Romney was going after pay a higher percentage of their income in taxes than he does.
Kaine echoed the minimum tax position pushed by such intellectual luminaries as Michele Bachmann and Rick Perry. Why? Who the hell knows. But since Tim Kaine seems to have no idea who the 47% actually are, here a brief lesson for him on who it is that he is open to taxing.
Kaine was right. The 47% already pay taxes. The real number of Americans who pay no taxes is 14%. This group consists of the elderly, the disabled, and the working poor and middle class. Kaine’s first screw up was buying into David Gregory’s mindless repetition of the Fox News lie that 47% pay no income taxes. The 47% number comes from the year 2009, and does not represent every year.
For the love of God, Democrats, stop treating the lie that the 47% pay no incomes taxes like it is a fact. When a moderator or interviewer uses this piece of false information, challenge them.
Just who does Tim Kaine think he would be open to taxing?
Here is the percentage of taxes as income that the 47% currently pays:
In his defense, Kaine didn’t said that he would support taxing the 47%. He stated that he was open to the idea of a minimum tax. Kaine’s remarks might do the most damage with Democrats. Republicans already support the idea of taxing anybody who isn’t wealthy.
What Kaine did do was blow a golden opportunity presented on a silver platter. David Gregory threw Kaine a softball, and his not only swung and missed, but also pants himself in the process.
Kaine gave us a what the hell moment, but his gaffe won’t be as damaging as Mitt Romney secret admission of his true beliefs about the American people.
Tim Kaine just ran around with a lit firecracker and blew his thumb off. Why anyone would run with a lit firecracker who knows, but it is time for the Virginia Democrat to get to the hospital and have that detached digit sewn back on.

What I think is very, very dangerous about the meaning of a minimum tax is that it plays into the idea that people who do not owe federal income tax need to pay *something*, because otherwise they are not contributing to this country in a meaningful way. This is wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. People not only pay plenty of other taxes they contribute their time, talent, energy and money in countless ways that keep our society functioning.
This minimum tax idea is just a means of making millions of people believe that they need to be taught to contribute, that without paying *something*, they are contributing *nothing*, that they are “takers”, that they are worth less, that they must have character flaws or they would already be paying taxes, and so they must be taught how to be contributing members of society.
And people like that? Well, obviously things like ss or medicare or unemployment compensation or worker’s compensation or food stamps or school loans will just reinforce their poor attitude towards contributing to society as their betters do, so *for their own good*, we better eliminate those things that just breed dependency in people of low morals and character.
The minimum tax idea is an abomination.

This is why Dems lose. They are always afraid of sticking up for the right things. They try to two step and lose their convictions and credibility.
Can’t we all just be on the same theme for once.
Remember the press are not our allies. Why is Kaine worried about people who have less paying more?
I think we should start with people who have more and pay less. Let’s fix our tax code if we want fairness.

DUDE, ssshhhhh. Don’t complain about Tim Kaine, we need every Democrat we can get in the Senate and Kaine is just starting to gain in the polls.
I don’t see Kaine following through on a minimum tax or getting any support for it from Dems. Let the man have flaws for now.

Governor Tim Kaine is an excellent Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. While he was the Governor of Virginia, we were described by national media as the best state in which to do business. Governor Kaine also balanced the state budget. He is a very good manager and I suspect that his response may have had something to do with his good management skills. Governor Kaine believes in a fair and balanced approach to the governing and that is what this is all about. He is a fair-minded individual who believes in working by reaching out to all parties. Why? Because it works. It worked when he was the Governor of Virginia and he will bring this tried and true approach with him to the U.S. Senate where we need more people who are ready to roll up their sleeves and get government working again in Washington. This is why I support Tim Kaine!
