A Hilarious Fox Fail Ensues When They Try to Blame Democrats for Detroit’s Problems
Steve Doocy desperately tried to get reporter/author Charlie LeDuff to blame Democrats for Detroit’s problems only to watch LeDuff list the corrupt Republicans in the city’s history.
Here is the video from Fox News:
Transcript:
Doocy: Charlie, What happened in Detroit?
LeDuff: There are a lot of things happened in Detroit. Oil embargo happened to Detroit. We were making bad cars in Detroit. We have racial problems we haven’t acknowledged in Detroit. Trade pacts happened in Detroit.
Doocy: You’ve got your corrupt politicians….
LeDuff: You’ve got your corrupt politicians. We’ve got this new economy that’s out of pieces of paper, credit default swaps being brought in, and boom, pop goes the weasel.
Doocy: How long has Detroit been run by Democrats? Is it related?
LeDuff: Well, I hear that a lot. It’s the liberals running it into the ground, but the last Republican mayor of Detroit went to federal prison for corruption. The three county executives that went to prison in 1942. It’s our culture. By the way, there’s not one Detroit Democrat running Wall Street. Not one Detroit Democrat running Haliburton. This is a national sickness. We’re just corrupt cheaters. That’s what we do now.
Check out the look on Steve Doocy’s face after LeDuff listed the Republicans. Even more telling was how quickly the Fox host changed the subject. Doocy tried to lead LeDuff down a path that he wasn’t going to follow.
This interview was a textbook example of an epic Fox fail. Fox and Friends thought they could use LeDuff and his book to advance the conservative argument that Detroit is an example of what happens when Democrats are in charge. (Notice that when Doocy didn’t like direction LeDuff was going in when he asked what happened in Detroit, he bluntly tried to shift the focus back to his planned blame the Democrats narrative.)
It is always fun to watch Fox News’ propaganda efforts blow up in their faces.
LeDuff refused to stick with Fox’s bash Detroit narrative. He closed the interview by listing all the things that Detroit has going for it. It is easy for the right to bash Detroit. Long before Mitt Romney wrote, “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt,” the right had been trying to bury the Motor City for decades. All Fox News did was revive the tired right wing fantasy that Detroit would become a paradise if Republicans ran everything.
There are a lot of reasons why Detroit has struggled, but Doocy’s ignoring the role of decades of national Republican led economic and manufacturing destruction is an example of why millions of Americans have turned off Fox News.

Hasn’t been anthing but Dems for mayors since 1960; definitely not related. Check any city in the toilet and you will find a large Dem voter block and politicians to go along with it.

Check an entire country going down the toilet and you will note that it is almost 30 years’ worth of Republicans and their inane policies that put it there.
Next comment?

That was a pretty ill considered and transparently partisan dig.
You know full well that no matter who was Mayor of Detroit they had almost nothing to do with the city’s decline. All those Mayors were fighting a rear-guard action against the abandonment of Detroit by the US automobile industry, and manufacturing generally, as they moved much of their production to the slave – I mean right-to-work states and lost market share to the more innovative and quality conscious Japanese automobile manufacturers.
Detroit is beginning to recover and although it’s unlike to ever again be the city if was in the hay-day of American manufacturing it will again be a fine place to live. IMO had Republicans had their way in 2008 it is probable that Detroit would now been in even worse shape than it is.

I was brought up 20 miles from Flint Michigan. I watched in the 80′s as the big plants started closing down. If you want to thank anyone, thank Reagan who gave tax breaks to suppliers that went overseas.

Currently reading Charlie LeDuff’s book. I was born 70 years ago and raised in Detroit, much of what he has written jibes with my memories of the city. Shame of Fox for trying to push it all off on the Democrats! The book is an incredible insight to what’s been going on with no change in sight.

Where did they spend the citizens of Detroit’s tax investments?
Where’s the public benefit from public taxes? Cozying up to contract government is like inviting a vampire to dinner. There will be a bloodless corpse at the end.

We ARE talking about Steve Doocy. Sometimes Steve makes Brian Kilmeade and that airheaded bimbo that sits between them look like Mensa Club members.

Over a half million folks left Detroit over the last 60 years as the economic policies of the repubs at the Fed level resulted in decline.

And much of it in the 80′s when a certain president started giving tax breaks to people who took their work and went overseas.

I guess it is hilarious if one is a liberal. If you have half a brain, however, it was just strange. Democrats have run Detroit since 1962. That’s how far back Leduff had to reach back to point fingers at a Republican. As for the Haliburton and Wall Street reference, that was just bizarre. What in the world do a successful corporation and the center of this nation’s financial sector have to do with Detroit?
I live in Detroit, and Charlie Leduff is a joke here. He stages his reports, and this apprearance only served to embarrass both him and the city.

It is true that the mayors of Detroit ran the car companys, gave them tax breaks to send jobs overseas in the 80′s. I just wonder why Detroit mayors arnt making millions of dollars like the Car executives are. Do you know?
“What in the world do a successful corporation and the center of this nation’s financial sector have to do with Detroit? ”
And you live in Detroit you say? You dont know what Detroit has to do with Wall Street? hint(car companys, Shipping, canada, auto supplier corporations etc)

fact is mighigan is a tax net producing state if it got back dollar for dollar sent into the fed-it would be debt free with plenty to go around for welfare..
just like cali-just like all liberal states they all take less then they pay in-
red-states take double what they pay in taxes
and here is the kicker.. red-states are the states given government contracts and subsidies..
without government there would be zero economy in red-states period

Slightly OT–yet, it high-lights those who still want to see Detroit’s leadership fail:
From “Hatewatch” 2/22/13:
“A convicted felon from Ohio with neo-Nazi sympathies and an illegal arsenal of assault rifles, semi-automatic pistols and other weapons was tracking Jewish and African-American community leaders in Detroit before his recent arrest by a federal anti-terrorism task force…”
