Hillary Clinton Eats the Republican Party for Lunch at Benghazi Hearing
Senate Republicans found themselves absolutely dominated by Sec. of State Hillary Clinton at today’s Benghazi hearing. Sec. Clinton didn’t just testify. She owned the room.
Here is Sec. Clinton smacking down tea party Sen. Ron Johnson’s Fox News talking points about “misleading” of the country over whether or not the Benghazi attack was caused by protesters or terrorists.
Clinton answered Johnson’s attempt to try to drum up a scandal for the White House sternly and directly, “With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest, or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference at this point does it make! It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again, senator. Now honestly, I will do my best to answer your questions about this, but the fact is that people were trying in real time to get to the best information. The IC has process I understand going with the other committees to explain how these talking points came out. But you know, to be clear, it is from my perspective, less important today, looking backwards as to deciding why these militants decided they did it than to find them and bring them to justice, and then maybe we’ll figure out what was going on in the meantime.”
Later, John McCain broke out his usual grandstanding for the television cameras and tried to blame the administration for the lack of security and military assistance in Libya, and he was slapped with some facts by Sec. Clinton.
Clinton replied to McCain, “With respect to helping the Libyans, and that also goes to the question Sen. Rubio asked, we will provide a list of everything we were doing and were attempting to do, but I will also tell you that since March 2011 congressional holds have been placed for many months for aid to Libya. We’ve had frequent congressional complaints. Why are we doing anything for Libya? It is a wealthy country. It has oil. Disagreement from some sources that we should have never been part of any UN mission in Libya. Currently, the House has holds on bilateral security assistance, on other kinds of support, for anti-terrorism assistance. So we gotta get our act together between the administration and the congress.”
This is the hearing that Republicans have been waiting for, and so far Sec. Clinton has absolutely eaten them alive. They have failed in their goal of pinning the failure of leadership badge on her in order to damage any potential 2016 presidential candidacy, and they have failed to turn this into the broader White House scandal that they so desperately crave.
As a former senator, Sec. Clinton understands the egos and grandstanding associated with these types of hearings. At times she looked flat out bored while Republicans droned on and on with their Fox News talking points and hints of conspiracies.
Sec. Clinton took responsibility for what happened, but also was very moving as she shed tears while talking about standing beside President Obama and watching flag draped caskets being carried off the plane. In a roomful of raging Senate egos, Hillary Clinton ran the show. The GOP’s past (McCain) and their future (Rubio) were no match for Clinton.
Mrs. Clinton looked like a president at this hearing. She was head and shoulders above her questioners. The scary thought for the Republican Party is that she did this to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. They’re supposed to be the smart Republicans. Things could get even uglier for GOP when she testifies before the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

“…shown up by an intelligent, articulate and educated woman who wouldn’t lay down for their nonsense.”
This, of course, is the real reason she must be punished and put in her place, an appetizer to tide them over while they keep bumbling around trying to do the same to the uppity Black Man in the White House, who has yet to show that he Knows His Place.
It would be so nice if they spent their time actually running the country. No, wait, never mind. I take that back.

What difference does it (the truth) make? Absolutely nothing to this known liar. What difference did it make who was responsible for the original 9/11? What difference did it make at Pearl Harbor? what difference did it make in the assassinations of presidents Lincoln and Kennedy? This flippant attitude about four patriotic Americans who were killed by Muslim terrorists is absolutely irresponsible and unforgivable.

Hey Dum-Dum, you have to use your head a little bit to understand what she said, you must be part of the 24% of hardcore dumbasses, that refuse to face reality, you should try some less complex things, like coloring in a color book, or maybe you can handle finger painting, don’t eat the paint, in case you forgot. Once you grow up and can accept reality, maybe then you may have something valuable to add to the conversation, until then, let the Adults talk.

I love the way McCain blabs nonstop for over six minutes putting on a show for the TV cameras, asking about 20 different questions and bashing her in public for all posterity. He is such a blowhard. Just today Algerian officials said they had questioned some captured militants from the Algerian natural gas plant attack who said there were Egyptians who helped them who had been in the Benghazi attack. And so we are still learning new things about that attack. And speaking of the confusion over what has happened in an attack in a third world country – look how that story is different every single time you read a report on it! We still don’t know for sure how it happened and even how many were killed and it’s been a week!

Rand Paul Doesn’t waste a moment’s worth of time telling us how little he thinks of our American troops. It’s great for political grandstanding but if there was a Democrat there with a spine he should’ve spoke up and mentioned the 5000 dead in Iraq. He should’ve mentioned the criminal actions of Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney

Actually, there was a Deomcrat with a spine: Senator Chris Murphy from CT who did just that–he pointed out that we lost 4000 in Iraq and were there under false pretenses.

facts are- CIA had a mission to enlist “assets” to report what extemists militants were doing- the militants were paying attention to the CIA- the attack was to draw US attacks on Libyan civilian and/or expose the CIA & assets. the efforts of congress have already put in danger many pro-US assets. whether we need to be there is really the question. no where in the middle east will ever exist any kind of democracy like the US, that we erroneously try to establish. sad, but those countries need those dictators to stop the civil wars between religious groups- the so-called “rebels” “freedom fighters” are religious extremists who themselves are oppressive. very much like our teaparty, the only freedom that exists are limited to those who believe and think as they do. the point is these hearings are a political motivated farce- they KNOW the admin. cannot speak w/o exposing and threatening more Americans, or those pro American- IF they did, and more people killed we could be drawn into another war

“What difference at this point does it make! It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again, senator.”
It seems the ‘senator’ was trying ‘to figure out what happened’ so it would not happen again. So just answer the question Hillary. Tell everyone what happened instead of evading the question.
“Now honestly, I will do my best to answer your questions about this, but the fact is that people were trying in real time to get to the best information.”
Now honestly Hillary, how much more information did you need than ‘real time’ information before sending assistance. Even if it was to late, assistance should have been sent. My question is: Did you start to send any assistance? Where are the official Dept of State notes that should have been documented that indicate what actions were taken?
Let use an example … let’s say the police while watching a live feed video see a woman (or man) being assaulted in ‘real time’ on a street in a bad part of the city. How much more information do the police need before they would send in officers to attempt to stop the attack and rescue the victim and neutralize the attackers. In reality, it would have been better for the attacked person to have had someone there to protect them don’t you think … but as in the case of Ambassador Chris Stevens no one had the foresight to send any armed protection with him in one of the most dangerous places in the world.
The four previous respondents can heap all the praise they want on Hillary … but the fact remains ,,, either she didn’t do her job or someone she is superior to didn’t do their job and an ambassador died along with three other Americans. And Hillary won’t help find out what happened. I think the buck stopped with her and she should just come out with the minute by minute replay of what happened from official transcripts and let the facts be known … and the blame fall where it falls.
Shiva(Moderator)
Jan. 23rd, 2013 at 2:16 pm
I am not sure why you think Hillary will not find who did it, or that she doesn’t want to. She said very clearly that that is our goal.
As far as ambassador Stevens not being protected when he went to the safe house, that would’ve been up to him. The State Department in the United States does not tell him every time he leaves who we can taken who he can’t.
The GOP didn’t do their job by cutting the funds on embassy security. Go thank them. And read more about this because there’s a lot of information that you are missing

Security might have been better if congressional republicans didnt cut funding for State Department security
thehill.com/homenews/hous...
Yes questions have to be ask but the republicans wouldnt or couldnt ask the right ones.To them its a game,to look like they are top of things when if fact unless someones there to assist them they would put their depends on the wrong way.
I find it amusing that rethugs wants to get to the bottom of things when before 9/11 this got shrugged off

Reading is fundamental.I said might.Do I have any way of knowing?Of course not.In what context was the question ask?Would the funds that was for Tripoli contribute to the security breakdown?Of course not seeing it happen in Benghazi. Was Benghazi a diplomatic consulate or as some have suggested a CIA compound?I dont know and I am not into conspiracy theories. So I would like to see the whole transcript to see the context for that question.
But we do know funding was cut and if that funding was not cut how could it have helped. That should be the focus of the hearing

Wow, that sounds familiar.
It fact, it sounds similar to what a former SoS [Condi Rice] said to Greta Van Susteren on Fox a couple months back:
“There, I know that Chairman Mike Rogers wants the Intelligence Committees to look at questions of what the …intelligence community knew, how they communicated that to policy makers and that’s the appropriate venue for that discussion.
…When things are unfolding very, very quickly, it’s not always easy to know what is going on on the ground.
…There’s a big picture to be examined here but we don’t have all of the pieces and I think it’s easy to try and jump to conclusions about what might have happened here. It’s probably better to let the relevant bodies do their work.
…When there is a fog of war like this, there are a lot of competing stories coming in, there’s a lot of competing information coming in and it takes a little while to know precisely what has happened.”
www.newshounds.us/condole...
Of course, Fox forgot about what she said a day later. Like the Senators today, they don’t like any reality intruding on their predetermined fantasy . . .

When I first heard about this, I was surprised at all the RWers I knew shrieking “GOTCHA!!! LIAR!!! First you said it was a PROTEST, and now it turns out it was an attack by MILITANTS!” at the administration.
I couldn’t figure out then why this was such a big deal. I figured it would blow over in a few days.
Since it hadn’t, after weeks, I assumed that some terrible smoking gun, some evidence of deliberate perfidy on the part of the Obama administration and the SoS had SURELY surfaced.
Nope. Reading this today, it’s obvious that the RW still thinks they have her by the nuts over the “protest or planned military action??” thing, suggesting deliberate lies or coverups that are just NOT supported by anything.
This is such a tempest in a teapot compared to the years in which Bush/Cheney DID deliberately mislead all of us — including Congress — into a military action that cost us thousands of young Americans’ lives, many more thousands of Iraqi civilians’ lives, and billions of dollars which, as it turns out, we absolutely couldn’t afford.
But the Big Deal to the GOP is … it might not have been an actual *protest*!! OFF WITH HER HEAD.
The GOP is, IMO, committing full on treason at this point.

Ms Clinton looked like a petulant and aged ego-tripper. This woman is Secretary of State! The reviewer who thought she “owned the room” must have been watching some other proceedings. She acted like an over-aged brat when not trying to dodge perfectly relevant questions. She was in charge. Using funding dodges and blame shifting will not change the fact that she dropped the ball big time, and may have helped cause the deaths at the consulate. Of course most of the people in these responses seem to be on a mission-and finding the truth isn’t it.

I get tired of the wing nuts saying it was saw in REAL time, they are incredibly stupid. There was no REAL tome video, this isn’t a damned first person shooter video game, and as Clinton said ” I could have kept it all classified and not came here, but I wanted to answer the questions”. I guess that explains why when 12 embassy and consulates were attacked and 53 Americans killed, along with hundreds of private contractors in Iraq (that had no security) was, like everything else under the Shrub, never answered to.
