John Boehner and Eric Cantor May Hold Aid For Hurricane Victims Hostage
When the offices of Republican House leaders John Boehner and Eric Cantor were asked if they would demand spending cuts in exchange for hurricane relief aid, they both refused to answer.
The Huffington Post’s Jennifer Bendery reported,
Cantor spokesman Brad Dayspring on Friday declined to say where Republicans would look to make cuts to pay for a potential storm aid package.
“We aren’t going to answer a hypothetical question about hypothetical federal aid caused by hypothetical damage,” Dayspring said. “If a request for federal aid is made, we’ll have a response. Until that time, we hope precautions are taken to minimize the damage caused by the storm.”
…
Cantor’s office also won’t comment on whether the lawmaker would require offsets for aid specifically tied to Hurricane Irene. And a spokesman for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) ducked the question altogether when asked if Boehner agreed with Cantor’s call for offsets for emergency aid.
“Our concern now is safety,” Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said Friday. “We’ll discuss costs when and if they occur.”
Never before have spending cuts been required before disaster relief is approved, but spending cuts had never been required to raise the debt ceiling and that didn’t stop House Republicans from creating a crisis that took the economy to the brink of destruction. The only reason for Boehner and Cantor to dodge the question is that they are considering requiring spending cuts in exchange for hurricane relief.
Cantor has a history of calling for offsets in exchange for federal disaster aid. After the tornadoes in Joplin, Missouri, Rep. Cantor said, “And also we see in the healing process that there is an appropriate federal role. Congress will find the money and it’ll be offset.” Interestingly, the same offset standard does not seem to apply to Cantor’s own district. After the recent earthquake that was centered in Cantor’s district, he promised that federal aid would be given, and did not mention a word about spending cut offsets.
There should not even be a discussion about the provision of disaster aid. Millions of taxpaying Americans are going to be impacted by this hurricane. Why do they pay taxes if they can’t count on their government to provide aid after a natural disaster? Our government has a duty to protect and aid its citizens, and those members of Congress who don’t wish to do their duty, are in my opinion violating their oath of office.
It is unfathomable that John Boehner and Eric Cantor would have to dodge questions about whether or not they are going to play politics with the victims of a hurricane. The fact that they would even consider politicizing disaster relief should prove to the American people that they are unfit for any leadership position in our government.

I hope the democrats and the president is paying attention. I would use Ads stating what they said and then use video of the devastated areas and ask them again so you think you don’t need FEMA help? Blast them to help. What uncaring bastards republicans are. They only care for the rich. When I hear the bagle boy (Cantor) say people got to save for emergencies. I wonder how the hell do people save when they are living payday to payday helping their immediate and sometimes their extended families. I pray to god that the democrats win a majority in both houses that the republicans can’t over ride them.

The sad part is there are people that would see this as ‘OK’. Even worse a number who would probably be affected.

And if they do, they can kiss 2012 goodbye. An F-U to the American people will achieve a like response.

I believe if they try to offset the cost of a disaster by spending cuts it will set back the GOP position with the public for a couple of decades. It will prove there is no charity in their hearts just the bottom line to have control and power at all cost.

Do you see what happens Larry? This is what happens when you try to buy off hostage takers. Appeasement never works with thugs, only fighting back harder and accepting some losses does. Keep trying to “compromise” with these cons, and they’ll keep finding something new to threaten America with to get more perks for the rich and their corporate masters.

There shouldn’t even be a THOUGHT of compromising with these heartless, ideological robots who obviously have no humanity in them. The only thing that will stop them is to fight them vigorously at every turn, because to them compromise spells defeat. Every time I think they can’t be any more intellectually and morally bankrupt, they prove that they can sink even deeper into their ideological cesspool of greed, selfishness, and disregard for the well-being of everyday Americans–especially those afflicted with various misfortunes.

Get rid of them! Vote these clowns out of office. Cantor is a heartless, self-aggrandizing, money grubbing fool. Plus, he just ain’t that bright.

What a stretch! They didn’t say anything like the title of the article suggests. And the huffington post think’s it’s a news site. It’s an agenda. Why would they give this site any kind of an answer when all this site will do is twist it to fit their idea of the facts? I sure wouldn’t comment either.
Wonder if my comment will even be posted………….

Hurricane Irene has claimed four lives, including that of an 11-year-old boy in Newport News, Va., and ripped apart houses and businesses as it continues to barrel up the East Coast.
Newport News police confirms to ABC News that the 11-year-old and his mother were in the same room of their apartment when the tree crashed through the roof, hitting the boy and missing the mother. The boy was found pinned under the tree on ground level.
Damage is already being done, Cantor & Boenher are both schmekels.

Most casualties of this hurricane Irene have occured in North Carolina and Virginia. Both are conservative, Republican states. The parts of Maryland affected likewise. If they do not desire Federal aid so be it. Northeastern and West Coast states always subsidize the states of the old Confederacy and the interior West, even without disaster. It would be nice for us Yankees to be relieved of some of that burden.

The difference between Eric Cantor and a catfish. One is a scavaging, scum sucking bottom feeder and the other is a fish. God doesn’t like ugly. The people in Virginia know what he is. they have elected him many times. How can you elect a man who says he love America but hates Americans.
