In 200+ Days The House GOP Has Voted To Kill 1.9 Million Jobs And Created 0
It has been 202+ days since Republicans took back control of the House and promised to create jobs. During this time they have passed legislation that killed 1.9 million jobs and created 0.
Instead of creating jobs, House Democrats contend that the GOP has passed legislation that would kill 1.9 million US jobs:
Before you get the wrong idea, the GOP has passed legislation since they have taken control of the House. Here is a partial list of House Republican accomplishments:
Voted to repeal health care reform on behalf of the health insurance industry;
For big polluters, Republicans passed a bill to undermine our ability to provide a healthier environment for our children, eliminating every tool EPA has to address serious public health threats from carbon pollution, including increased childhood asthma;
Voted to protect taxpayer subsidies for Big Oil and speculators driving up gasoline prices, and against gasoline anti-price gouging legislation for consumers;
Voted to provide more tax cuts for millionaires, and protect tax breaks for corporations shipping jobs overseas;
Voted to strengthen the role of special interests in our elections (by ending the Presidential Election fund that promotes small campaign donations) and against disclosure of foreign countries, companies, or individuals donating to presidential campaigns;
Voted to cripple public radio stations, particularly in rural areas, while not saving taxpayers one dime;
Voted to cut off key federal funding for Planned Parenthood — devastating the primary source of health care, especially preventive services like contraception, cancer screenings, breast exams, and HIV testing, for millions of women across the country; and
Voted for an unprecedented, radical assault on women’s health care – for the first time restricting how women with private insurance can spend private dollars in purchasing health insurance.
So far the big signature achievement of this GOP majority was the vote to kill Medicare, but they may soon top themselves if they do not vote to raise the debt ceiling and allow the US to default.
The House GOP has also vote against 10 Democratically proposed job creation bills including:
An American jobs effort to end government contracts rewarding corporations that ship American jobs overseas. [Vote 19]
Build America Bonds to Create Jobs Now Act – leveraging public dollars to strengthen the private sector, growing our economy by rebuilding America’s schools, hospitals, and transit projects, supported by American businesses, the construction industry, mayors and governors. [Vote 38, Vote 30, Vote 189]
American Jobs Matter Act – to give preference in federal contracts to U.S. manufacturers that create jobs here at home. [Vote 257]
National Manufacturing Strategy Act, which calls on the President to lay out a plan to help ensure American manufacturers can compete, grow, and thrive. [Vote 279]
Advanced Vehicle Manufacturing Technology Act to help ensure the cars of the future are built here in the U.S., by investing in a broad range of near-term and long-term vehicle technologies to improve fuel efficiency, support domestic research and manufacturing, and lead to greater consumer choice of vehicle technologies and fuels. [Vote 310]
Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act to provide our government with effective tools to address unfair currency manipulation by countries like China, which could help create 1 million American manufacturing jobs by leveling the international playing field for American workers and businesses. [Vote 9, Vote 199]
The House GOP has passed more bills related to defunding Planned Parenthood (1) than they have passed to create jobs (0).
The day after the GOP took base the House, John Boehner said, “As you heard me say last night, we are humbled by the trust that the American people have placed in us and we recognize this is a time for us to roll up our sleeves and go to work on the people’s priorities: creating jobs, cutting spending and reforming the way Congress does its business. It’s not just what the American people are demanding — it’s what they are expecting from us.”
We are a little past the 200 day mark and the House GOP have yet to pass a bill that would create a single job. The only spending they are willing to slash is related to the poor, the disabled, women, Social Security and Medicare, but they have changed the way that the Congress does business by being so hardline that House of Representatives is irrelevant as a policy making body and has become an obstacle to agreement on even the most basic of legislation.
House Republicans have pulled a bait and switch on the American electorate. They ran a campaign based on job creation, but once elected set out to implement a corporatist and socially conservative agenda. This is no different than the bait and switch that Rick Snyder and Scott Walker pulled on voters in Wisconsin and Michigan.
How many Americans would have voted Republican in 2010 if they knew on Election Day that the GOP agenda was not to create jobs, so that they could possibly defeat Obama in 2012?
The truth is that House Republicans have no interest in creating jobs, because a prosperous economy would mean the reelection of Barack Obama. For this reason alone, it is a safe bet that the number of bills that House Republicans will introduce to create jobs between now and November 2012 will remain at zero.

America gets what it deserves. The stupid vote, the rest do not, and get what is coming to them – a dirty country run by an oligarchy while the Dominionist Bible thumpers seek to create an all-white, conformist society of zombie morons.
Now please return to your sports obsessions, video games, baby butt wiping and Wal Mart shopping.

There are plenty of us that have a significant education and care enough to research and vote. The problem resides in there being 200 people who blindly agree with those who think for them to every ONE of us who don’t utilize blind faith in a corrupt party and take the time to realize what our “representatives” actually stand for and what the basis of the legislation they are pushing on us.

stereotypes help no one. I may live in this country where we are fighting against the rich, and doing what we can to survive against the corporate big wigs but I DO NOT shop at wal mart, I DO NOT have children or play video games, and you’re an idiot if you say people are stupid for enjoying sports. pretty sure your country probably LOOOOOVES soccer.
we may live here, but at least we’re fighting being closeminded and trying to turn our country around. what are you doing besides being hateful and stupid on the internet? if you’re not helping, you’re hindering. maybe your country should teach you that, because thats what mine has taught me.

The Republicans haven’t got a CLUE, but they just keep singing the same old song. And like a broken record, just as worthless.

Stop picking on the GOP. Come on they had a job creation plan. Not their fault someone threw the notebook in the trash. Poor guys have been busy fighting to get rid of those scary squiggly light bulbs. As far as the old, disabled, and poor I mean they may not make it to vote and their so darn expensive to keep alive. What do you expect them to do?

The ONLY jobs conservatives care about are Chief Executive Officers. As long as the rich and powerful have their tax cuts and are raking in record profits, this whole profiteering scheme at your expense will continue. Look at the chart at the bottom of this article: newsjunkiepost.com/2010/1...
It clearly shows that Democratic Presidents create FAR more jobs per year. In fact, during the Bush/Cheney regime, there were only 1.08million jobs created total, which is a ridiculously low 135,000 per year. This is deliberate folks, fiscal conservatives literally WANT high unemployment because it makes the “work force” (that’s you) poor, hungry and desperate. You are nothing more than property to them, as long as you allow yourselves to be slaves that is.

Thank you for bringing this up, it is totally true and needs to be pointed out. I was just thinking about this, it was supposed to be ALL about JOBS, well here’s the proof thanks to your reporting, that it was all BS.

Of course they have created jobs!!! Due to a few extra million unemployed people, there have been at least 10 to 20 people handled to handle the unemployment paperwork. Probably a few extra people hired to operate the payday loan scam shops as well. See, they have contributed… They ran on a “JOB creation” platform, not a “JOBS creation” platform, clearly they GREATLY exceeded their expectations.

Jul. 25th, 2011 at 11:33 pm
OK, true enough, but see, I deducted the jobs they killed from the job they created (also, they hired extra staff to handle angry citizens – MORE jobs!) and I am still at negative million.8.9999. Still, I guess they can say the created a job, just not a NET job.
Whhopsie, those jobs are “government jobs” and government jobs don’t count as “real jobs”, so now they’re at a negative 2 million. Damn.

Well, duh! Republicans don’t believe government can create jobs, and if it does they’re just making sure they’re eliminated so no one has to suffer under the awful yoke of a regular paycheck with decent benefits.

How ANYONE could have BELIEVED Repubs and Teapubs is beyond me to start with! OF COURSE THEY WERE NOT GOING TO CREATE JOBS ON PRES.OBAMAS WATCH! Not ONE of them gives one damn about ANYBODY not rich-that I KNOW. i see today,where all the wealthy folks out East,send their children to summer camp by CHARTERED PRIVATE PLANES! An one mother said”Oh,I dont care for the summer camps here_I send my kids to ENGLAND FOR SUMMER CAMP!” DOES ANYBODY GET THAT THESE ULTRA RICH HAVE NO IDEA, NOR DO THEY CARE,ABOUT” real peoples”LIVES!?? No matter what,we HAVE to trust President Obama,because we have” NOBODY On our side,if he is gone,with these NUTS running things! Good Lord-a Mess!

The Teahadists are a wierd bunch and not terribly bright. They think that by getting rid of PBS, foriegn aid and the Dept. of Education (2 percent of the budget) the deficit will be reduced. Meanwhile Medicare and the military are to be untouched (40 percent of the budget.) Fortunately for them, Soc. Sec. is funded differently and would be unscathed for the most part. Aug 3 will be an interesting day.

So the evil republicans in the House passed these job killing bills and then somehow convinced the democratically controlled Senate to approve the job killing bills and send them on to Obama who signed these bills into law? Did he forget to read them?
This is typical propaganda from the left designed to enrage your basic liberal who is too busy Facebooking to check if the story is true.

Lets do a typical experiment that 1st grade kids do.
Re-read the title:
“In 200+ Days The House GOP Has Voted To Kill 1.9 Million Jobs ”
Does “has voted” ring a bell?
Im sorry, your post has no validity and shows the tiny brain stem activity of a tea bag

Jul. 26th, 2011 at 10:32 am
I’m sorry but your reply has no validity.
Let’s do a typical experiment which first grade children also accomplish:
“Im” is not a word and you should rarely, if ever, place a comma after the word “but”.
FYI – The headline is perfectly valid. Headlines are not subject to grammar checking. It is a commonly accepted fact due to their exclamatory nature.
Shiva (Moderator)
Jul. 26th, 2011 at 10:36 am
I guess if you have to resort to grammar checking you are absolutely admitting you had nothing.
Some of the bills were passed. Most of the bills were exactly as the title said, the GOP voted on them.
so shall we try again?
“the house GOP has voted to kill 1.9 million jobs and created zero”
I hope that helps

Let me see if I get this straight. Republicans want to maintain tax levels of the 1950s. They also want to limit government spending to similar levels. We live in a 21st century economy. This makes no sense to me. I could not live in a cardboard box today on 1950s wages. How can anyone expect a nation to work in the 21st century with early 20th century economic policies?
Despite being told the “household economy” metaphor doesn’t work, politicians love to return to it. So, I will speak their language.
Okay, GOP and Tea Partiers, in the 1950s, minimum wage was 75 cents an hour. That’s about $30 a week, or approximately $120 a month. We’ve now reduced our “revenue” to appropriate levels, but our “expenses” remain at 21st century levels. So, like the R’s and TP’ers,we make cuts to services we receive…We cut cable, trash pick up, and all phone service entirely. At nearly $4 a gallon, a car is unthinkable. So, that leaves rent and utilities that must still come under $120/month. I challenge ANYONE to let me know where they can rent for under $120/month. Notice, expenses like food, insurance, and basic medical needs are also eliminated. So, just to survive, my hypothetical household will have to INCREASE REVENUE. It seems like Basic Economics to me.
If the country is our household, taxes are our job. If you’re taking up more of the household, and enjoying luxuries many can only dream of, but not doing your job around the house, you’re a freeloader at best and a criminal at worst.
F Joy

Jason this is the most concise representation of what has happened to our country since the Tea Party took over the House of Representatives and have been holding the country hostage ever since. This demonstrates the real significance of every single vote placed in America. The midterm elections literally produced a nightmare for our country and a true breakdown of the government. But that was apparently their goal and they’ve done a damn good job of it while putting everyone’s livelihood at risk…..except for the millionaires and billionaires. And since the billionaires are controlling the world right now with bought and paid for congressmen and supreme court justices, we have to march on Washington and flood our congressmen with protests from now until the next election. And then we can vote Democratic (excluding most Blue Dogs) and then give President Barack Obama some substance to work with to actually change this country for the better. We could get people back to work, our social programs back on track, our communities safe and secure, healthcare for all, education for the future, clean energy, climate control, and scores of other policies that keep us the greatest country in the world! We have a great President who has integrity, intelligence, focus, vision, fairness, sense of protection, and a versatility designed to include all. Everyone that’s a candidate in the GOP is known for lies or misleading facts, lack of compassion for the poor or middle class, and operate only on behalf of special interests and the big oil companies. Some are bigots. We really have to take our right to vote seriously. If you noticed, the GOP is also trying to destroy those rights as well. The GOP is about feeding the greedy rich more which is going into gluttony. They want the middle class and the poor to be enslaved or drop off the face of the earth!

What job did they creat before Obama? They had the power then. What they created was death, a tax cut for themselves, and profits for the oil companies and their buddies. Who are the kidding? Now they want to destroy Social Secrity and Medicare. What bunch!

Never seems to amaze me how 2 face Republicans can be . We tell the people what they want to hear to get elected and once in office we will do what we want to so to hell with the rest of you.
You know Hitler did this during WWII . Do what I want or else. It is my way or no way suckers. THis is the time we need to not forget what is happening that when 2012 comes around I am calling on all the American people to kick every Republican to the gutter and let them suffer like the rest of us.
Us Older and Disabled Americans have paid our taxes to get these benefits if we were to need them. I am one who is barely surviving on these programs and I thank the people who established them for doing so. Now let them alone. Quit taking things away from those who need it the most . Tax the hell out of the rich and businesses.
