Irony: Registered Republican Tries to Vote Twice, Gets Arrested
It turns out that voter fraud is tough to get away with, so Republicans should relax. That is, unless they are the people trying to vote twice.
A registered Republican was arrested by the FBI on Friday for trying to vote twice in Henderson, Nevada. Roxanne Rubin tried to vote twice at two different polling locations. At the second location, they checked her name in the database and her name came up as having already voted. Ms. Rubin tried to claim their database was wrong, and that she hadn’t voted. But they weren’t buying it.
An investigation ensued and she was arrested at the casino where she works on Friday.
Voter fraud is a felony. It’s always been a crime, this is nothing new. Republicans should know this, since they have billboards around the country warning voters about the fact that voter fraud is a felony.
So far this year, we’ve had a rash of Republicans under investigation and/or arrested for a myriad of voter and election fraud charges. It’s a good thing Republicans drew so much attention to this issue. Much of America never knew just how much criminal activity the Republican Party was engaged in, but now, thanks to their attempts to disenfranchise minorities, they are making headlines as alert officials take election and voter fraud more seriously.
Due to concerted efforts by Republicans’ to intimidate and disenfranchise voters, the UN will be monitoring our election closely and the DOJ has been dispatched to several states. Of course, if Republicans really cared about voter fraud, they might think twice before voting for Mitt Romney, who claimed to be living in his son’s basement in January of 2010 so that he could register and vote in the Massachusetts special election to replace Senator Ted Kennedy. Romney did buy a townhouse in the state in July of that year, after the special election. However, it is alleged that he was actually living in California at the time of the election and therefore did not meet the residency requirements of Massachusetts.
Republicans are being hoisted on their ACORN petard this election cycle. Schadenfreude anyone? James O’Keefe, where ever you are, thank you.

There are some defenses that are no longer applied in the new rule such as when she was a child someone abused her that’s why she acts like that, nah!! You are going to jail. There is no difference between bad guys on the Street and Republican, Conservative Party. Crooks are just playing the movie, but the stories come from politicians in the office.

The term “Big House” has referred to federal prisons in general long before the U pasted that moniker on the stadium in Ann Arbor.
A little education goes a long way.

While the GOP is trying to intimidate voters who tend to vote for Democrats, they have been engaging in the worst kinds of voter fraud and voter registration fraud that can be imagined. It is a laughable irony that one of their own has actually been caught attempting voter fraud. I wouldn’t be surprised if all we got concerning this issue is a deafening silence from them. They are the masters of projection, so it’s quite possible that they would try to find a way to blame this on Democrats.

To be fair, every year there is somebody forgot they mailed in their ballot and then go in to vote. A very good reason we need to register everyone by social security number in a national database. No more “tossed registration forms”, no more “registration errors” disqualifying voters, like transposing address numbers, bad spelling, etc. SS knows where everyone lives, who has died, who has changed their last name. Nearly instant update. Absolutely unique number. Unlike how a person looks after losing 50 lbs, changing hair color, etc. No more long registration lines, it would just be for people who currently moved, currently changed their names. And it shouldnt matter where a person lives, a ballot could be printed out for that person based on their address if they find themselves somewhere else.
We need a single standard, nationally based election laws. Same number of days and hours for early voting. Let all felons vote (actually I think they should be allowed to vote while in prison too, like other civilized countries). And a single type of voting apparatus with paper ballots, programmed by a government non-poliltical IT like the CAB does for economic analysis. With complete transparency of code posted to the internet.

These are great ideas Ingrid! I also believe there should be a web page or a county agency that we can go to and check and see how our vote has registered. If we find it registers as being for someone other than who we actually voted for then the paper ballot would be there to prove it if someone tried to change our vote.

Before the religious looney tunes took over, one of the most dearly held tenets of right-wing conspirators was the threat of a National ID. Or any government issued ID. They considered government ID a step towards communism and slavery.
Now, tiny schoolchildren have to wear their IDs at all times.
Perhaps we should start a ‘fashion ID’ or just make one up or switch with a co worker.
The last idea scare you? Why?

That system is already in place and has been for 20 years. No one gets to vote more than once now that we have computers. Unless someone actually has a second identity, including photo and signature ID there is no way they could vote twice. I am not just typing this, I am a poll clerk and know exactly what happens because we are trained how to deal with people who try to vote twice.

This is an interesting and light hearted comparison of your voting system and the one in Australia run by the Australian Electoral commission.

This election is about whether or not We, the People, ever again vote in this country.
If the GOP takes over the Legislative Branch and the Executive Branch this cycle, they’l install a radical Right-WingNut Judicial Branch; this will guarantee the loss of just about all of our Freedoms.
The Constitution was torn up by Karl Rove via George W. Bush, but the job was not finished in time; Rove is still at work. He and his minions (Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, et al) strove, unsuccessfully, to block EVERYTHING the Democrats tried to do. They met before Barack Obama uttered the first words of the Oath of Office, and swore to do so.
What they agreed to do falls under the definition of TREASON. They DELIBERATELY acted against their Oath of Office and worked AGAINST the Government of the United States of America, in order to take our government down.
If the GOP gets a death-grip on our government, in today’s caustic environment (brought on by Karl Rove and his minions) this country will be gerrymandered to the max, guaranteeing NO Democrat can ever win elected office for the remainder of this century.
Mark my words — and I’ve been saying this since 2000 — we have been witness to the seeds of Civil War being sown in this country.
Those seeds are now germinating.
We still have time, but if we don’t act SOON to prevent this War, I guarantee what has been sown will take root this country.
And it won’t be pretty.

When a party can no longer run on their ideas, because their ideas are wildly unpopular and throwbacks to a less progressive time, you have this kind of desperate attempt to stay in power.
I’m making a prediction, the Republican party will be extinct by 2050. Our country is progressing and leaving behind their ideas, and it terrifies them.
When all the old white males who vote Republican die off, then we’ll see something interesting happen.
