John Boehner Implies Raising Taxes On the Middle Class Instead of the Wealthy
On Fox News Sunday, John Boehner said it doesn’t matter where new revenue comes from, but he ruled out raising taxing on the rich, which leaves the poor and middle class to foot the bill.
Here is a transcript of the exchange between Chris Wallace and John Boehner on Fox News Sunday,
CHIRS WALLACE: You talked about the fact that the President won and you came out with a concession the day after the election and they point out that the president campaigned on raising tax rates, you know, and it was the big issue, between him and Romney, and, they say, just as he had to cave, after your victory, in the 2010 midterms, now, it is your turn to cave on tax rates.
JOHN BOEHNER: Listen, what is this difference where the money comes from? We put $800 billion worth of revenue, which is what he is asking for, out of eliminating the top two tax rates. But, here’s the problem, Chris, when you go and increase tax rates, you make it more difficult for our economy to grow, after that income, the small business income, it is going to get taxed at a higher rate and as a result we’re gonna see slower economic growth, we can’t cut our way out of this problem, nor can we grow our way out of the problem, we have to have a balanced approach and what the President wants to do will slow or economy at a time when he says he wants the economy to grow and create jobs.
What Boehner was implying here was the Romney/Ryan tax plan. There aren’t enough loopholes to be closed in order to generate the revenue need, and if taxes aren’t going to be raised on the wealthy, who is going to pick up the tab? Some House Republicans are suggesting that we adopt Ryan’s plan of putting a cap on deductions, which would absolutely destroy the incentive for charitable giving.
Related clip from the same interview of Boehner talking tough on the fiscal cliff:
The reality is that does matter where the money comes from. The past decade of Bush tax cuts for the wealthy has demonstrated that lowering taxes at the top does not spur economic growth, but raising taxes on the middle class could cripple the economy. The Clinton administration is proof of the kind of growth that can be accomplished by raising taxes at the top and lowering them for everyone else.
Contrary to Republican belief, what Obama is proposing is not some untested theory. What the president is proposing has been proven to work. The tax plan that Republicans are advocating is based on ideological belief system, not economic fact.
The idea of extending tax cuts for the wealthy, while raising taxes on the middle class was already rejected by the voters less than a month ago at the polls. If this is their position, the GOP isn’t just running towards the fiscal cliff, they are committing political suicide by jumping off.

He is tripling down on the double-down and saying that supply-side/trickle-down/voodoo economic is the answer, when the Congressional Research Service analysis the House Republicans tried to quash shows that trickle-down economics does NOT grow the economy and only serves to transfer wealth upward.
Therefore, for him to saw that we need to continue a failed economic policy in order to save the economy is a public farce.

It’s good that the Republicans want to solve America’s debt problem that was caused by the Republicans in the first place. Seems to me that the best way to solve America’s debt problem is to get rid of Republicans.
The debt problem will be solved by raising taxes on the wealthy and increased spending on infrastructure and social programs, and of course increase manufacturing here in the US. As the economy improves and people are working, the deficit decreases; as we increase revenue from taxing the rich more and creating jobs, the debt problem takes care of itself. The only thing that could stop that from happening are Republicans.

He seems to think that getting rid of certain deductions isn’t raising taxes, From where I sit , if you can’t deduct certain things your taxes go UP. I am so tired of this jerk who seems to think that he gets to call the shots on everything.

Here we go again! Are they really that stupid to thing that the public doesn’t know what they are doing? The Republicans gerrymandered their home districts to populate with ant-tax constituents and now the Republican congress is scared of not being re-elected if the go with any tax increase.

If it doesn’t matter to Boehner where the money comes from why raise the taxws on those who can least afford it? if it truly doesn’t matter then lets put this up for a national referendum and implement the results. Boehner knows he’ll lose but keeps digging in his heels anyway.

John is endlessly entertaining. He either doesn’t perceive his own hypocrisy or thinks that we’re all too stupid to notice.
What really excites me is that Grover and the whole anti-tax infrastructure won’t object to raising taxes on the middle and lower earners… That’s okay.
But their moral umbrage at the notion that those earning over $250,000 per year might have to pay out 4.6% more on every dollar of AGI over $250,000… Well, that outrage is not to be borne! That dastardly move would instantly plunge the U.S. in to a crippling recession.
What a bunch of buffoons this crew is. I wonder if there is a prophecy somewhere that starts out with, “And a clown shall lead them…”.

That has been this fool’s intention all along, right in step with his fellow GOP troglodytes in Congress. The last thing he wants is to have to compromise with the president. All these losers, who are acting like they haven’t lost, want is to protect the uber-wealthy at the expense of everyone else.

To John Boehner
I’m so tired of your pompous plutocrat Republican talk. Always protecting your fair haired plutocrat friends how they must remain untouchable by the subservient slaves of life. Well its about time we tell you how its going to go. And how we can have something without there approval. You are very mistaken about us. I hope we take you and all your plutocrats right off the cliff. They don’t deserve to live in society with the people that made this great country what it is today. They are not Americans. They live here and that’s all. I hope the POTUS does just this.

Boner is a plutocrat himself. If he raises taxes on the top 2%, hell, he is shooting himself in the foot. (Use a double barrel). To my President : The cliff won’t be so bad, Do Not Compromise US, for Boners selfishness. NO to Earned Benefits cuts, we are not entitled, we earned it, unlike Boner. No to Keystone pipeline, no need to have a repeat of BPacross half of America just to increase Boners stock payout from Trans-Canada. GOP, we will not be moved by your fear mongering! STOP YOUR OBSTRUCTIONISM or prepare to pack ur bags in 2014. A elephant NEVER forgets… neither will the 98%.

America is watching! We elected President Obama for the 2nd time because the American middle-class is fed up with the top 2% hoarding most of our hard-earned money. The President knows he was given a mandate to raise the tax rates & close overseas tax havens on these robber barons and to keep their hands off Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. If the President & Congress don’t protect us, there will be a fierce response from the electorate, similar to the massive Vietnam & civil rights protests. We are finished getting screwed.

What is their problem with doing anything – ANYTHING – that’s in the best interests of the vast majority of Americans? If current rates – always meant to be temporary hence their expiration date – were going to cause the rich to create American jobs and prosperity they would have done it by now. You ‘d think we were talking about some previously unheard of horrendous burden rather than just a return to rates from the 1990s, still far lower than most countries and than what we had here in the ’50s,’60s etc. Times when we were prosperous actually. As for the super-wealthy, they’ll never feel it they couldn’t spend what they’ve got in a hundred lifetimes, and they get the benefit of living in a country where everyone else does the jobs that protect their lifestyle – military, police, fire, emts, etc etc – and they should have some interest in maintaining a society where the rest of us get to enjoy life enough that we don’t resent them and their excesses too much. (Yes I know some of them do wonderful things for others – and some of them don’t, as is their right.) But Boehner and some of his cohorts act as though anything that helps the average person is poison to them. Do their districts actually consist of all wealthy people? As for their claims about small business, they use a very odd formula to classify “small” businesses. One that includes intrntl corps with thousands of employees. Not what most of us mean by small business.

Movement is afoot to replace Boner. There is a campaign to tell him to lead his caucus or get out of the way. Even as far as resigning from Congress. Let’s make an effort to have him to the latter. Call his office, twitter him or email him at speaker/gov/contact. He is officially crazy, like McConnell.

The most despicable politician I can remember. If this is a game both sides is playing, it is a dangerous game for both them and the country. I’ve had enough of this. Time for us to take our government back from the fascist GOP.

Let’s see more of Boehner’s tears, cause he’s hurting his party and himself. Are they all drinking from the same trough? Maybe they all need psychological testing, as they don’t get it, YET! If my taxes are raised, it will hurt businessess, as I only need necessities. No Starbucks, dinner at a local restaurant, I am a survivor. I can’t say that about the GOPOers(Get Our Profits)!!!!!!

Why not cut congress pay to middle class rates and having them pay for half their health care cost’s. Would love to work as few day’s as they do and have nothing to show for it. How many bills made to the President to sign or veto, because so few made to the floor. Congress needs to do the job we are paying them to do, find common ground and build on that. Stop talking to the press and start working together or get out of the way. If Boehner and his lot worked for any of my boss’s they would have been FIRED a long time ago.
