The White House Calls Out John Boehner’s Lies On Taxing The Rich
By: Guest ContributorDec. 14th, 2011more from Guest Contributor
During a press briefing today, Press Secretary Jay Carney called out John Boehner and the GOP for the bogus reasons behind their refusal to raise taxes on millionaires.
On another note, before I take your questions, I just happened to be reading before I came back here to speak with you an account of an encounter that the Speaker of the House had with reporters this morning, and I had to laugh because he was asked, the Speaker was, about whether or not he could name any small businesses that were affected by a surtax on millionaires and billionaires, the likes of which the Senate Democrats have put forward as a pay-for for the payroll tax cut extension and expansion.
He said a lot but he didn’t name any, and the fact of the matter is, it’s more evidence that the number-one talking point of Republicans in refusing to ask millionaires and billionaires to pay just a little bit more so that 160 million working Americans can get a tax break is bogus, even by their definition of small businesses, which allows for investment advisors and law partners and others who file their small business — their business income under personal income at more than a million dollars — it’s still fewer than 1 percent of all small businesses.
So I just urge everyone who reports on this, when they dutifully repeat the pushback from Republicans about why doing what the American public overwhelmingly supports is not a good thing to do, that their number-one reason for that is false. Just not backed up by the facts.
The Obama administration is trying to put pressure on the media to actually report the facts about increasing taxes on millionaires and billionaires, but as we all know the mainstream media has no time for facts. The point is that when the media actually pushes the Republicans about why they don’t support raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires, they can’t come up with any specific examples that would be hurt by the increase.
The reality is that the “job creators” are a myth. There is no evidence that increases taxes on the wealthy will prevent jobs from being created. This is nothing but a tall tale woven out strands of tattered conservative economic ideology first attempted by Ronald Reagan. There is no factual basis for the Republican opposition. Boehner and the GOP will stubbornly attempt to defy the will of the people, but the question is, how long will they be able to continue to say no to the desires of the electorate that they represent without jeopardizing their political future?
The statement from Carney was striking in its directness. The White House isn’t arguing this issue anymore. The Obama administration is calling out the lies of those who are standing in the way of taxes being raised on millionaires and billionaires. There isn’t going to be anymore pretend discussions about the job creators. The White House is coming after the Republican Party on this issue, and you can count on President Obama challenging the false reasoning of the GOP.
Republicans can continue to fight for the interests of the few, while Obama battles for the 160 million Americans who would benefit from an extension of the payroll tax cut. This is a trade that Obama is happy to make.

The 1.9% surtax Dems are proposing don’t kick in until you hit $1,000,001. That means on the SECOND MILLION one makes, they will pay an additional $19,000. And average Americans are willing to take from the middle class and poor for that?

While Obama and his administration’s jabs to the Republicans on taxing the rich is all well and good. It is hugely disingenuous when it was Obama that requested Congress to grant him the power to silently vanish any American citizen from their homes on US soil and permanently spider hole them in secretly built Haliburton prisons simply on the ACCUSATION of being somehow possibly tenuously tied to terrorism without due process or legal recourse.
Couple the NDAA with SOPA and you quite conveniently have all the powers of a dictator. The President would then have complete control of the information that all US citizens are allowed to receive as well as the power to totally crush any opposition.
Obama may have the sense to restrain himself from abusing these powers. But what if Newt wins. Those secret prisons have the capacity to hold over 2 million people. TWO MILLION! The Occupy Movement will be the first to disappear. Who’ll be next?

Admiral Taptap you are a liar, and not a very good one. You are being paid to spread lies and propaganda, and no one is falling for it. I suggest you find an honorable occupation and do something that actually strengthens our country, instead of tearing it down.

Have you not been keeping an eye on the news you twit. Obama has agreed to provisions on the NDAA bill and it looks as though it will become law. That means that, yes, anyone construed as being a terrorist or aiding them can be indefinitely detained. No trial, no jury, but detained with an undetermined review period to see if it is ok to let you go free yet.

Derek would you mind showing me where the good Admiral has made any lie or misstatement? Also, would you mind, terribly, Showing me your documentation concerning your claim that the Admiral is being remunerated for relating the truth? If you cannot do that, I would suggest that you report back to your Teabagger handler and get out of my space, Hater.

“POTUS Obama does NOT have the votes he needs to sustain a veto of this bill….House Democrats/Republicans will override his veto, and the military in the mean time need funding, so while all you Americans are bitching & moaning over a law signed by the past POTUS, over the past 48 years, read the guts of the bill….unless you are a terrorists, and suspected of terror activities…..did I repeat this enough so that all you “intelligent” Americans understand the bill?
Here’s a suggestion for the future…..read and research and investigate BEFORE you post, comment or debate issues, just so you understand what it is you are arguing and debating about…..make sense?”
NDAA Law…Reading Comprehension IS Fundamental !!

By Jueseppi B. If you ever needed proof that the average American is as dumb as a box of rocks, just pay attention to all the misinformation and lies circulating over bill H.R.1540 or S. 1867, ..

Except for one fundamental concept you are missing. ANYONE can be said to be taking place in terrorist actions and will have NO recourse to dispute it.
Anyone taking part in any action either protesting or attacking the state can legally be detained under the patriot act which covers whatever this bill doesn’t cover.
Do try and be more conversational and less annoying

You must have missed the written objection the President wrote to the NDAA, but then, with all of that tin foil, we should cut you a break and I urge everyone to send you get well soon cards to the FEMA camp Michele Bachmann so astutely warned you about years ago.

There is not now, nor has there ever been anything that Boehner has said that is true. Adding the pipeline that he says will create jobs yet demanding the layoffs of 200,000 government workers to pay for the payroll cut is hilarious. He is not interested in a single job and the people that support him just got the finger from him. But they will continue to feed from the trough as he kicks them in the head.
