If John McCain Knew About Benghazi Security Issues Why Didn’t He Do Something?
During the Senate hearing into the Benghazi attack, Senator John McCain grilled Hillary Clinton about cables she read, when she knew they needed more security, and what the administration was doing during the attack and after, why the President didn’t disclose sensitive information to the public regardless of what the Intellgience asked for, etc. In the midst of this questioning, John McCain says that he knew Chris Stevens well, and that on July 7th, Stevens expressed to McCain his “deep and grave” concerns over security in Libya.
Starting around the 5:00 minute mark, Senator McCain expresses that Chris Stevens told him directly of his deep concerns over the security in Benghazi.
Watch here via NBC News:

Senator McCain: “You knew Chris Stevens very well. I knew him very well. I knew him on July 7th when I went to Libya to observe the elections and at that time, on July 7th, he expressed to me his deep and grave concerns about security particularly in Benghazi. He continued to communicate with the State Department and I don’t know who else as proven in those cables of his deep concern about the security there and the need for additional assistance.”
Why didn’t McCain do something about this information? He certainly knows Hillary Clinton well enough to have sent an email. He knew the House Republicans were holding up funding for security in Libya. Why didn’t McCain say anything then?
Conservative policy makers were so alarmed by House Republicans’ actions that they wrote them a letter, warning them that they were emboldening the enemy. They summed their letter up with this, “To cut off funding for current efforts would, in short, be profoundly contrary to American interests.” Surely McCain remembers his friend Lindsay Graham (R-SC) saying House Republicans obstructed Libya because Obama was President.
Should McCain not be held to the same standards to which he’s holding the Secretary?
It’s not like McCain is not on the Sunday talk shows almost every other weekend. Certainly if McCain had information he thought was relevant, he could have raised a fuss on TV. He could have brought attention to the matter.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton even brought up the congressional holds to aid to Libya and the House holds on bilateral security assistance (my emphasis):
“With respect to helping the Libyans, and that also goes to the question Sen. Rubio asked, we will provide a list of everything we were doing and were attempting to do, but I will also tell you that since March 2011 congressional holds have been placed for many months for aid to Libya. We’ve had frequent congressional complaints. ‘Why are we doing anything for Libya? It is a wealthy country. It has oil.’ Disagreement from some sources that we should have never been part of any UN mission in Libya. Currently, the House has holds on bilateral security assistance, on other kinds of support, for anti-terrorism assistance. So we gotta get our act together between the administration and the congress.”
If it’s fair enough to grill Hillary Clinton for an entire day over how she doesn’t read each cable sent to the State department, shouldn’t we also be asking why a Senator with relevant information didn’t express the information that he had to anyone who could do something about it? McCain was the Chairman, at the time, of the esteemed Armed Services Committee. He is also on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Certainly he had access to both cameras and to people who could have addressed this issue.
We should be asking why McCain and other Republicans aren’t coming down on the House for their holds on security and aid, especially in light of McCain’s concerns over continued militia forces in Libya. And we should also be asking John McCain to whom he forwarded these “deep and grave concerns”. After all, if he believes that this is so important that intelligence should be breached in order to serve transparency, surely he is willing to put up his own emails and cables for examination.

Hillary should remind him of his tale of knowing where Bin Laden was which he kept to himself and that if he were elected POTUS, he would get him.
I don’t believe for one minute Christopher Stevens had any such conversation with this lying opportunist.

If John “get-off-my-lawns” McCain wants to lead his fellow “morons-in-crime” into openly politicizing his stupidity, then we should all step aside and give him, (and his fleas) all of plenty of room! Let the him and his tribe of old white men become pariahs like the bible commands. Let them wind up on the outskirts of the “village” in rags, flogging themselves and yelling their warning to passer-by’s, “Disease! Disease!” as was the custom in biblical days (it’s in the bible, ya’ know, sky-gods says so, no tag backs!)…or, put him on a mountain top on a winters night with just a blanket, as his family walk back to the helicopter, waving back, saying “bye grandpa…you lead a good life!”

John McCain demands that the public should’ve known about Benghazi within days. I wonder why John McCain doesn’t tell us what he knows about the banking industry and how it thrust millions into poverty almost overnight. I wonder what else John McCain is hiding that the public should know about.
The man is just about one of the most useless people who thinks he is important in our Congress.

Let me get this straight: McCain claims he knew about security weaknesses at the Benghazi consulate, but kept the information to himself until yesterday, is that about it? If that’s the case, then I see only two possibilities: either McCain’s lying about what his ‘friend’ Chris Stevens told him, or he’s a traitor. What’s it going to be, McCain?

Brilliant post Sarah. I don’t know about anyone else, but I would question the statement that McCain knew this info earlier and that Mitt Romney saying all he needed was a foreign policy crisis if all else fails to get the presidency; and then how the GOP jumped all over this even before any deaths were even reported. The GOP seemed to know more than anyone. And how convenient for the GOP Congress to withhold funds in the process. President Obama got play for keeping troops off the ground in Libya. McCain, as I recall wanted a fly over to attack. This is just another element and approach to try to destroy the POTUS! They keep trying but they keep failing. Hillary was masterful. I guess they forgot what it was like to deal with a Clinton who could beat them at their own game. With the bull crap the Bush administration carried out and ignored during their administration, they all should be locked up. What was Bush doing on 9/11 while the US was being bombed? He continued to read books to the children. What price did he pay for starting a war that cost the US 4000 lives and billions and billions of dollars with so called valid but lying intelligence? This is another fabricated scandal like “Fast and Furious” that is designed to smear and destroy President Obama and the democratic party. The GOP can only win by lying, cheating, destruction and obstruction. I rest my case.

I have felt this Benghazi thing was a set up and they are using this to embarrass the President and Hillary. McCain is complicit in this and should be called out for his treasonous traitorous behavior. I thought it was a little too convenient when Rmoney came out the next day attacking the President. Who’s to say some right wing loyalists in the CIA set this up? From what I have seen of the GOP they would not stop at anything to go after President. Something really smells rotten about Benghazi.

Who (in my opinion) are the ones that should be held Responsible and Accountable for having Directed “Our” Military to go to War under “false-pretenses”; W M D…(for corporate gain; in-my opinion). If this allegation can be Proven in a Court of Law; They both should be given the maximum sentence possible. Because A lot of Innocent people on Both Sides of the War have Died for no good reason. Is this site a branch of MSNBC? Is there anyone on this site who doesn’t get “a thrill running up their leg” when discussing Obama or the Dems?
OK this whole discussion needs a good dose of common sense and objective thinking. And please answer these questions!
1. If it really was the supposed refusal by the GOP to fund the Lybian Embassy security, why did someone in Obama’s administration concoct that lie about an obscure YouTube video that caused the rebellion?
2. Instead of Hillary declaring “I take full responsibility” (yea right). She didn’t seem to know crap about what was actually going on (how convenient). So who really WAS held accountable with the four deaths? Why didn’t she say right away that she tried to get more security but the GOP kept her from obtaining more security.
3. And why were the ex Seals told to “stand down” several times before they defied orders and went to their aid anyway? Who told them to “stand down”?
3. Who is responsible for the funding that the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt is getting from taxpayers? Is that Obama or the GOP?
4. Who actually did come up with the YouTube video as the lame excuse as to why this happened?
5. Why exactly was Ambassador Stevens in Lybia in the first place?
You see Obama was constantly bragging how he decimated Al Quieda which was meant to deceive … so this assault on the Embassy weeks before the election was especially ill-timed and would hurt his bold statements on his success against the terrorist group.

This is easy research you could do yourself if you wernt so lazy
You should be able to answer #1 yourself. At the same time as Benghazi there were protest riots all over the middle east over the film.(the obscure film that wasnt quite so obscure). Everyone assumed this was about the same thing. In fact most beleive the actions taken by the terrorists were caused by those riots as they seen an opportunity.
Lastly, Benghazi was a listening post. It was not an embassy. It was a safe house more then anything. Further, in countrys around the world embassy personal depend on the host country to provide protection. Lybia did not do that.
You are helpless arnt you. Cant do a thing for yourself. Breitbart? Fox? Let us know where you get your info.
No you see, Obama has decimated AQ. But that doesnt mean that all the members in all the country’s are dead.

Are you really this ignorant about the Middle East? There were 12 attacks that day. 11 were directly caused by the film, only one was pre-planned (but the timing was still tied to the film protests…opportunity taken). There were cables coming in from everywhere. CIA and FBI were blaming the film for everything. Press was clamoring for comments. If a mistake were made, it was talking to the press too soon without all the info in. The FBI and CIA are asking that more info not be given to protect security…and you call that coverup. As info comes in and investigation is made, revisions to information is revealed, and Cons call that lying. Meanwhile, Romney is giving a press conference,…in real time…as the attack is going on. I’ve always wondered how he knew the full story of the attacks and while they were ocurring! How? And isn’t it odd that the man who made the film was Romney supporter? Talk about conspiracies!
And please look up the meaning of ‘decimate.’ It doesn’t mean what you think it does. And every time some headway is made on eradicating terrorist groups, the Conservatives do something bone-headed to drive up membership in terrorist groups.

Liberals never accept responsibility for ANYTHING. It’s ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS somebody else’s fault, blame BUSH, blame anybody, blame a YouTube Video. When the truth is available, Obama wraps it in “Executive Privilege”, something never before done in the history of Presidential actions, unprecedented for a President to claim something from the Justice Department as some kind of Executive thing that was so sensitive between Obama and the Justice department, that it had to be covered up (the Fast & Furious program). You never see anybody being fired over their actions on the democrat side of things. But let a Republican do the slightest little anything, a Senator or whoever it was who was arrested for tapping his foot in a public restroom which was supposedly some kind of signal that you wanted gay sex or some crap, and that guy was run out of town on a rail. So don’t expect any liberals to ever take responsibility for anything they do.

Executive Privlege never done before??? Really?? The Republicans *invented* Executive privlege. Look up how many times Nixon used it.
Liberals don’t accept reponsibility? Clinton did just that and had resigned. But if something is Bush’s fault, why should we say otherwise.
Bush’s economy, his foreign affairs debacles will be haunting Americans for generations no matter who is in office.

The bottom line of the dance Mc180Cain did with Hillary Clinton was he going on for the TV and right-winged version that he chastised on and on and she shot him down just like she shot down Ron Johnson. Both men were playing to the FOX-hole and Toxic talking Heads who would spin this speech of Mc180Cain into what they wanted to hear. Clinton was right to question why nothing was being done to release Congressional hold on money, supplies, support and security services for protecting the Lybian Embassy workers. Mc180Cain set his new standard for a triple twisting, double-WTF illogical struting dismount, while Clinton held her cool replying in a calm tone thus defrocking this naked TEA-Republican. Career TEA-Republican politicians like him should be removed quickly before they fully demoralize their already wavering base. Mc180Cain is too closely associated with Paul Ryan, Todd Akin, Roger Rivard, Rick Berg, Richard Mourdock and John Koster(all R) who wanted to define rape to their determination and treat women as chattel. “Sweep the HOUSE CLEAN….in 2014″
