John McCain Does What Romney Won’t: Demands Apology from Richard Mourdock
Unlike Mitt Romney, John McCain won’t continue to support rape pregnancies are “God’s will” Richard Mourdoch unless the Republican Senate candidate apologizes.
In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper tonight, Senator John McCain broke with Mitt Romney and said that he could not continue to support Indiana Senate Candidate Richard Mourdock unless he offers an apology for saying that pregnancy after rape is “something that God intended to happen.”
TRANSCRIPT:
COOPER: Senator John McCain made some news on this when I asked him earlier if he still has – well, if he still supports Mourdock.
COOPER (on tape): Do you still count yourself in his corner?
MCCAIN (on tape): It depends on what he does. I think it depends on what he does. If he apologizes and says he misspoke and he was wrong and he asks the people to forgive him, then obviously I’d be the first – you know, as I said, I’m not sure how big a mistakes that I’ve made. But, you know, in the years that I’ve been around, I’ve made a few, Anderson, and I’ve asked for people’s understanding and forgiveness when I won’t — when I own up to it. It’s when you don’t own up to it when people will not believe you.
END TRANSCRIPT
McCain is not the only Republican to stand with decency. Of course, McCain doesn’t harken from the same Republican Party whose platform this year seeks to make some forms of birth control illegal and he probably doesn’t quite get that Mourdock didn’t misspeak. It’s hard to watch your beloved party taken over by extremist nut jobs. Certainly no presidential candidate could be that extreme….
Unless their name is Mitt Romney and they tell the public one thing and their base another, while their 1950′s policies tell the real story.
Romney has not even asked Mourdock to stop running the ad in which Romney endorsed him. You have to wonder why Romney chose this guy as the only Senatorial candidate he cut an ad for in the general election. Isn’t judgement a part of being president? What exactly did Mitt Romney see in Mourdock that made him cut an ad for him?
And once again, we have to ask, if John McCain, who ran and lost in 2008, has more judgement and character than Mitt Romney, then what is Mitt Romney doing running for President?
This is just the spark the Democrats needed to get this party started. They can now put Mitt Romney in the position of doubling down on Mourdock or denouncing his comments and withdrawing his support, including demanding that the ads featuring him be taken down.

I think that NO ONE should support Mourdock even IF he apologies. He said what he thought, and what he thinks is just WRONG and offensive to all women. If he apologies now it will be only because he doesn’t want to lose votes.

I now have reason to think less ill of John McCain and in fact, and believe me, this really HURTS but to say something nice about him.
First: for telling that woman during his campaign that so insulted Obama that he was NOT a muslim and that he was a nice man who just happened to differ with him on issues (all paraphrased here.)
Second: for finally drawing a line somewhat in the sand that he will not cross in this war against women.
Third: I don’t know and don’t care if his daughter was adopted or if she was the result of an affair, but I DO know that he loves her, cares for her, supports her and wants her, even if she does have a “permanent tan.”
I don’t think the GOP has had a civil attitude toward campaigning since.
But, as one of the last commenters above said, NO ONE should support Mourdock even if he does apologize BECAUSE HE SEEMED VERY SINCERE WHEN HE MADE HIS STATEMENT AND I BELIEVE THAT IS TRULY HOW HE FEELS.
Just as Romney revealed his true self with his 47% remarks, so has Mourdock and ANY apology would only be part of political strategy, NOT from the heart.

This is what happens when religious zealots are accepted as viable candidates for public office. The Republican Taliban.
Man once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the sport of every wind.

I’m tired of this shit – I misspoke, I’m sorry if anyone was offended, my words were misconstrued, taken out of context, etc., etc.,. An apology simply is not going to cut it, John McCain has no right to accept an apology, and any woman who goes all soft and forgiving if Mourdock mouths one is an idiot. These guys mean what they say and if they get into power women’s lives are going to become a living hell.

I agree, they can apologise and say they misspoke, but not one of them admits to being wrong, ridiculously, outrageously, wrong. . They’re only “sorry” they got caught saying it in public. I wouldn’t have accepted that weak an apology from ne of my children for doing something wrong. Empty words don’t indicate a true change of heart.

If he apologizes, McCain will support him.
F.U. McCain.
Why??? As we’ve watched Romney, words are hollow — meaningless and it’s no different with an apology. They are all prepared to say ‘anything’ to be elected.
An apology = words to fill the air as there will be no truthfullness backing those words up.
I’ve always believed that ‘what first comes out of your mouth is your truth.’ Good, bad or indifferent. Anything after that may trying to walk it back as to not upset/hurt someone, get yourself out of a jam or in this case, meet an agenda goal — get elected.

sorry but macain may be old and revered by many but he’s so full of it, he says, freudian slip an all, “when I won’t — when I own up to it. It’s when you don’t own up to it when people will not believe you.”

sorry, but john mccain still remains a hollow man who sold his soul down the river long ago. goes back to the keating scandel, then supporting bush/cheney on the iraq war, and the economic policies that devistated the economy. then having that dimwit sarah palin as a running mate and saying that she was qualified to be vp or even president, when in fact he hated her guts. then voting along with the rest of the republicans in the senate to filabuster and kill the veteran’s job bill. and now this. and now this. i don’t give a good god damn if murdoch apologizes, it wasn’t a “misspeak”. he meant and believes it. mccain has followed along and allowed the republican party to be taken over by thugs and hoodlums. haven’t heard a word from him about voter suppression, voter fraud, voter intimidation. why, because he sold his soul and is nothing more than old white man, selfish and mean. john you are null and void in my book.
and romney, if he had any character in him what so ever, 10 seconds after murdoch said what he said, he should have pulled his support and demanded that the support ads be taken down and chastized him for such an arrogant, stupid statement. the rethuglican party has become just that…thugs!!!!

John McCain, when are you going to apologize to the country for picking Sarah Palin? And after all she has done to stir hatred for President Obama, you still stand behind her. This hatred speech has got to stop! We have been waiting for you to apologize for 4 years! It appears that the Republicans say anything and some may apologize if they caught, some may not. I don’t want these men to have any say in how we run our country.

Ah, but…but old man McCain is very cagey, folks.
There’s another element to this hollow response.
McCain knows that if he lives (he’s looking worn-down and pretty craggy) through his term, he’s going be looking at the face of Richard Carmona as new Senator of AZ.
(He probably supports the guy behind the party’s back).

I could not possibly care less about what the man who unleashed Sarah Palin on the nation says about who he supports or doesn’t support.
The guy said what he meant – an apology doesn’t make it “all better.” If he apologizes for it and says he misspoke, that would be disingenuous because he clearly believes what he said. An apology now would be hollow and insincere. He believes what he said. End of story.
McCain might accept an apology from the guy but I don’t think the women of this country will accept it so easily. I know at least this woman will not.

How could any woman ever vote for the Romney-Ryan-Akin-Mourdock view of the world? Unless…
This is a remake of The Stepford Wives, but it’s not a movie, it’s too real. Just get a look at ANY of their wives. Downright bizarre.
The men in this group love talking about rape, and the women have no problem with it.
McCain: Too late for apologies. Sorry.

I found reason to admire John McCain in the past even during the 08 run for president although I voted for the president. Once again I admire him. He possesses qualities mitt romney doesn’t, spine, strength of character, conviction and compassion for his fellow man. Apparently these are qualities the right dislikes as on Nov. 6th I’m convinced rmoney will garner more votes than John McCain did. Fairly telling about what the right values. The ability to make money no matter at what cost is more appealing than a brave war hero who has the courage to stand up for his beliefs.

McCain, from the crazy state of Arizona where bigotry and hate is the norm. He is all over the map I think this is an attempt at saving at least partially his political career. He is walking the fence, he has to know by now that Romney isn’t going to be elected. It is going to be interesting to see how cooperative he is with our President Obama’s policies after the election. Well he continue to be an “obstructionist”?

If any one should apologize it should be John McCain for picking Sarah for V.P four years ago. He as said he has made mistakes in past, but the GOP has never forgiven him for that V.P. pick. I don’t
