Bill O’Reilly Wants Jon Stewart To Help Push Fox’s Common Obama Smear
Bill O’Reilly has challenged Jon Stewart to a debate on Common which is designed to push the latest Fox News anti-Obama smear.
Here is the video from Fox News:

O’Reilly began, “Now last night on his program Jon Stewart avoided the cop killing deal concentrating on the good he sees in Common.” After playing a clip of Stewart, O’Reilly said, “Ok fine, I’ll take Mr. Stewart’s word for it, and again, I’m not objecting to Common’s poetry, just his pro-cop killer stance in two separate cases. Stewart went on to say that singers like Johnny Cash and Ted Nugent use violent lyrics in their songs, and that’s true. Stewart then linked Cash to George W. Bush and Nugent to some Fox News analysts. That is a classic defending dubious behavior, Common, by pointing to other dubious behavior, Cash and Nugent. That argument gets us nowhere.”
Bill-O then challenged to Jon Stewart to a debate, “No lies here, Jon, and I would like to debate you. I would like to debate you about the Common situation, because it’s important. This is far beyond dopey lyrics, and dopey presentation. Again, we don’t care about that. What we do care about is the President of the United States understanding that there are elements in this country who are subversive. Imagine what the mothers of the slain police officers thinking when they see a guy like Common in the White House. I mean Joanne Chesimard who killed New Jersey State Trooper Warner Firster was a member of the Black Liberation Army, and now she’s living in Cuba, and Common thinks she’s swell. Come on. ”
He concluded, “So with all due respect, I think Jon Stewart made a big mistake running down Fox News and defend Common, and I look forward to Jon Stewart coming on the program, The Factor to discuss it.”
O’Reilly really tried to drive the point home with his repeated use of the phrase cop killer in that segment. Bill O’Reilly wants to confront Jon Stewart on this because a debate would help to legitimize the Fox News’ claims that Common’s White House appearance is an issue. In reality, there is nothing to debate. The Common controversy is a ginned up attack on Obama that is designed to push the message that the President is un-American.
By appearing on Fox News to discuss it, Stewart would be giving credibility to a smear against Obama. Every time Stewart and O’Reilly hook up, it is ratings gold for both. What could be better for Fox News than to have the host of a popular program with younger viewers come on their network, and hopefully bring some of his viewers, who can exposed to their anti-Obama propaganda? Fox News would be using Jon Stewart to help push a baseless story.
As far as any kind of debate is concerned, Stewart has owned O’Reilly in the past, and will continue to do so in the future. There are lots of issues out there for Jon Stewart and Bill O’Reilly to debate, but a debate about Common would only help the Fox News agenda and be a waste of Stewart’s time.
Another Stewart/O’Reilly segment would be great, but the focus of the debate should be how Fox News can justify smear campaigns against Obama as news.
Jon Stewart should pass on O’Reilly’s proposed Common debate, because Fox News doesn’t need his help to push their Obama hate.

O’Reilly and Hannity should be ashamed of themselves. O’Reilly is at least college educated, and could have read to the end of the lyric for the meaning. Hannity doesn’t read, like Palin, he just grafts onto controversy for ratings. But Bill should know better. Taking things out of context is their stock in trade. It really galls them that this black man has helped kids and the poor, you know, all those people who should be able to, in this ‘exceptional’ country, find ways to fend for themselves. Because they give nothing to causes but their celebrity presence, they are enraged when people actually give of their money and talent. Humanity does not exist at Faux Noise. Sometimes I wonder if they are not robots over there.

This black President has just eliminated the greatest cop- killer and firefighter- killer in our history, and these bigots use a link to a link to a link to tar him as a cop-killer. They put the pick in picayune, the hideous in invidious, and their speciousness makes me wonder what species they are.

I really hope no one’s surprised by this. Honestly, more people know Common for his acting than his music, and people in Chicago likely know him for his charity work. This is ridiculous. I’d rather see Common debate O’Reilly than Jon, though it’s fantastic to watch Jon demolish him. Common can stand up for himself.
What amazes me is that decades later there’s still an underappreciation for gangsta rap in predominant culture. It’s art and self-expression in its own right. 2Pac had some AMAZING music and a lot of his songs contained brilliant messages. The man himself was incredibly smart and gifted. But because mainstream didn’t agree with the lyrics or the empowerment behind them, they wrote 2Pac off. It’s sad.
Common is a great story for underprivileged youth. Besides if Ice-T can play a cop on tv…

This is just ridiculous… it’s hard to believe there are people who take Fox seriously… It’s just pathetic.

The notion that all police and law enforcement officials are “noble and doing it to serve their community” is a farce. I’d bet the amount of wrongdoing done to blacks by law enforcement officials far outweighs the inverse.

President Obama is really anti-cop, so anti-cop that he had a ceremony to honor the National Association of Police Organizations TOP COPS in the Rose Garden of the White House on May 12, and that was yesterday!

Hannity doesn’t read because before becoming a newsmodel asspuppet he was nailing on roofing tiles on tract homes, and listening to the G. Gordon Liddy show while muttering about them negroes and damn liberals. And Mr. Loofa was making obscene phone calls to one of his fellow employees. By the way, O’Really, How is Miss Mackers?

I actually think it is a good idea for Jon Stewart to go on Fox. A survey (Pew, I think?) suggested that the ridicule from Daily Show and Colbert Report were partially responsible for Fox’s flip-flop from the “most trusted news station” to “least trusted news station,” particularly among younger people. And that demographic is the most sought after by advertisers.
If more people who watch Fox are exposed to Stewart and his obvious sharpness and ability to out-argue O’Reilly, perhaps they will be more inclined to turn into the Daily Show and get a more regular dose of Stewart exposing Fox for its lies and hypocrisy.
Fox does not need Stewart to get more attention, unfortunately; but Stewart can certainly take advantage of Fox to lure more viewers to his show and away from Fox.
