Jon Stewart Tells Rumsfeld and Cheney Obama’s Transgressions Do Not Wipe Away Theirs
By: Hrafnkell HaraldssonMay. 16th, 2013more from Hrafnkell Haraldsson
Speaking of what he calls “Hurricane Scandy” and the “shitstorm that is rocking the Obama administration,” Jon Stewart on Wednesday reminded the pair of war criminals, Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, of their own past transgressions.
Watch courtesy of Comedy Central:
Calling Rumsfeld “Señor WMD Migilicuddy Esq.” Stewart asksed,
You believe the Obama administration is promoting a narrative? Not because it’s real but because it fits their hopes and what they want to be the case? You? The guy who wanted to go after Saddam Hussein on 9/11 while the President was still reading ‘My Pet Goat’? You? And somehow managed to make that attack happen even though Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11? ‘Rumsfeld’ is German for promoting a narrative because it fits your hopes and what you want to be the case. It is the rare German word that is actually shorter than the thing it is describing. So no. You alone don’t get to come to the victory parade for the Republicans. You’re the only guy who doesn’t get to weigh in.
Enter Cheney calling Obama a liar: “Did I say one guy?” Stewart quipped.
Stewart tells Cheney,
You do not get to use the L word. In fact, you don’t even get to watch the L word. After the lies you told, you don’t get to doubt anyone’s credibility. If a baseball breaks your window and your grandkid walks through the door with a baseball bat and tells you that Zack and Cody from The Suite Life did it while they were playing a game with Sponge Bob, you just have to f*cking choke that down.
Stewart allowed that while people are entitled to their moment of “righteous” Schadenfreude, he reminded them that ”history didn’t start Friday, and Obama administration transgressions do not wipe away yours which are many und grievous.”
Stewart’s critique reminds us that Republicans and the mainstream media have an interesting relationship with Bush and his legacy. They ignore Bush when possible – sometimes it’s as if he never existed – and we see his sins assigned instead, magically, to Obama.
The Republicans are not the aggrieved party here: that would be the American people, who were led down the primrose path by these criminals and then gang-raped in the bushes (pardon the pun) while the world alternately laughed and cried. Rumsfeld and Cheney are the architects of that crime and as Stewart reminds them, they of all people have no right to criticize now.

In my family, there are two generations of veterans (Viet Nam/Iraq-Afg) and, when we all get together there is one word, one name you never, ever say; Rumsfeld.
If if is “spoken” by mistake, they all turn and say,
“Did you say Rumsfeld?!”, as in the old 3 Stooges bit known as “Niagara Falls”.
Ackh! Faaah! Nasty!! We don’t talk like that…Faaaah!
Go wash your mouth out with soap!

you left out the part about the no-bid contracts that Cheney’s buds got to “rebuild” Iraq. and the skids of bricks of $50 bills that his buds’ operatives were invited to fill their briefcases with. With no accountability, no record-keeping, blah blah blah..the story is so old by now and yet people still call these swinish thieves “patriots.”
kinda makes you wanna–jeez, I dont know what..

Rumsfeld and Cheney sent 4000+ men to their deaths for Cheney’s lies. Rumsfeld and Cheney killed over 100,000 people with their acts and didn’t blink an eye.
It’s pretty obvious to me that you want to see more Americans die by your calling them patriots.

No, both Rumsfeld and Cheney are sociopaths.
They are not patriots. They are authoritarian, anti-democracy, war-mongering, torture-loving government parasites.
They are a prime example of the why the GOP is currently losing its way.
And when you think about it, they are also playing from the same outdated GOP playbook.
But in the case of Rumsfeld and Cheney, trying to deflect blame from your own faults by attacking an opponent for the same thing just ain’t going to cut it.
They both need to STFU!!!! They both should be in jail, but since that’s appearing to become less and less of a reality each passing year, I’ll take the STFU, instead!

“Rummy is a great patriot that Stewart will never be.
Cheney is also a patriot. It is unfortunate that the Dems demonize the great leaders of our times.”
Rummy: nothing says “great patriot” like shaking the hand of the man you will later wage war against . . .

‘lil dick: nothing says “great patriot” better than taking FIVE student deferments to avoid service in Vietnam . . .

At least Bush is not adding his opinion— he doesn’t want any more attention before he begins his prison term.

Isn’t old crow Cheney one of the most vile and despicable excuses for a human being ever to set foot in the White House? He’s a vulture and a war-profiteer whose effigy should be lit afire in the streets every day he still walks around a free man. See some art and words defining his role in architecting a Society of Fear at dregstudiosart.blogspot.c...

Hello Brandt Hardin,
You and others are so full of hate that you do not appreciate the good work Cheney and Rummy have done for this country. We are safe and free because of their hard work.
I also like Obama so do not pre-judge me.

if good work is killing over 4000 of our own soldiers for nothing, and 100,000 people in Iraq for nothing then I guess that’s good work. Cheney has done nothing good in his entire career. Rumsfeld is been trying to get us to go to war since he was in the Nixon administration. Neither one of the two kept us safe. All they did is create more hate and more dissension. We have more people in the Middle East that hate us because of them than anyone. I’m going to prejudge you and say that you don’t like Obama at all. I seen your previous post

Also, Mr. Moderator and Daniel Berry, NYC,
War cost money so the cost must be borne by all freedom lovers. The threat from Islamist is real and Rummy and Cheney have shown that we the People of the US will not stand down in the face of terror. Bush did the right thing and Obama also knows this. This is why Gitmo is still in place. You must learn from my old country (Israel) that we must keep the Muslims on a tight leash. This is an evil ideology and will only rest when the world has become islamic. I believe in a secular world, not a terrorist world.
Long live the USA and Long live Israel.

the war was for no reason at all. Iraq was no threat to the United States. The entire country knows that Bush did not do the right thing. And gitmo has nothing to do with war. Most of the people there were enemies of the people we went to Afghanistan originally to help.
Let’s face it, Israel is not much different than the Muslims. If they could they would be slaughtering Muslims right and left. The United States is the only country that stops them by paying them parasites money

I see you agree with the cost of war should be shared. Now tell us again why the republicans for the first time in history cut taxes and refuse to pay for the cost?
