Keith Olbermann Destroys Michael Bloomberg With An Epic Special Comment
This is not safe for work due to it being an epic Keith Olbermann rant involving several rather satisfying curse words directed towards Mayor Bloomberg for his raid on Occupy Wall Street.
Keith takes Bloomberg down for his hypocrisy. Getting all riled up about the (god*amn) Batman movie shot in New York that Bloomberg was all too happy to shut the 59th St bridge down for while handing out huge tax breaks to the producers, Keith points out that Bloomberg wouldn’t let the people use the Brooklyn bridge.
Keith summed it up with calling for Bloomberg’s resignation. “Michael Bloomberg, you have now indeed become a symbol of the Occupy movement. You are ready to take your historic place with Mayor Daley and Governor Wallace and Sen McCarthy and Prime Minister Grenville and every other idiot who has made the fateful and fatal mistake of thinking that just because he has power and money, that this is nation in which everything has a price tag on it.We need you Mayor Bloomberg, to keep making these mistakes….Your nation needs you! Occupy needs you! Bloomberg now, Bloomberg tomorrow, Bloomberg forever!”
And by the way, Mayor Bloomberg’s arguments about “health and safety” trumping free speech aren’t looking so hot. The Guardian reports:
Constitutional lawyers said health and safety was unlikely to trump the first amendment. Darius Charney, attorney with the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR), said the right of people to assemble peacefully in political protest was one of the most fundamental rights under the first amendment.
“In my view, the health and safety issues are rather minimal in comparison to the first amendment issue,” he said.
All speech is protected under US law, but political speech has the greatest legal protection.
This is still America. Solidarity, Occupiers. The world is watching.

Freaking awesome!! Olbermann for president! I do believe the 1% is scared to death of the 99%. They should be, especially now. The hope of real freedom is in the air. Shame on all you mayors who are stifling the 1st amendment. Some of you would never have gotten where you are without it. Seriously, maybe its time to retire, especially you Bloomberg. You don’t need the bucks and could hang with your corporate security thugs all day, gleefully reflecting upon your abuse of power and citizen harm.

So…. How much money does Keith Olbermann have? A Quick Google search indicates he has a net worth of $35 million, earning over $750,000 a year. And he’s slamming ‘rich people’? $35 million sounds pretty rich to me. What if he took some of his millions and handed it out to the occupiers? Isn’t that what they want? People who have more than they do to give them handouts and pay their tution and bills because it isn’t ‘fair’ that someone else has more than they do?

Obviously you’re missing the entire point. As I would suspect. He is not slamming rich people, he is slamming rich people who go against what’s right, the Constitution, and common sense. You listened to his entire rant and you totally missed the point?

Only a mental midget can over simplify Olbermann’s message. He is talking about the abuse of power by those, because of their position in government and financial status. The Occupiers could not give two cents about the rich, except when they get rich off the backs of the middle class and poor. They are standing for what is right and most people agree with them. The rich and corporations are the people who got us in the economic situation we are in. Lets also call the politicians who cater to the rich and corporations to the carpet too. They all feed off each other. Tax cuts and subsidies to entities that don’t need them. You are totally off the mark. I got it, you too are clueless because you are a 1%’er.

“In my view, the health and safety issues are rather minimal in comparison to the first amendment issue.”
I thought it has been pretty clearly set that this isn’t true; the old “You can’t yell ‘Fire!’ in a crowded theater” example. Now you can argue about the imminent threat of Occupy but to say that the first amendment trumps everything is a wild overstatement.

Yelling “fire” in a crowded theater is not protected political speech. Political speech is distinguished from other speech and given the highest deference.
If inciting actions that endanger the health and safety of the public were that easy to prosecute, FOX news would have been the first to go.

I like Keith Olbermann. But I also like Batman.
I’m very torn, now.

Nov. 16th, 2011 at 6:35 pm
LOL!
On a total side note, though the Batman movie did shut down the upper level of the bridge (not the whole bridge) for the weekend, most of the movie was shot in Pittsburg and LA because NYC refused to let them shut down large parts of the city to traffic for extended periods. And the NY Tax Credit more than pays for itself and brings jobs and tax revenues to our city in difficult economic times, even though shoots are a pain in the butt sometimes.
But Keith’s point is well taken. =)

doesn’t sound to me like you get anything. Keith had been negotiating for over a year to get out of his contract at MSNBC. He was not fired or kicked off
Are we to assume you are against everything that you said?

@Shiva: Do you work at NBC because you are wrong.
Did anyone watch the Bloomberg video immediately following Olbermann’s rant? The occupiers are free and welcome to go back to their protest. Cleaning up two months worth of mess and making it safe to protest seems pretty reasonable. If someone died in the park during the protest, Olbermann would be ranting about the lack of protection for the people. I am opposed to modern day robber barons and government idiocracy and believe OWS should have their time. But Olbermann is a prime candidate to lead the few and the inept in their march for idiocracy. The problem with Olbermann is that he has always had the unique ability to “destroy” any hint of a valid argument.

I am not sure what I am wrong about here. He had been negotiating to get out of this contract for over a year. He was not fired.
At the time of the Olbermann rant no one was free to go back to the protest.

Uh….Hey Keith. There is a difference between people without a permit occupying a bridge, adding nothing to the economy, and a movie production paying for a permit, employing local film workers, and adding to the local economy buy purchasing and renting equipment, food, and wardrobe from local businesses. Traffic gets messed up on any location shoot. Again, Keith has no idea what he is talking about here.

Commissar Bloomberg did what every dictator has done in the past century… muzzle the Press. You can support the Occupiers or dis them… but you have to ask yourself “what does The Commassar have to hide?” The fact that members of the Press were denied access to the site and that they were actually assaulted by “New York’s Finest” makes me VERY concerned about our future. If the Commissar can get away with it under the guise “protecting the media”.. who will be next?

When Bloomberg gave those lazy butts a portable potty I lost it. I work my butt off to have a pot to piss in. I work many jobs, I work many hours for the pot I piss in. In fact if I didn’t work or have my own pot to piss in I would have to spend money to piss in someone else’s pot. If those men and women lazing it off at Zuccotti Park worked, they could piss and poop in the restroom provided by their employer, AND be contributing memebers of society.

Really by costing small business money by blocking people from getting in. Blocking a bridge so people can’t get to work. That’s how idiotic this is you acctually think the 1% drive to work they live in Manhattan. You aren’t working for anyone but yourselves. Get a job like everyone else or work 2 you don’t start at the top you work your way up like everyone else. I know OWS r babies by the way Kieth puts these people on that got pepper sprayed and they r going to have long lasting effects. The police officer’s get sprayed or tazed b fore they can use it and military you have to go into a gas chamber for 1 min without a mask and it is worse than pepper spray i know because i went throught it. So OWS needs to grow a pair and grow up!!!
