The Koch Brothers Turn On Chris Christie and Warn Him About Setting Up Obamacare
Most people understand that public servants, especially politicians, serve the people and part of their service includes following the law according to their oath of office, but Republicans reject the law when it contradicts ultra-conservative think tanks funded by wealthy industrialists Charles and David Koch. The Constitution is clear on how legislation becomes the law of the land, and one expects elected officials to reject special interest groups demands when they oppose established law, but over the past four years Republicans have demonstrated their disdain for the Constitution when neo-conservative think tanks have a different agenda.
The Affordable Care Act was hotly contested after it passed both houses of Congress and President Obama’s signature making it a legitimate law, and after it was upheld in the Supreme Court, one thought Republicans would finally accept that it cleared every legal challenge and begin implementing provisions at the state level to help 20-30 million Americans get access to affordable health care. One of the mainstays of Willard Romney’s campaign was his promise to repeal the ACA on his first day in office that not only displayed his ignorance of the repeal process, but also his lack of concern that millions of Americans would once again be at the mercy of the predatory health insurance industry and suffer from lack of healthcare. However, Romney’s defeat was not the end of the battle over the ACA and, as expected, Republican governors are doing the bidding of the Koch Brothers to frustrate the health law’s implementation.
The Koch Brothers think-tank, Americans for Prosperity, handed down a warning to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie for not rejecting provisions in the ACA to submit health insurance exchange plans ahead of the health law’s full implementation. Republicans were already furious with Christie for praising President Obama’s rapid response to the super-storm Sandy that ravaged parts of the East Coast last week, and now the Koch Brothers are pressuring him to reject a New Jersey exchange bill to rebuff the ACA’s requirement before a November 16 cutoff date for states to set up health insurance exchanges. If states fail to set up the exchanges, the federal government does it for them and the provision gave individual states leeway to set up a healthcare marketplace according to their resident’s needs.
The New Jersey chapter of Americans for Prosperity sent out a press release Thursday questioning Governor Christie’s obedience to the Koch Brothers and encouraged him to accept the “burden on the states to thwart” the ACA because after Republicans lost the election, “Congress will not be able to repeal the law.” The press release cited “other conservative governors across the country like Bobby Jindal, Rick Perry, Scott Walker, and others have already taken a principled stand,” and questioned whether Christie “will prevent New Jerseyans from having their health care choices controlled by federal bureaucrats? Or will he continue to go along to get along with Barack Obama?” Now, the issue is not whether Christie is going along with the President, but rather, will he be vindictive and take away the state’s right to set up their own exchanges or leave it to the federal government. Either way, the health law will be implemented.
The conservative governors are not thwarting implementation of the ACA, because if states refuse to set up their own health insurance marketplace, the federal government will do it for them according to provisions of the ACA. Republicans like Jindal, Scott, and Perry epitomize why this country suffers from divisiveness and it is founded in Republicans’ refusal to follow legally passed laws under the Obama Administration. Besides pure vindictiveness targeting any law President Obama signed, this issue exposes a larger problem facing this nation and it is whether or not the Constitution or the John Bircher Koch Brothers are the law of the land. The Americans for Prosperity press release cited Republican governors “principled stand” against the health law, but their refusal to set up exchanges will not stop it’s implementation. This incident is not about the health law, but about who controls Republicans.
The Koch brothers have not always been antagonistic against Christie as long as he followed their edicts, and last year David Koch praised Christie for pushing legislation the Koch’s ordered Republicans to support. Koch praised Christie for eliminating public workers’ right to bargain collectively for health benefits, and for pulling New Jersey out of a Northeastern states regional cap-and-trade market to curb industrial greenhouse gas emissions. Christie said in October he would wait for the outcome of the election to decide whether or not he would set up health insurance exchanges, but the Koch’s Americans for Prosperity memo warned him there are harsh consequences for any further pro-Obama apostasy.
Republicans spent billions in the election to undo legislative achievements of the Obama Administration by supporting Romney’s failed bid for the presidency, and looking back at Willard’s promises to repeal the health law, environmental protections, Wall Street and banking reforms was part of a bigger plan to eradicate the President’s accomplishments from the historical record through repeal and elimination. Romney’s opposition to the President’s achievements put him squarely in line with the Koch brothers and their attempt to rule America through the Republican Party, and the Kochs have willing participants throughout the GOP who agree that America is destined to be governed by a handful of wealthy industrialists and plutocrats with total disregard for the Constitution, the people, and legally elected representatives.
If Republicans and Romney wonder why they lost the election, they should look more at whom they swore allegiance to and not only their racism, religious extremism, and Dark Age position on social issues. The Republican opposition to the health law is pathetic on its face, but it is representative of the larger problem of their opposition to democracy. The health law legally passed both houses of Congress, the President, and Supreme Court, and now that Republicans are unable to repeal it, at the direction of the Kochs they will “take a principled stand” to show their disregard for the legislative process and the will of the electorate who gave the President a mandate to govern based on his record. Republicans need to re-evaluate more than just their anti-government, anti-woman, anti-equality, and un-American agenda and consider that they are serving the wrong masters, because voters decide elections; not the Koch brothers or their John Birch think tanks.

Doesn’t matter what the Kochs or the GOP want. Chrities is pissed at them – and he SHOULD be. When the people of his state took a mindnumbingly horrible hit, Mitt & the GOP didn’t give a damn about anything but their own political needs – they still don’t!!
His state is still suffering. His people are devastated, and the GOP is acting as if it all never happened.
You know who talks to Christie regularly about his state and how to help his people? Of course you know – we all know – Obama, of course. And we know Obama, unlike the GOP, really does give a damn about the people of NJ.
Anyone who thinks for a minute that Christie’s going to play games now with health care for his devastated state, or do anything to delay or hinder it just to show political solidarity with the assh*ts who tried to play him after Sandy hit, has not been paying attention to who Christie is.
I’m no fan of his, but I do believe his heart has been broken for his state, and I believe he deeply resents an expectation that he would cooperate with any attempts to use his people’s misery for politics.

I am extremely skeptical of of the above article. The Affordable Care Act (ACA) is the Republicans dream of Universal Health Care and has been for decades. Arch capitalists like the Koch brothers are not really opposed to a bill that entrenches control of health care to health care profiteers of the private sector. That ACA puts health care under the control of Federal bureaucrats is utter nonsense and fantasy. ACA is corporate welfare on a grand scale and health care profiteers will not allow repeal of ACA and any Republican politician who actually tries to repeal it will soon feel the rath of the insurance companies and robber barons like the Koch brothers. Republicans know they cannot repeal ACA, that its mandate is upopular but they can use it for a political football to rile the unthinking public. Were you listening to the debates when Obama said “its a Republican bill”.
Get real! Why haven’t Republicans revealed what their alternative is? Its because ACA is their alternative.

This is exactly what the founders of the US feared, especially Jefferson. That economically powerful unelected people would usurp the reins of power. And yet the Koch Roach brothers will shamelessly quote the founders especially when it comes to First Amendment free speech rights.
It is obvious that the Koch Roach brothers have a different idea about First Amendment rights. For them and their ilk (ultra wealthy investors and corporate executives) first amendment rights go beyond openly and publically expounding politically unpopular opinions. To the Koch Roach brothers and their ilk their first amendment rights include intimidation, coercion, and bullying political leaders who stand up and push back. Everyone else’s first amendment right is simply freedom of speech and of the press. There must be either a constitutional amendment or a strong law nullifying this kind of nonsense that the Koch Roach brothers are doing. Limit their first amendment rights to only what the other 98% of the people are allowed to do.

Actually, what you stated towards the end is correct: the cadre that controls the Republican Party is anti-democracy. Their Friedmanist wing is anti-democracy, and their Dominionist wing is anti- democracy. Both types have expressed discontent with the fact that as long as the ewepeople vote, they are likely to vote to divert resources away from their masters’ interests and towards their own. They want “stuff”: public schools, public roads, a public health system, decent working conditions, minimum wage, an even break, a fair shake, a level playing field, and a hand up for those who are knocked down. This last election cycle, racism, sexism, and bigotry were not sufficient to get enough of the ewepeople to vote against themselves. Watch out, then. The ALEC class may decide to do it Santiago-style soon.
Daddycool
Nov. 12th, 2012 at 11:59 am
And they’ve somehow got about 40% of the country voting to make sure that none of the resources get diverted toward the people and instead keep flowing to the top.
They have millions of people truly believing that poor people and minorities who want “stuff” … and people who need food and/or medical care are the cause of all of America’s problems.
They are honestly convinced that we voted for Obama to remain our President, only because he’s gonna give us “stuff” that we want and that he promised us.
It’s absolutely disgusting. As long as we have people who think like that as neighbors … America will go NOWHERE except backwards.

My great fear from the Koch brothers and their more-or-less anonymous ilk is that their goal is a fascist state with some kind of puppet (Romney would have been perfect) in the White House and a totally ignorant and compliant Congress and Supreme Court. The Koch family history does not bode well for their involvement in US politics. Until the Republican Party decides publicly and permanently to rid itself of the “Tea Party” canker and to give up its near-total reliance on funding by the wealthiest we will all be in danger.
I certainly hope that Christie can show some real intestinal fortitude and tell the Koch Brothers and their bogus Americans for Prosperity where to go and that place should be far from anywhere in the US.

It’s time to shut that attitude down, and let people like the Koch brothers know there are ‘things’ in this country we find more important that someone’s wealth. The election was most certainly a strong message to start with, but our work is not over until they understand there is power for the people of this country, and it’s not in their big money. Greed, intimidation, and fear is what has directed so many of our people these past few years, but I think we are seeing a more intelligent voting public, not so readily compromised by the propaganda put out by the right wing bullies.

I think the libertarian Koch Brothers have used up a lot of political capital and are coming to realize that money buys only so much of that.
Americans are truly tired of their government being bribed by very wealthy men…and resisted their candidates to send that message.
Maybe if the Koch Brothers types have a message to say to America, they’ll do it with reason, and not with mountains of negative ad money. Maybe they know, however, that ordinary Americans aren’t that interested in helping them acquire more wealth.
I’m still perplexed why the MOST wealthy among us don’t stop, have a come-to-Jesus meeting with themselves, and decide that enough money is enough money. As Peggy Lee sang, “Is that all there IS?”
I certainly wonder why it hasn’t occurred to Mitt and Ann that they had enough money a long time ago and it became immoral to lay workers off for personal profit. But that obviously never occurred to them….and that’s absolutely why I fought to keep them from running the government.
They just didn’t get what the job required. I hope they realize how most Americans have rejected what they stand for, even if they are good parents. The guy fucked thousands of people with a self-appreciative smile on his face. Definately a Mormon, not a Christian. And not what we wanted for a leader.
Now the Republicans need to figure out how that conclusion applies to THEM if they hope to stay on the national stage.

Greed means that there is never enough, even when you’ve got it all. “Good Christians” think that wealth means God is blessing you, and don’t realize that what Jesus said was “Blessed are the POOR“, not “Blessed are the rich”! It comes from the early Calvinist heresy “God shows His favor by blessing people with wealth and happy lives, and His anger at sin with suffering and poverty”. I think that the attitude carries over to the Mormon church… they certainly act like it (plus they share the tendency to lie and obscure the truth with the “Good Christians”). That’s why the big-name preachers are so rapaciously greedy and always trying to make the poor give more to them. They see the poor as being sinners punished by God, and that their wealth really belongs to the “blessed rich” – themselves.
That’s where the destruction of working people and the elimination of their jobs comes from too. GREED, combined with the idea that whatever is ours should be theirs because obviously “God has blessed them”.

What it all boils down to is that Chris Christie cannot serve his state the way he was elected to, and still align himself with the soulless creeps who are trying their level best to turn this country into a full-fledged plutocracy. This man has seen the devastation and death that Hurricane Sandy brought to his state, up close and personal. It’s been equally obvious that this has affected him deeply. I hope he will do the right thing for the good folks of New Jersey, and set up ObamaCare. Are you all forgetting that Obama has had George Soros and the unions wealth backing him through both election cycles? Obama hangs out with the wealthiest people in the world! Oprah, Jay Z, Clooney, Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are probably on his speed dial! Your wealth envy is sad, but your hypocrisy is even sadder. You guys only tolerate wealthy people when they are liberals, you only embrace women if they are liberal. You cast insults at women and minorities for being conservative and say we are brainwashed or just plain ignorant. You guys are ok with big businesses coming out in support of Obama, but if a company like Chick Filet feels differently you guys try to run them out of business. Celebrities and businesses are afraid to come out as republicans because their careers will be snuffed out. For being the party of tolerance of love, I never see much of that coming from your side.

Above all, what the unions did was help get workers out on the street knocking on doors and talking to potential voters, helping with voter registration and finally with GOTV on election day. American workers knew which political party was worth the effort and, guess what, it was not the GOP. The really big money went to the GOP, so let’s not bother with the false equivalencies.
I was one of the millions of small donors to President Obama’s campaign and campaigns of the Democratic Senate and House candidates. We let the super rich hide their money …..and pay no taxes…,any corporation don’t pay taxes…Apple has close to 50 billion sitting off shore. I got sick in Taiwan rush to the hospital they took care of me. In Kuwait the country we liberated all health care is free and your kid can go to any college they want pay for. We have taken care of to many other countries .. Start taking care of our own. We cannot police the world . Not all these people want democracy. They love their tribal way…stay out of their business..lets take care of home for awhile…from a soldier..

Christie will be reelected in his next campaign. He knew exactly what to do to get the Garden State in order. His genuine caring for all of NJ cannot be BOUGHT! He is his own man. TheKoch brothers are leeches on a dead carcass……..
