The Latest House Republican Benghazi-gasm is So Irrelevant that It’s On C-SPAN 3
The House Oversight and Governmental Affairs Committee is holding a Benghazi hearing that is so irrelevant that it is on C-SPAN 3, and C-SPAN will only offer highlights later.
House Republicans are trying again to turn Benghazi into a major scandal, but outside of right wing media, no one is buying the Republican cries of wolf. House Republicans had their big chance to turn Benghazi into a major scandal when Sec. of State Clinton testified in January, but Clinton ate them alive, as the nation watched and asked themselves, “Why are Republicans screaming about Benghazi?”
House Republicans are not easily deterred by failure, so they are back today claiming, “mismanagement and political coverup.” Recently when asked for evidence of this coverup, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) couldn’t provide any, but this hasn’t stop them from wasting time and taxpayer money investigating a scandal that only exists in their own imaginations.
The bigger problem for the House Republican scandalmongers are boxed in on Benghazi. Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) told MSNBC today, “We need to know were these people culpable or not. If they were, why are they still on the payroll? Other than that, I’ve been able to read all the cables. I’ve seen the films. I feel like I know what happened in Benghazi. I’m fairly satisfied.”
Media attention of their attempts to drum up a scandal has dwindled to the point that C-SPAN’s only live coverage is offered on C-SPAN 3, and C-SPAN itself will only be offering highlights of the hearing later tonight.
It is the scandal that never was, but House Republicans talk about Benghazi in almost sexual terms. For them Benghazi is a cry of Obama conspiracy climax. They appear seductively aroused by blaming President Obama for the deaths of four Americans. Their perversion runs so deep that they keep holding a hearing in search of their Benghazi money shot.
This concept may strike you as sick and twisted, because it is.
A group of Republican Reps. led by Issa and Chaffetz are getting their political rocks off with a warped fantasy of presidential cover up.
The Senate doesn’t care. The media doesn’t care. The American people don’t care, but House Republicans are Benghazi-gasming all over themselves today. It is a good thing that nobody else is watching.

The true shame in the Far Right’s obsession with this tragedy is the effect on the families of the victims. This entire process is being instrumented as a ruse to attempt to shame Hillary Clinton and our President. Our Republican Congressmen spend their days trying to Bamboozle Obama instead of doing what they are paid for by representing their constituents. See what kind of job they’ve done applying the blackface to the POTUS at dregstudiosart.blogspot.c... Their hands are sticking to this tar baby as the public is becoming increasing impatient with the nonsense and waste of taxpayer money.

Not impatient enough apparently. The idiots in South Carolina just elected Mark Sanford, the lying, cheating, ethically challenged ex-governor, to the House.
In Republican circles, spending taxpayer money on a wild goose chase is a waste of neither time nor money when the goose is named Obama or Clinton.

I just got home from the gym and of course Fox news was glued to it. You could almost see the anchors leaning over their desks with their tongues down on the floor waiting.
I really wish the Democrats had the balls to take back the house and start investigating George W. Bush and his Embassy attacks. I wish they could pick him apart enough to send him to prison forever. At least tie him up in his library bathroom.
The people in our Congress are enemy combatants and they are wasting our money and our time

Wish the DEMS had the balls? Where are the VOTERS? Data show too many people who turned out for Obama in 2008 sat it out and did not vote ushering these jerks in. We turned a signficant number out in 2012, but unless and until VOTING and being involved in electoral politics is given as much weight as marching in front of cameras for a day or tow, whining on blogs, or holding stoner ‘discussions’ with equally stoned friends, we will NOT get the House back at all.
Time for progressives, liberals, and mainline Dems to do one thing well – VOTE. Hate the candidate? So what? It’s the HOUSE that matters, not your individual circumstance. Growing up in a democracy is too easy – we all need backbone and a dedication to the basics even if we don’t get our way every time.

Gregory Hicks’ testimony strikes me as being a bit of cover-your-ass.
It says right in the report November 1, 2012 (before the election) on THE BLAZE of all places that Rep. Jason Chaffetz reported that the first thing Hicks did the night of September 11, 2012 was ignore Ambassador Stevens’ calls for help.

There’s your problem, right there: “On Glenn Beck’s The Blaze” (of all places) and “Rep. Jason Chaffetz reported”
“Rep. Jason Chaffetz reported that the first thing Hicks did the night of September 11, 2012 was ignore Ambassador Stevens’ calls for help.”
I’ll be taking that with a grain of salt, thankyouverymuch.
This coming from Glenn Beck, the man who was just up on Capitol Hill to “testify” that the Bostom bombing was a government cover-up (along with Alex Jones of all people).
We’ll thank you not to post links to Glenn Beck’s hallucinations. We don’t consider conspiracy theorists reliable news sources.

The Republicans have no intentions of making a meaningful jobs bill, while Obama is president. So to fill their time they promote conspiracy theories, they believe need to be investigated, continue their war on women and austerity policies.
Our country suffers while they play their political games, and becomes further divided, along many lines.

This is one of the reasons the sequester and why there may be no grand bargain on the debt deal because these Republicans are wasting time holding hearings about something that happened in another country. The more time spent having hearings about Libya the less time there will be to real a grand bargain on the debt deal or reach something to end the sequester. I don’t understand in the first place the the Grand United States of America would have an embassy in a country where people do not take vacations in. An embassy is suppose to be in countries or places where there are a lot of American tourists. I don’t think there are American tourists in Libya. I don’t think anyone is going to use their life savings to go on a trip to Libya. I hate these Republicans with a passion. These Republicans have committed so many bad deeds that I am very tempted to not forgive them. You want to talk about cover ups I think Bush did a major coverup with the Iraq War.

Obama administration officials are finally letting the attorney for a Benghazi whistle-blower get a security clearance — but the clearance is at such a low level that it will probably slow the congressional probe of how the administration handled last year’s terrorist attack on the embassy in Benghazi, Libya.
Victoria Toensing represents an unnamed government official who can help explain the reaction of top government officials to the jihadi attack on the U.S diplomatic site in Benghazi and killed four Americans last Sept. 11.
At least three officials will testify today at a House hearing about the scandal, and are expected to say top officials at the Department of State took actions to minimize political damage to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. In the days after the attack, officials claimed the attack had resulted from a spontaneous demonstration against an anti-Muslim film. That story was quickly refuted, …
Shiva
May. 8th, 2013 at 8:32 pm
Refuted by Americans, not by Libyan’s. The building attacked was a safe house and not an embassy. They had no way of knowing Stevens would be there. Its just as possible they went there and attacked beucase of the rioting around the ME
charlie
May. 8th, 2013 at 10:55 pm
Actually, Libya President Mohamed Yousef El-Magariaf unequivocally refuted the story as well.
“The way these perpetrators acted and moved — I think we, and they’re choosing the specific date for this so-called demonstration, I think we have no, this leaves us with no doubt that this was pre-planned, determined,” Magariaf said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”
Libyans pointed fingers at Ansar al-Sharia.

Also it was reported that the U.S. mission informed Libyan authorities in advance of Stevens upcoming visit and requested additional police support and protection during his stay. The Libyans failed to provide that support and speculation still exists that the attackers were tipped off about Stevens visit by some members of the “police” force itself. Benghazi’s head of police was fired by the government in Tripoli one week after the consulate attack.

I just thought that today was the big day,the day we were finally going to learn something, get to the bottom of this vast conspiracy.I wish I could have learn something but a funny thing happen. The republican led by Chairman Issa denied any testimony from the military which could have shed some light on what was or wasnt the response.I wonder why?I mean we do want the truth dont we?
I did learn they are still mad at Susan Rice for repeating the talking points that were given to her by the intelligence community.I learn that Hicks was pissed because according to him he was demoted because we spoke out of turn.I did learn the reason why no names were reported in the intelligence was because they didnt want to give up sources and methods for the reason they might get leaked. I wonder what gave them that idea.So tell me what did you learn

In all honesty, I would say that I heard a very riveting story by Hicks. He seems like a good man who has been devastated by the whole matter. Nordstrom too. I think you could see how it was very hard for them to revisit what happened. Thompson looked more angry about it all.
It looks like their testimony will lead to more hearings to figure out who changed the talking points that Susan Rice was given and they will probably try to get more info on the military angle too.

Whether pre-planned or spontaneous, so what?
Here’s the problem: you don’t get to make a federal case out of Benghazi when your party was responsible for refusing to fund security:
“Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) said today that he voted to cut funding for U.S. embassy security amid political attacks from Republicans that the Obama administration did not do enough to secure the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya that was attacked last month.”

Toensing’s client will not be able to testify at public or closed-door hearings because he or she has not been able to prepare classified testimony with the aid of a lawyer, Toensing told The Daily Caller.
Toensing, who previously held top-level security clearances while working as a Deputy Attorney General at the Justice Department’s anti-terrorism unit, has asked government officials to update her past clearances to let her work with her client.
Officials have now provided a 42-page security clearance form, which Toensing filled out and returned, … But the form is only for a basic security clearance, not a “top secret” clearance, she said.
That’s “not sufficient,” she said.
Toensing said she’s now pushing officials to get the higher clearance to ensure that her client is prepared to explain fully what happened to legislators during top-secret hearings.
