Rush Limbaugh Attacks Michelle Obama For Eating Ribs
Despite all the problems that we have in our world today, Rush Limbaugh used his radio show to attack First Lady Michelle Obama for eating ribs while on a ski trip, “She is a hypocrite. Leaders are supposed to be leaders. If we’re supposed to go out and eat nothing — if we’re supposed to eat roots, and berries and tree bark and so show us how. And if it’s supposed to make us fit, if it’s supposed to make us healthier, show us how.”
Here is the audio from Media Matters:
Limbaugh said, “I’m sure you’re aware that nutritionist-at-large Michelle Obama is urging, demanding, advocating, requiring what everybody can and can’t eat. She is demanding that everybody basically eat cardboard and tofu. No calories, no fat, no nothing — gotta stop obesity. Except as in the case of all leftists, that’s true for you, but not for them.”
He continued, and exposed that gasp, Michelle Obama ate some ribs last weekend, “Michelle My Belle, minus the husband, took the kids out to Vail on a ski vacation, and they were spotted eating and they were feasting on ribs, ribs that were 1,575 calories per serving with 141 grams of fat per serving. Now I’m sure some of you members of the new castrati: “This is typical of what you do Mr. Limbaugh, you take an isolated, once in a lifetime experience, and try to say that she’s a hypocrite.” She is a hypocrite. Leaders are supposed to be leaders. If we’re supposed to go out and eat nothing — if we’re supposed to eat roots, and berries and tree bark and so show us how. And if it’s supposed to make us fit, if it’s supposed to make us healthier, show us how.”
Limbaugh followed this by calling Michelle Obama a hypocrite, “The problem is — and dare I say this — it doesn’t look like Michelle Obama follows her own nutritionary, dietary advice. And then we hear that she’s out eating ribs at 1,500 calories a serving with 141 grams of fat per serving, yeah it does — what do you mean, what do I mean?”
Later he concluded his attack with, “Haven’t seen any evidence here if that advice is being followed that it works, that’s all. It’s just, look it folks, leaders lead. They can sit up there, they demand we do this and demand we do this and demand we do that, but show us. Poor kids are living in food deserts, parents are unemployed, kids got no place to go other than the mall, hang around for scraps at the Orange Julius place, maybe get some papaya juice out there, and then they hear about Michelle My Belle and the kids 1,500 calories per rib serving — 141 grams of fat, I’m just saying. Mom and dad unemployed, kids in the food court hoping for some drips of papaya juice and there they are eating ribs, skiing in Vail.”
Michelle Obama’s obesity campaign is about child, not adult obesity, so the right wing talking point that the First Lady is telling Americans what to eat is a total lie. Children should be told what to eat by their parents. What Mrs. Obama is trying to do is educate parents so that they can make better food choices for their children. This is about creating better educated food consumers, which is something that America desperately needs.
As the First Lady pointed out in a recent interview with CBS News the message of the campaign is balance, not eating roots, berries, and tree bark as Limbaugh claimed. According to CBS, “The first lady, who celebrates the first anniversary of her “Let’s Move!” campaign on Wednesday, said she tells daughters Malia and Sasha that if they eat vegetables at every meal they’ll “still be OK” when they’re downing pizza and ice cream with friends on the weekend.”
Her argument is that fast food should not become an everyday meal for kids, “The problem is when that fun stuff becomes the habit. And I think that’s what’s happened in our culture. Fast food has become the everyday meal.” According to the First Lady, it’s okay to have ribs as long as you balance it out with sensible eating. Michele Obama would be a hypocrite is she was allowing her daughters to eat fast food daily, but since that isn’t the truth, the right has to blow up every time that she eats a French fry so that it appears to be an act of high hypocrisy.
Please remind me. When did the idea that our 10 year old children shouldn’t be obese and diabetic become a controversial issue in the United States? Are we so locked into being a fast food culture that McDonalds must defended against the idea that children should eat more fruits and vegetables? 1 in 8 Americans go hungry every day. To me, this is more important than the fact that Michelle Obama ate a couple of ribs last weekend.
With his little rant today, Rush Limbaugh illustrated just how hopelessly detached from reality conservative America has become.

Wayaaalll, poor Rush. He doesn’t get that there is a difference between eating the occasional Pleistocene food when you’re out in Pleistocene weather doing Pleistocene things, and stuffing yourself with it all the time when the most strenuous thing you’re doing is sitting in a climate conditioned studio ejaculating in time to your own hate rants. I can only give him our local recipe for pulled pork: Heat grill red- hot. Coat your but with Tabasco sauce. Park it on grill. Then stick two forks in it and start shredding…

I’m sure that if we know that Rush was being stupid he will counter with the was just using absurdity to point out an absurd situation as usual.
a complete moron, Rush says he doesn’t know if that advice being followed is working. Worse, he isn’t smart enough to understand that it will take many years for something like this to show true results. In the meantime he is fully in support of diabetic children and children with heart problems as he is against healthcare. Anyone who is against healthcare should be out there advertising for people to eat good diets so they don’t need healthcare. But Rush really isn’t that smart

Rush “to judgement” Limbaugh needs to do a better job of regulating the flow into and out of his “pie hole”. Whenever he opens his mouth, either mass quantities of apple pie are crammed in, or mass quantities of cow pie spew out.
This is what happens when you see the world through sh*t-colored glasses, an affliction facing Rush since he spends so much time with his head up his ass.

Of all the people to criticize anyone for what they eat, Limbaugh is the last person who should be doing it. When I see him in the flesh, I’m always reminded of a hog on steroids. He not only looks like he never missed a meal in his life, but also like he’s had too many. Apparently, he deliberately chose not to understand what the First Lady says, which is that moderation is the key and that fast foods should not be the main staple of one’s diet.

I thought that the right did not consider Michelle to be any kind of leader, that she’s just the wife of the President. Now, suddenly, she is someone to be emulated on a daily basis? Now they are the food police? And may I just say, Rush, you could do with a few less fatty meals yourself, you slob.
Evidently the President has done nothing in the past three days worthy of Rush’s ire. Imagine that.

Isn’t it funny how inadverdantly what FLOTUS is doing has the power to help Rush live longer and be healthy and, just in an effort simply to refute her, he is killing himself with Oxy Rings with extra mayonaise? That, my friends is irony.
PS. It’s clear to anyone who was ever in 3rd grade, he like-likes her. Duh! And when he saw her eating those ribs (his two loves!) both dripping in bbq sauce, well, I imagine it just drove him mad. He’s got the fever, oh yes. Cue Spike Lee.

Uh, has anyone noticed his figure of 1500 calories for ribs is ridiculous? This is a calorie estimate for a full rack of ribs, or a ridiculously large half rack smothered in sauce. And he’s claiming this is what she was eating? Was she sharing with her family? Did she eat the whole thing or did she take some home? Did she eat the full meal, or did Rush just look up the calorie count and presume that the label = what she ate?
Because what Rush is claiming… does not make sense. Michelle is very slim and fit, 1500 calories in one meal represents, conservatively, 80% of a woman’s daily intake of calories. You don’t do that in one sitting. I call BS on the guy we all know HAS eaten too many ribs in his time.

I love that you lefties don’t understand satire… and it gives me a warm feeling that Rush tweaks you with his satire enough for you to take it oh so seriously and that it pushes you into a frenzy of personal attacks.
If you understand that your reaction is exactly what Rush was attempting to incite, you would realize that you’ve been the unwitting victim of a con.

Rush wouldn’t know satire if it were dipped in chocolate and shoved in a pharm bottle. You, my friend, are the one who has been duped. Keep peddling that rhetoric, let me know how that works out for you. The Daily Show is satire. Rush blathering about a black woman eating ribs is racism and perhaps a tad amorous obsession.
Why is it that your ilk always confuse LYING with satire? Surely they covered satire before 6th grade. When Rush says that ANY one is DEMANDING you do this or that, that is lies, not satire. For criminy’s sake get an education, please.

Yes. You’re right. Satire is only valid, and only funny when it comes from the Daily Show or SNL or some other “approved” source. And of course, Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and the entire cast of SNL never, ever depict anything but the strictest reality.
So, I apologize. You are so correct. Stating facts and then commenting on an apparent irony is racist…
I do apologize if I offended, but you should really write down your rulebook of double standards on who it is ok to hate and who it is not. It’s so confusing, and I so do not want to be considered inapropriate.
Is there perhaps a government administration that exists where I could pre-check my opinions to see if they are kohser before I express them? Or maybe I could just call you?

But the childrens servings are also over sized and parents make sure the kids clean their plates. Do you know that much of the processed food you buy in a grocery is heavily salted that contributes to obesity? Do you care? The reason for the uproar and Rush’s comments are The Child Nutrition Bill sponsored by Michelle O. working its way through Congress. It is designed to force better eating habits on our kids by taking vending machines, pizza, and Mickey D’s out of schools and making school lunches lower fat with more vegetables. Another consequence of the bill is to ban bake sales at schools, a traditional fund raising method for school clubs and activities.
The first lady’s heavy-handed approach to our kid’s nutrition obligates her to practice good eating habits herself. Instead, we find out she eats a lot of cheeseburgers and fries, ice cream on Martha’s Vineyard, all-you-can-eat lobster, $100 a pound Kobe beef, a super-fatty Super Bowl snack menu, and now 1,500 calorie ribs while on yet another vacation in Vail. If the hypocrisy is not obvious, it should be. Instead of attacking a talk show host for pointing it out, you should be questioning Michelle O’s sincerity.

I’m sorry Shiva, it doesn’t matter what her intentions are. You are missing the point. The government, let alone the first lady, has no right to tell me what I can and can’t feed my children. I don’t think you can get through to these people. There is absolutely an epidemic of child obesity in America. We need ideas and solutions on how to combat this. they remind me of the people that when told that smoking can kill you the first thing they say is you wont take my cigarettes unless it’s over my cold dead body. And it usually is.
this isn’t a matter of Michelle Obama telling someone they have to do something. they always have the choice not to listen to anyone when they have obese children. Personally I think it’s horrifying to see some of the kids I see in grocery stores and in the malls. kids that are nine years old and so that they can hardly waddle. I used to have a woman I worked with whose daughter said her children hot dogs and packaged mac & cheese. She refused to cook. If you set aside the fact that the hot dogs are full of nitrates and a carcinogen risk, she adamantly refused to feed her kids decently. It was her business and nobody else’s.
I see a contradiction here. We have a bunch of fake conservatives along with Rush Limbaugh who is not a conservative but an entertainer who claim that no one can tell them how to feed their kids. It’s no one’s business but their own. But they sure do want to tell us if we can have an abortion or not. It’s okay to kill your kids after they’re born

There is no general consensus to aim for in the world today. The election of Barack Obama…the FAKE ASS HYPE that Americans displayed…the 5 MINUTES of HOPE we claimed to believe in…The WE HAVE OVERCOME gnat of a second that flitted by…. was nothing more than a replica of our substance…Nothing this President will ever say or do, nor his wife, will EVER go without being attacked. Deep down in the fiber of this country, a great many of the people of this country are NOT and will NEVER be OK with a black president. Period! Whether any of us want to say it out LOUD or not…The truth shows itself. When any minimally THINKING human being can find fault in ANYONE making the suggestion that we do something healthy, if you can honestly say you find fault with that, you’re a fucking idiot! What could possibly be wrong with someone offering you health? If this was Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian, who would have a problem? No, it’s the boogey woman…Michele Obama! Oooo! I’m scared! How dare she???…. Fucking IDIOT!! … And to listen to that fat, lazy, wheezin, bald headed, no working dick, pill popping, hate filled limbaugh! Or that 3rd grade educated, psycho babble speak, ½ term, pretend governer palin…THE EPITOME OF IDIOTS!
We have all these fat assed kids, walking around with two stomachs, 10 yrs old and size 13 shoe, shooting insulin twice a day….Do you think they might benefit from some health advice? …ESPECIALLY from the First Lady! Wow! NO, the general consensus is “EeeK..the government is trying to tell me what to do!!!”

Limbaugh is fond of attaching the prefix “nanny” to programs that he disagrees with, but here he is, jowls aquiver – figuratively speaking – leaning over Michelle Obama’s shoulder and broadcasting the number of calories on her plate. (Note that his number is some 900 calories more than the reasturant owner give for that serving.) The healthy eating and exercising habits that she is promoting are reasonable and do-able, with room for occasional 5 oz serving of short ribs – especially on a ski vacation!
