Rush Limbaugh Discusses Barack and Michelle Obama’s Slave Blood
By: Guest ContributorJul. 2nd, 2010more from Guest Contributor
On his radio show today, Rush Limbaugh was speculating as to why First Lady Michelle Obama did not attend Sen. Robert Byrd’s funeral, and his speculation focused on Michelle Obama’s “pure slave blood,” and President Obama’s “lack of pure slave blood.” Limbaugh managed to not only take a shot at the deceased Byrd, but he also leveled a racial slur at the Obamas.
Here is the audio courtesy of Media Matters:
Limbaugh said, “I don’t know why Michele my belle is not there, but as has been said by several black civil rights leaders, Obama does not have authentic slave blood, but Michele does. We can only speculate. Maybe she is at a skybox at a baseball or football game, who knows?”
Limbaugh was trying to take a shot at another deceased Democrat, because picking on the dead is somewhat of Rush specialty, but the difference between Robert Byrd and Rush Limbaugh is that Byrd eventually abandoned the politics of hate, and worked hard as a champion of equality. In 2005 Byrd said of his association with the KKK in the 1940s, “It has emerged throughout my life to haunt and embarrass me and has taught me in a very graphic way what one major mistake can do to one’s life, career, and reputation.”
Sen. Byrd lived the rest of his life embarrassed and shamed by the racism in his past, whereas people like Rush Limbaugh embrace the racism in order to politically divide and as a path to greater financial riches. There was no reason for Limbaugh to talk about slave blood, when discussing the Obamas and the funeral of Robert Byrd. His sole purpose in doing so was to remind his listeners of the right wing myth that Democrats are more racist than Republicans.
It was also an easy chance for Limbaugh to reinforce the idea that the African-American president and his wife are not white, and thus inferior to himself and his white listenership. Limbaugh’s speculation combined the ugliness of hate politics with racism. When radio hosts start speculating about slave blood they are playing with a dangerous Molotov cocktail, or our nation’s ugly underbelly. Which each mention of slave blood and race, Limbaugh, who is the de facto leader of the GOP is reaffirming the notion of the terrified white racist Republican.

I am so offended by so much of what he said here that I don’t know where to start. Rush is a force of ugliness and while I know he doesn’t believe half of what he says, the fact that he’s willing to debase himself and stir up racial tension and hatred for the money makes him an even worse person than your average ignorant racist.

I am so disgusted by this “radio personality”…when is enough enough for this vile excuse for a human being?

I agree but what scares me about people like him and Beck are the weakminded ones like the one in Oakland the other day who got in a rage over liberals and was in the shootout with police. The indication from his mother was he listened to right-wing radio. Most people won’t act but it just takes one.

I am afraid that I must maintain that this is a full scale attack by the Republican Party. Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Michael Savage, the sickness known as Palin, and the leadership of the Republican Party as far as I’m concerned Harper taking in a concerted attack thinking it will get them votes in the midterms.
But I have to totally agree with you Sarah. At first I did not believe this was racial, just normal Republican dirty work afoot. But Rush has taken this deeply into the racial regions and Sarah Palin is following them right in. in my mind this is the dirtiest filthiest time in American politics. There is no longer a single Republican in office that I have any ounce of respect for. For those who are not partaking in the lunacy verbally, they are partaking in a silently by not responding to it.
The Republicans are doing everything they can to bring this government to a halt. By doing so they think they are going to get votes. I hope they understand that they are doing little more than giving fodder to the people who voted Obama in such big numbers. I don’t know who’s going to win the next election but I can practically guarantee you it’s not going to be a Republican.
Rush Limbaugh has seen to that with his rhetoric. I’m writing my two Republican congressman today. Tennessee is supposed to be a Christian state. We’re in the middle of the Bible Belt. If they will not stand up and tell Rush Limbaugh that it’s time to muzzle himself and as far as I’m concerned they can take their Christianity and shove it.

The republicans are doing it for far more than votes. They are extortionists, bringing American government to a screeching halt until voters come to heel and put them in office again. What’s frightening is that it just may work.

The hatred and bigotry that Limbaugh proudly shows was nothing new. What was new is the degree to which he felt comfortable voicing them. After all, this is the same man that projects his own racism by claiming President Obama hates white people. There are others like the late Senator Byrd who were raised to be racists, but rose above their bigotry to become exemplary human beings. Limbaugh not only embraces his bigotry, but also induces others to do the same.
He, Beck, Palin, Hannity, Coulter, Malkin, and others are indicative of a serious pathology among some in this country. They appeal to the absolutely lowest common denominator in America, and are proud of doing so. The most disturbing aspect of it all is that they are extremely well paid for perpetuating the ugliness.

Jason its great! Spammer trolls get voted down so we don’t have to read their bs.
The only thing I don’t like is when you reply, and reply everything gets teeny weeny, lol :)
But otherwise awesome!
As for Limpballs, he is a POS with a mouth. How a troll gets a radio show shows just how desperate the right it….scraping the bottom of the barrel. Sometimes I hear what he says and its like the onion…I can’t believe anyone is stupid enough to take him seriously same with Beck….And Sarah is just a LIAR!

The thing about Palin that just blows me away is that UNIVERSITIES are paying her big bucks to come and spread her ignorance! WTF??? Further, I have come to believe they WANT Sarah in all her unprepared, ignorant glory, and she always DELIVERS! That is why she is never prepared, she doesn’t have to be(!) and in fact, it would be detrimental to her income to be anything other than stupid old Sarah! UNBELIEVEABLE!

Palin, is a Liar! Wanted to clarify that. Today is “happy quitters day” Yes one yr ago Sarah Palin with her Servants heart quit on the SOA! Not that she was doing a great job but they VOTED her in and the “first frontier” people don’t like quitters! She quit to go make millions and have men swoon at her feet in $700+ NM Red 5″ stilettos!
What did you think of her quitting John, being from Wasilla and all?
It was a rotten thing to do for sure!

This is all part of riling up the teapartiers to motivate them to vote in November and take the Republican party further right. Rush and Fox News are controlling the dialogue and the MSM is following right along. This is a must read:

For what it’s worth, John, I click to read your comments. I’m more interested in debating ideas than reading what I agree with. The system is set up to keep trolls and spammers from shutting down the conversation and sidelining the discussion. I can understand why it is here, wish people used it a bit more for blocking trolls and spam, a bit less for simply shushing opposing voices.

I can see why you wouldn’t agree with Olberman/Garafolo, but not sure how those words are racism. Just because it mentions race? And I can see how Reid’s comments about the electability of Obama can be construed as racist, though there was a large outcry over those comments and he was profoundly criticized for them. I think the point about the Limbaugh comments is that he broadcasts them to people who enjoy them, often agree with them, and he is not criticized for them in most of the mainstream press. Imagine if McCain or Palin or Brian Williams or Barney Frank had made such comments, what a ruckus and an outcry there would be. The point of this article is that Rush’s listeners are unconcerned by such rhetoric and we have come to expect such racism from him so much that it seldom even warrants comment. Reid’s comments were about making calculation about electability based on his notions of the United States’ capacity for acceptance. I’m proud that he was wrong in his anxieties. Rush’s comments were designed to invoke scorn and racist judgment based on racism, and i am embarrassed that any American listened to the broadcast without turning it off at that point.

I suppose he is contributing if you like to hear neiner neiner neiner. If he wanted to contribute he would probably try to defend Rush Limbaugh. Basically what I’m getting from him is that he agrees that Limbaugh is a racist. But he just wants to point out that there are liberal racists as well.
Racist is a word that should be used for the true racist that we have in this country. A few words or a few remarks does not make a person a racist. Someone who makes her living being a racist probably is a racist.
many people understood what Harry Reid was saying when he made his comment about not having a Negro dialect. But we do have a population of very lowbrow people who look at the words without understanding what the meaning of the sentences are.

Because it is convenient for them to ignore context, as it allows them to point the fingers at everyone else and accuse them of doing what they themselves are guilty of.
Great comment, Shiva!
