Married Ohio Family Values Republican Rep. Gets Busted With A Stripper
more from Hrafnkell Haraldsson
Most Americans will be familiar with Janet Porter’s “Heartbeat Bill,” an anti-Women’s Reproductive Rights law out of Ohio, which criminalizes abortion and which was backed by Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann, and passed the Ohio State House on June 28, 2011. The law prohibits abortion after only six weeks. Many women don’t even know they’re pregnant at this point, as Democrats pointed out.
Ohio is staunchly anti-women at the moment; the state budget, approved June 28, 2011 by the Senate, bars state hospitals from performing abortions.
One of the heartbeat bill’s staunch advocates is Ohio Rep. Robert Mecklenborg, a Catholic from Cincinnati who represents western Hamilton County. Mecklenborg loved the bill so much he was one of its nearly 50 co-sponsors. In fact, he led the fight to get it passed. He is all about family you see: he is a married father of three.
He gets an “A” from the NRA, a 100% from OhioBusinessVotes.org, and is a staunch supporter of the Ohio Chamber of Commerce, also earning him a 100%. Rep. Mecklenborg also gets an “A” in hypocrisy and an “F” in morality and ethics.
He gave an impassioned speech on behalf of the war on women last Tuesday. Two days later, as 10TV.com reports, his fellow legislators found out this moral paragon was facing “one count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.” Of an arrest made two months before. But that’s not all.
You see, Rep. Mecklenborg was driving through Dearborn County, Indiana in the very early hours of the morning of April 23 in a car with temporary Kentucky plates when an Indiana state trooper pulled him over. The trooper observed that the car had a burned-out headlight, the reason for stopping this champion of Republican morality. In his report the officer said that he suspected Mecklenborg was intoxicated because he smelled alcohol and the representative had “glossy, bloodshot eyes.”
I said that wasn’t all: Mecklenborg refused a chemical test but he failed three field sobriety tests. He was administered a blood test and charged with drunken driving. This paragon of morality tested positive for Viagra, and not, apparently for the benefit of his wife. Because he wasn’t alone in the car and his companion was not his wife.
His passenger was a 26-year-old woman, Tiona Roberts, a local stripper who works nearby in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. And then there is the little matter of Viagra in his system. I’m sure it must improve night-vision, or some such. It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with the young woman sitting with the intoxicated 59-year-old paragon of morality in the wee hours of the morning, far away from his wife and children.
Mecklenborg took a strict legalistic line in his approach to the issue of Women’s Reproductive Rights. He apparently feels the state has the right to meddle in the private lives of its citizens:
“We have late term abortion bills, partial birth abortion bills, parental involvement bills and informed consent bills. We also have freedom of conscience bills, abortion is manslaughter bills and fetal homicide bills right here in Ohio. All that happens from the time of conception.”
It’s truly amazing how forgiving Republicans are when it’s one of their own who has crossed the line. Gov. John Kasich said in Mecklenborg’s defense, “We have to stop pounding people when they make mistakes.”
But it’s okay to pound women, right Governor Kasich?
For his part, Mecklenborg somehow manages to claim that what happened is a private matter, unlike what takes place in the bedrooms of couples across America, which is a state matter.
This is what he had to say for himself, speaking to WLWT-TV in Cincinnati on Thursday:
“Being human, I have made a mistake and this has caused great hurt to my family, and I’m deeply sorry for that. I’ve served tirelessly and well my constituents and I want to apologize to them as well. While the discovery process in this case goes on, I am entitled to the same presumption of innocence as any other citizen.”
Right, the same way women are treated when they have a miscarrage and are suspected or accused of murdering the fetus – that kind of presumption of innocence.
As for the stripper, Mecklenborg’s excuse was, “I understand the interest in the DUI part, I guess, but the rest is a personal matter.”
Like Governor Kasich, Mecklenborg believes it’s perfectly permissible to publicly shame a woman into not having an abortion, but the outcome of laxity with regards to the placement of their manly genitalia should be private.
Funny that a member of the state government believes he has more right to privacy than the average citizen.
Not to mention the irony of this family values Republican claiming he is fighting to “protect life” and being said by the arresting officer to be “endangered a person” by way of his inebriated state.
Mecklenborg, of course, who is above the law and, after all, a moral paragon, pleaded not guilty. He will have his day in court on July 26th.

Keith Olbermann pointed out on his show last night that this state representative wanted to make it harder for those without a driver’s license to vote. Since driving under the influence means one’s license gets suspended or revoked, then under his own proposal, he wouldn’t be allowed to vote. Irony can be sweet.

While he would lose his license if convicted, he would still be able to obtain a state ID and be able to vote…..

Actually, under the new law it would not be allowed. You must have a drivers license. In fact, you can’t even use your military I.D. to vote at the polls.

There’s little difference between a state-issued ID card and a driver’s license. Check your facts again.

Just because a person has character flaws that the media can punish them with, doesn’t mean a woman has a right to be able to abort a life.
Most that stand on the side of what is right will indeed have issues themselves. And even more so would they have issues themselves if they
truly believe in what is right.
So what. So what if the guy was intoxicated and messed around on his wife.
So what if he is not the perfect person people want to see when a person has a belief of what is right and cannot do it himself.
Even the creator himself could be deemed wrong for creating the idiots we see on a daily basis, but yet he is perfect.
I would suggest that one not throw stones at those that teach the right ways but yet had not obtained it themselves. Thus it does state, that few deserve to touch the hem of the garment.
Teaching right, and doing wrong may have a consequence indeed from the media attention. But what is “correct and right”, and what should be done shouldn’t pay the price.
Which person has taught or believe in what is right, has not sinned? Name one? Just one?
You will be the same.

Who are you to decide what is right and what is wrong for another person. The more someone stands on their high moral ground the more I suspect it is to cover up their own twisted life style. I’m sure if it was a democrat that did the same thing he would be the first one to step up and blast them in the media.

And if this prostitute got pregnant by Mr. Politician, do you seriously not believe that he would pay for her to shut up, leave the State, and have an abortion? Don’t be naive.

Awesome! First, she would have blackmailed him. Then, his innocent wife would wonder how the heck she contracted an STD. Then he’s pay the pregnant dancer the blackmail money he steals from the State’s coffers, (it’s easier than you may think), then he’d pay for her ABORTION.

You are just giving Republicans ideas for how to waste more tax payer money avoiding the jobs bills they promised. “We’re going to have a relentless focus on creating jobs.” – John Boehner, February 10, 2011 Yet not 1 jobs bill.
Now they will try to pass legislation that gives the government power over llamas uteri as well. When do you suppose they will allow us to regulate their sperm in the name of “small government”?

What I find interesting about this thread is that it is a perfect example of what I call “Tolerant Intolerance.” I find that more and more people in this Post- Modern society are very quick to judge Christianity as a bigoted religion. A large amount (from my observations) of these types of judgements are directed primarily on Christianity. Why is Christianity more ‘evil’ if you will, than Islam or Buddhism? In judging a religion so harshly like that, are we not worse than the person who condemns us all to hell? I have been an free-thinker for the past 12 years, and these types of attacks are just another reason why many societal problems arise. The only way we can move forward, as a society, is to accept other people for who they are. Bigotry exists in many forms, both big and small, we must work together, starting with ourselves, to make this world a better place. Just my two bits.

what you are seeing is not necessarily aimed at Christianity. The gentleman in question is a family values God fearing upstanding piece of garbage who in Congress tries to make himself out to be an ultimate Christian. It is he who it’s aimed at more than the actual religion, it is the hypocrisy of man not of the religion
On the other hand on other articles here you will see things who are aimed at Christianity, but at Christian fundamentalists. There are people here who are not believers who say things against Christianity itself probably including myself. But I have no problem with people being Christian I have a problem with the Republican representative who stands up in the halls of Congress and holds himself up to be an almighty Christian and gets busted drinking with a stripper and a pair of jeans full of Viagra.
Christian fundamentalism is something to be very afraid of. And it is not something that you just get a long with. Because it wants your life. as far as just plain Christianity goes you are absolutely right. We must accepted everyone for they who they are

Well, if Muslims were trying to impose their beliefs in me via legislation, I’d be pretty upset with them, too. Especially when it turned out that they were not the walking example of their beliefs. Christians are saying we should allow the government to intervene in our medical decisions. Do you agree with that, and if so, how do you propose we know whose beliefs to have the government impose on citizens?

Yes, I suppose that’s one way of looking at it.
Another way of looking at it is that this guy is trying to force people to live by his religious rules when he refuses to follow those rules himself. He is demanding that the state oversee what women can do with their own bodies based on his interpretation of the bible yet the bible says we should stone adulterers. When he submits to stoning then I’ll take his beliefs seriously. Until then he’s just another hypocrite making unconstitutional demands on people based on a book he refuses to follow.

Only God is allowed to cast judgement, and only God knows what His intentions are. Any human being claiming to know better than God should go ahead and reserve their place down below.
Which is more right? Sorry, but forcing your personal dogma on everyone else, whether they want it or not, believe in it or not, isn’t even close to right. It isn’t even close to legal.
This law will be overturned because it violates federal law, the Constitution, and is based on religious ideology. And Representative Mecklenborg is a hypocrite and isn’t teaching anyone anything, nor should he.

It amazes me that in a country such as ours based on freedoms and equility, people think they can impose their religious beliefs and political agenda on everyone else whether we like it or not. The statement: “I would suggest that one not throw stones at those that teach the right ways but yet had not obtained it themselves…” is extremely hypocritical and self serving. What gives you the right to determine what’s right?

So, if God could be “deemed wrong” – for anything – then that means that your religion, which used to be beautiful and all about Love, is now about Hate and Fear and Control – just like Theocracies in other countries.
God cannot be wrong. And She didn’t create idiots. Folks that twist the Lord’s message (you know, that radical Lover of All who said we are all One, Jesus?) of Love and Oneness, are no better than the rest of the fundamentalist who mix politics and religion for control over. Pro Gun DOES NOT mean anti-life. There are regulations designed to prevent this and THEY DO WORK! Bad people can ALWAYS get a gun if they are legal or illegal. But good people cannot if they are illegal. An armed citizen is a safe citizen. Do you know how many people there are that actually carry a gun with them everyday? Do you also know how many times this has SAVED a life? You just don’t hear about it because it is LEGAL. Nobody in the news tells the story about the good guy killing the bad guy. Why? The bad guy is dead, the good guy won. No drawn out court case, no Casey Anthony/OJ Simpson news…just what should happen. What do you think would have happened in Tuscon if there was an armed citizen in the crowd? Multiple people wouldn’t have been shot and killed by an insane man who managed to get a gun…they always will.
Guns don’t kill people. Bad people kill people. Bad gun education kills people.
Shiva (Moderator)

there was an armed person in Tucson that day. He almost shot one of the citizens who had been over to help Gabby.
I am a gun owner, but why don’t you tell us how many times this has saved a life?
An armed citizen does not make a safe citizen. You are just as much at risk from an armed person in a crowd as you are from a criminal with a gun.

How many children have to die because the child’s parent left a loaded registered gun around for the child to play with, or the parent while cleaning an “unloaded” gun accidently shoots a child?
By the way, an armed citizen in Tuscon admittedly almost shot an innocent person.

Actually, it’s like the movie THE UNFORGIVEN. How nervous you are and everything. The last I checked, people who had guns in home for protection either ended up losing the gun to the assailant, or accidentally shooting a family member.
The main thing people want in regards to guns is that they’re safer. Not to pry them out of your dead hands. Lighters have more safeties than guns. Sure maybe some psycho could get an illegal gun. But there are plenty of documented cases of people who shouldn’t have been allowed guns ended up getting them, legally, due to loopholes and poor background checks. This is the kind of thing we want fixed!
It doesn’t matter how many overstated quotes you can come up with, nobody ever has to defend a rope or knife as being victim to a person’s ire because it just doesn’t have the same effect when they have to run up close to attack and might cool off by then.
There are cases where guns have saved people, but is it worth it, that rare chance, when statistics in other countries with fewer guns don’t have the same “accidental” death rates like ours does? And statistics in this country show so many accidental deaths etc. due to gun carelessness and anger/crime/drugs/mental problems?
A knife’s designed to carve, cut, all sorts of things. A rope to tie things up or haul something. A gun is designed strictly to kill.
Brian
Jul. 8th, 2011 at 4:39 pm
I think that the people who are for abortions should be pro gun too since they obviously have no problems killing a human being and like it or not… even if you want to call it a “fetus” it is still a human life. Too bad these same people tend to value animal life more than their own flesh and blood. And you don’t have to be a christian or even religious to value human life. This society is pathetic when it is willing to abort an innocent human life just because having the baby might be an inconvenience to them. If it’s a threat to the mother’s life then maybe it’s okay but I would have a hard time finding any other good reason to abort a life.

Silly us, though. Well-heeled white Christian Republican males have not only total freedom to use their virilia as they please, but total power to dictate to every other group what they are allowed to do with their reproductive systems. You can bet that if some unfortunate mistress kills the rabbit, she’ll find herself waking up in a cheap motel room, depregnated, with bloody pads between her legs. I’d be happy to give you, or any man, the right to force a woman to keep her child. IF, you could take on the burden of the pregnancy, including the fetus is fed a healthy diet, they carrier has NO mental frustration–some women are horribly depressed and the fetus is greatly and negatively affected by this–all the costs–sometimes we just can’t afford to feed the other kids or ourselves with another mouth around–raise it completely, free the woman of ANY hardships she’d encounter, make sure the health of both the mother and baby were good, and also were able to free the world of all the uncared for, neglected, underfed, malnourished etc. babies/children, and were able to prevent any environmental harms a new life on this planet would bring. If so, I’d be behind you 100%. But since you don’t seem to realize we don’t live an a perfect world where you could dictate what would be ideal, we have to face some seriously rough consequences. If it were perfect, abortions would never happen, nobody would drive drunk, politicians would be honest, all babies would be healthy and ONLY planned. But in reality, NOBODY, unless seriously disturbed, is pro-abortion. It’s something I myself wish didn’t exist. But I realize there are too many consequences that determine what’s right for each person. And since you care about people, please care after they’re born too, by considering this: humans are the most destructive species on this planet and we’re overpopulating at such a rate that we will soon not be able to support everyone through our lack of resources. And then tell me which would be better, to have a woman abort a baby that she can’t have due to health, mental, societal, or economic reasons? Or for all the babies of the world to be born and die a horrible torturous death because there’s not enough food or water for them to survive?

Also, it’s not ok to call names and be disgusting, but I fail to see where it’s made here. You may have a point, and I may have also just not seen what you were referring to, but do realize the white male comment is not racist due to it, literally, categorizing a group that is hypocritical. It’s not just white or male, it’s white, male, republican. It’s a very common term anymore because they dictate certain “rules” they expect everyone else to live by, which are not possible for everyone, and they take on an attitude like they’re holier than thou with it, and actually cause harm. When in reality, this group, at least the white male category, and not necessarily the republican part of it, is the most privileged one in almost all regards. They make the most money per same job as any other group, better chance of being above the law, and have always had the upper hand in our society as the “best”.

The hypocrisy of you jackholes slays me. My wife had to sign off for my vasectomy, but all women should have the right to abort without any consent. My wife could abort our child without my consent or knowledge. In that case I am proud to be an anti-woman Ohioan.

anti woman ohioan. sounds like someone is just a little bit bitter, let’s legislate on your emotions shall we? cause boo hoo, eveyone else is a hypocrite for not feeling your pain.

Jul. 6th, 2011 at 6:29 pm
Your statement is patently false. Some private hospitals may require spousal notice, but it is not the law. Anyone in your idiotically legislated state of Ohio may get a vasectomy without their wife’s consent, and…I really hope you’ve taken advantage of that!
Sarah Jones
Jul. 6th, 2011 at 6:36 pm
Not to mention that many women cannot get an abortion without consent of their husband or male partner, and yet, those same people are not forced to pay for the child in any reliable manner or spend time rearing the child.
root
Jul. 7th, 2011 at 6:24 pm
You’re either a liar or you can’t tell the difference between the rules of a (very probably) Christian hospital franchise and those of the state. There are 0 states requiring spousal consent for vasectomy’s.
Really though, I think you’re making this whole thing up because patient confidentiality (blessedly provided by the federal government under HIPPA) makes it virtually impossible for a care provider to even tell another person about a procedure, much less require their consent. Unless of course you’re under 18 or… you’re a woman getting an abortion. Then several states require you notify others like your parents, or your (potentially abusive) husband.

Score one for me! I obviously hit a nerve, and I did it using the truth. I saw part of the debate on CSPAN in which the republican males were speaking on behalf of having these male enhancement products covered in health insurance policies!
It’s hypocritical for someone to want to abolish abortion AND prevent a woman access to birth control, say, by de-funding Planned Parenthood for instance, which would eliminate the need for an abortion in the first place. How invasive can one person be in regards to another person’s body? It boggles the mind!

Why is David Vitter still there and why has there been no outcry for his resignation from his fellow ‘clean-living, family-values’ Republicans? You can say you’re Catholic, but unless you follow the rules, all your doing is adding a label. I’m a biker but I don’t own a Harley?

Jul. 6th, 2011 at 4:37 pm
JL, you’re assumption is generally correct (that the terms are mutually exclusive) but that is certainly not the rule. I am a Christian but dont prescribe to any particular dogma. I am also quite liberal. There is nothing in the Bible which indicates I should be otherwise. IMHO the Bible actually supports the liberal agenda. Conservative ideals harbor wealth and forces everyone to fend for themselves but Jesus says “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” Additionaly where most Christians cite the Bible to support anti-abortion bills is horribly misinterpreted. The passage is “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you”. However, claiming this as evidence of life ignores that God is omnipotent. Before ANYTHING was created, God still knew you, so does that mean you existed? Of course not. In the same vein, it ignores the principle that God is in control of everything (nothing happens without His approval). If that is true (which it must be according to the very doctrine of Christianity) then God accepted and allowed the abortions to happen. Now, according to Christianity anyone who dies before accepting Jesus as their Lord and Savior will go to hell. I for one do not believe that our God who loves us is willing to condemn souls to hell before they have any possibility of accepting Christ. Just my thoughts though.

it seems so many of the people that are so hypocritical about how other people should act, as opposed to their own actions, come from well to do backgrounds, are quite fundamentalist in their christian beliefs, & are older white males. mental health studies have shown that probably 20% of all americans suffer from ill mental health all the way from the slight narcism that many have all the way to full blown psycopaths & sociopaths. minor mental health problems aren’t too serious, but i wonder if all the “legitimate” pharmaceuticals peddled on tv & by medical doctors contribute to the problem. my own belief is so many conservatives do suffer from mental illness like this guy meclenborg. notice he’s catholic, stupid looking, looks unfit both physically & mentally. yet he’s very willing to tell you how to live your life. hard for me to feel any compassion for people like him.

I watched the video on YouTube, and Mecklenborg tried his best to avoid taking the sobriety tests and being handcuffed. At the end of the video he whines more than once like a little kid, “Can you take these off?” to which the officer responds, “NO.” each time. He really didn’t think the officer had any business questioning him. He was chewing gum when he was stopped. I guess it was to mask the alcohol the officer smelled in the car. He was very uncooperative. I was glad to see a police officer willing to do his job and ignore the status of the individual. This officer deserves a raise for his professionalism. In the vidoeo Mecklenborg showed none of that false bravado that I can imagine he shows on the floor of the OH State Legislature.

representative Wiener is not being arraigned for propositioning a minor. The minor in question’s lawyer said that under no circumstances did representative Wiener sent her anything suggestive, sexual, or in any way wrong. in fact representative Wiener is not being arraigned for anything. Nice try

www.streetwisepundit.com/...
Start at the 10:45 minute mark
Then read your source. “up to one year if the BAC is above .15″ its up to one year if the BAC is over .15
“Indiana DUI laws are strict when it comes to operating with a BAC (Blood alcohol concentration) of .08 or more. A person that operates under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be subject to fines, substance abuse treatment, community service, jail, license suspension and/or made to have regular urine testing for alcohol or drug abuse.

It’s funny, whenever a republican falls short on living up to the moral standards they claim they Try to live by, all the liberals and democrats have a field day attacking him. I guess it’s better then to be a leftist democrat since they don’t have ANY standards, they can lie, cheat, steal, and if they are exposed for any of those things they are practically promoted!
So the guy was caught driving while intoxicated, yes, that is horrible and it was lucky that no one was hurt or killed, for that would have been a great tradgedy that could have been avoided! That said, an abortion is a tradgedy that takes a life and it could have been avoided as well! Please don’t come at me with the tired line of “if a woman is raped, blah, blah, blah” since abortions resulting from rape make up for less than 3% of the total abortions done annually. My little sister wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the men who gang raped my mother and my mother said that when she looked into my sister’s eyes for the first time she realized that something good can come out of evil and she was able to heal. You see it wasn’t my sisters fault that she was conceived under such circumstances and my mother was brave enough to realize that! As for the other 97% of abortions are done because people have become at best ambivalent when it comes to valuing life! Yes it’s a woman’s body, but that’s what women’s body are created(or designed for all the unbelievers because I don’t want to force religious beliefs on this point) anyways, women’s bodies are designed to carry that life within them! Saying she can do what she likes because it’s “her body” discounts the value of life of that other tiny body within her. It pits mother against child which is the most unnatural view! It’s not about the financial burdens, the 9months of pregnancy, etc, etc, which only is a false prediction of what the future holds because by saying a mother is not ready to have a child because she’s not done with her education, at a financial level one needs to be to raise a child, she’s not married are all just excuses and if those excuses are strong enough to defend aborting that tiny life, they should have adhered to that woman not getting pregnant in the first place!
So if someone makes a mistake and drives drunk and someone dies as a result, that person should be rightfully punished for that mistake. So why can’t you see that a child’s life should not be destroyed because the mother failed to take precautions to avoid the result of that life coming to be??!! I understand those that want to say that it’s a fetus, but one can’t deny it’s a human being. Look at it this way, if the “fetus” has a choice, given the 9 months, they usually will choose to be born; sometimes something goes wrong and the fetus won’t choose to be born and a miscarriage occurs. I find it sad that a woman who suffers a miscarriage is comforted and people mourn with her on the loss of that life, which is how it should be; but then some of those same mourners of that lost life are all gung-ho for another woman who chooses to end that life by abortion!
